Rubbing noise from front wheels, when turning hard left or right

Featured Replies

Hi,

I dont know if this question has been asked before but does anyone else have or had a rubbing sound from front wheels when turning hard left or right? I have only just noticed this on a 3 month old octavia VRS estate.

You mean tyre rubbing against the body? Or just a bit of tyre squeal from the road surface?

Nope, nothing on mine.

Nothing on mine either but then if I ever reach 'full lock' I always back the steering off a little bit to prevent any forcing of steering components.

There was a thread at new year about a car with this noise. It was the CV joint gaiter rubbing on itself at full lock. No problem.

I noticed a similiar noise today, only seems to occur at really low speed.

Thanks for the link, taking to dealer tomorrow.

I think is the rubber of the wheel gear. At maximum turn the friction of the rubber generates the sound.

Keep us informed after taking to dealer.

Hi,

I have had these noise issues with my octavia and citigo. There is a CV joint next to the wheel and the grease has comeoff. Just take it to your dealer and he will put industrial quality lubricant.

How do you know the grease was comeoff? Did you or they find traces around the wheel or near the joint?

Or maybe he came without grease from the begining?

Something is strange.

The dealer diagnosed it. I was told the grease factory puts can come off because of the wet weather we have had (as per their technical notes) and might have to be applied then after.

Sorry but that's rubbish! The grease is contained inside the CV boot and can only come out if the boot is loose or split in which case your CV joint will be knackered in no time!  And what's "industrial quality lubricant"? All lubricants used in a car will be of the required quality, unless they're filling CV boots with KY jelly...........

I'm just trying to stick to facts, not what you've "been told".

Here is a tech report from them.

I am trying to share the information I have from skoda UK and not making my own reports.

I am sorry if you felt bad. We are here to help each other not putting people down.

Thanks

Hmmmmm... "outer CV gaitors" are these different or additional to normal grease filled CV boots ?

BTW. Neily, I thought I was on the wrong forum when you mentioned rubber boots full of KY jelly :giggle:  :giggle:

Thats not at all what you described here:

There's no mention of the grease the "factory applies" being washed off.  Basically you've taken you car in, they're found no defect and sprayed a bit of grease on to appease you, that's all.

Neil,

Have you had any such noise? Do you think there could be some kind of recall on such issues?

S

Mine is same, i thought might of been die to being lowered but had a look and tyres don't seem to rubbing or wearing and no signs on the arch liner

No because like your dealer told you there is no fault.
