Cancelled VRS order

Featured Replies

I placed an order for a white VRS DSG diesel with the following extras on 26th October:

Pano roof

Black pack

Heated leather

Heated screen

Spare wheel

When I ordered, I made it clear that I needed an early March deliver as the lease on my Giulietta ends on 3rd March. My dealer said it would not be a problem, and if there was any delay they would sort something out.

Whilst I was waiting for a build week, I then changed to Rallye green and started to get excited about my new car getting closer.

However, the build week went from 6 to 13, and then last week 20. That would have meant delivery end of May/June - 8 months after ordering. I went to see my dealer over the weekend, and they are not able to provide me with a loan car for the additional 3 months. I do feel for them a bit, as they have been stitched by Skoda Uk.

As a result, I have cancelled my VRS order and take delivery of a Jaguar Sportbrake 2.2 200 Luxury on 23rd March, list price was £36.5k, managed to talk them down to £31.5k, and order to delivery will be less than 6 weeks ;-)

I'm not sure what to say to that. It's a shame Skoda have been so very slow. It's a shame you weren't able to get the car you first wanted. I hope you are pleased with your new choice.

Shame, but I don't blame you.

The lead times on vRS's with options are a bit on the ridiculous side now. Demand is far outstripping supply.

Sounds like a great car you've ordered, stick around :)

A Jaguar Sportbrake 2.2 200 Luxury is fantastic, and it sounds like you got a very good deal, well done!  I too are changing soon, but immediately dismissed the vRS TDI, which was my first choice, simply because of the extended lead times, can't wait forever! I didn't fancy a 2nd hand one from the dealers, as it appears they are even more expensive than a new one.......

The Jaguar is a huge step up from an Octavia, a different league completely, though I guess you couldn't get one in Rallye green!  Enjoy your new car.

Feel sorry for you but, feel very glad someone has stated to send the message back to SUK, ie. what they are doing is unacceptable.

Enjoy the Jag

Regards

T

Sorry you have had to cancel your order.

Unfortunately at the moment as demand is so high SUK are not that bothered, the car will get built and sold with someone else saying what's all the fuss.

The jag should be awesome

Do you know that Skoda UK will have provided you with a free courtesy car once your order passed an 18 week wait? Several people on here have taken the courtesy car option after they have handed lease cars back.

I cancelled my order as well. Ordered late november and was told around 12 weeks. Dealer told me in february that my car will be built W21 and delivered W25-26.

Thats 31 weeks from order to delivery. My vRS had all extra options except panorama roof. 31 weeks was too long...

Skoda uk told me to speak to the dealer, dealer advised that they could not support me for the full 3 months as it would cost them too much. I could have spoken with SUK again but tbh I did not want to get stuck I the middle.

The VRS is a great car, but if I had known it would be an 8 month wait I would not have ordered in the first place. I was really impressed with the jag, smaller boot, not as quick, but in a totally different class. A lot more car for a little bit more money.

Whilst a bIt frustrated with Skoda, I am very happy with the way things have worked out in the end.

Good on you. I picked my vrs up within a few weeks as I poached one in the system but there's no way that i'd have waited 6 months+.  I'm sure there is no one on here who wouldn't do the same. Skoda really need to fix up as their prices are creeping closer and closer towards much higher quality and more prestigious marquees as your post proves. My dealer told me that he expected loads of cancelled orders and disgruntled customers due to delays.

I'm not so sure everyone here would have done the same. A Jaguar XF, while it is a stunning looking car, is underneath a 2008 Mondeo. I think you are giving up on quite a bit of engine refinement, efficiency and build quality. On the other hand, you are driving a Jag so my guess is, you are not going to lose a lot of sleep over it.

It's sad that skoda can't fulfil customer demands in a reasonable timeframe, but I guess it means that business is booming if demand is outstripping supply.

But sadly with demand so high neither will be bothered as they'll shift your order easily for full value.

Yeah it's ironic isn't it, they can do or say whatever they like at the dealership to get you to sign, then if you go ape and decent you don't want it they are more or less garanteed to sell the car to somebody else hat wants it quickly.

Or that they're inefficient at manufacturing and hopeless at responding to demand?

31 weeks!? that's almost 8 months.

Sweeping statement that....an X Type is based on an older gen Mondeo, XF is a ground up new car. The 2.2 diesel is also a v good engine, same as that used in the Freelander and Evoque but tuned specifically for use in the Jag.

Personally Jag XF's dont float my boat really and wouldnt be my personal choice (rather have an E class, 5 series or A6 myself - i.e something german) but a completely different class of vehicle from an Octavia; also a 38k car for a smidge over 30k isnt to be sniffed at. Probably wont hold its money that well in traditional Jag style but still alot of new premium car for 30k.

Have you ever driven a car with the 200ps 2.2 PSA engine...........it's a cracker of a lump (brilliant)

I'd do it in a heartbeat and lose zero sleep.  Octavia's are fine but there really is no contest. I did drive an XF and it was fab. For me, it was better in every aspect and refinement was in no way lacking.  Had I have done my research, given the price difference, I'd have done exactly the same as the OP.

When you cancelled did you get your initial deposit back or is this lost?

Was this post really called for?

The VRS is plenty good enough for people like me who've either bought or ordered, but personally I'm under no illusion that it's anything special. Given that, it's no surprise that some people font find it worth waiting 6 months plus for.

I find this interesting, that people are now ditching Skodas due to the truly excessive lead times, and looking to premium brands such as Jaguar and BMW.  Sadly, I'm not in that league, but I have also ditched them for this reason alone.  Perhaps it is the best product in the world, but if you can't buy one, then you're forced to look elsewhere.

You lost me?!

Who me?
