You'd be the best placed to tell us the answer! If its doing the same revs in top gear then its the spacing between that's more different. If its doing far fewer revs in top then chances are they've stretched them out and up to aid economy when cruising.

If you state the RPM your Roomster is doing in top (5th) gear at 70mph a Yeti member will be able to tell you how the Yeti compares.

You'll then know if the gears are closer together or the 6th ratio is "on top" of the standard 5 speeds.

I would have thought that it'd be a combination of the two; 6th in the Yeti will be longer than 5th in the Roomster, but 5th in the Yeti will be shorter than 5th in the Roomster. Thus a wider overall range, but with each gear closer together.

It's more complicated that that. Final drive ratios and wheel/tyre sizes will also come into effect. They don't just add an extra ratio, they design the whole 'box so that the ratios and the gaps between them work together and work with the engine characteristics.

Driving a 6 gears car after having 3 cars with 5 gears, I can tell that I deliberately skip the 4th gear while accelerating where traffic allows, and shift directly from 3rd to 5th ! IMO the 4th looks to have a relative narrow range.

Also, I often find the need of down shifting from 6th to 5th while cruising around 90-100 Kmh, in order to regain brief power when needed.

The DSG box is continually changing up and down when accelerating, but you hardly notice. I suppose if you could co-ordinate your brain, your hand on the gear lever and your foot on the clutch as quickly as the DSG box does and at the correct RPM you would also hardly notice any gear changes, but sadly this will never happen. A great plus point for the automatic box.

Regarding rafi-arch's comments about skipping gears, I often go from 3rd to 5th in our Octavia which it does with no problems
