VRS Electric Windows Problem - Yes another thread!

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

So having window issues on my VRS. Ive read through the other threads and heres the methods I've tried to no sucess:

Moving fuses
Trying new fuses, drying in around the loom/door/switch

Reset method with key in door.

Niether switch works to put up the windows, drivers or passengers.

All switches light up fine.

The unlock/lock doors from the same switch operating the windows on the drivers side works fine.

Would this mean that the motor within the driver door has went?

Any help is valued!

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Yep, drivers door window motor controls the passenger one as well. Few different part numbers floating about so make sure you get the right one. Once the door panels off its a 2 minute job to change.

I find it hard to believe that both motors have gone at the same time really. I'd be looking at the drivers door lock first to make sure it's not seized or the micro switch hasn't gone. As you probably know, the windows can be operated up and down with the drivers key lock.

Hi, I had this problem around winter for the past couple of years but now resolved this problem without buying any new parts.

My windows were being temperamental sometimes working and sometimes not and I tried all sorts of stuff just like you. My windows kept steaming up on the inside and was getting really annoying so I decided to seal both rear door to prevent water getting in. Since my car dried out, (touch wood) they have been working fine for the past year so I'm thinking that's what resolved my window problem.

Here is a pic of my sealed rear doors.

I degreased the around the edge of the door and used plumbers gold to seal from the bottom half way up the doors.

AFTERNOON PEOPLE,I HAVE A SKODA FABIA 1.4 PETROL ESTATE 2005 WITH NO ELECTRIC WINDOWS,HAVING READ ALL THE TIPS ON HERE I HAVE GONE ABOUT THEM ALL. FUSES OUT FOR 1 HOURS,BATTERY DISCONNECTED,PLUGS AT BOTH A PILLARS CLEANED CONTACTS ETC.

THE WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSE FROM THE WINDOW LOCK BARREL,BOTH FRONT WINDOWS DONT WORK FROM EITHER SWITCH.

CHECKED FOR BROKEN WIRES ALL INTACT,TEST LAMP TO CHECK SWITCH OPERATES AT MOTOR PLUG IE WHEN PULL UP VOLTAGE CHANGES. EVERYTHING POINTING TO MOTOR IS THIS COMMON BUT WHY DO BOTH WINDOWS NOT WORK ?

I HAVE THOUGHT OF PUTTING A FEED DIRECT TO MOTOR BUT NOT SURE AS SOMEONE MENTION CIRCUIT BOARD |& MAY BLOW IT.

ANY HELP PEOPLE MUCH APPRECIATED

THANKS Nigel

Hi Lofty, so if the drivers door motor is nackered it wont let the passengers work?

Yes! If the drivers motor is borked, it stops the passenger one working as well. Must be some sort of feed through the control unit on the top of the motor. The actual motor itself is simple and reliable, its the little electronic box of tricks that's incorporated on it that fails.

depending on the age of your fabia, there are a few part numbers around to replace it with. I bought two second hand ones with the same part number and neither of them worked, only speaking to Skoda did I find out there are 3 versions of the same part number - depending on the software contained in it!!!

Mine was an SK1 suffix, bought it new, worked first time no messing

So took it to a mechanics and he tested it with the multimeter. Im wondering has anyone experienced broken wires somewhere causing the windows to stop?

I've had broken wires for the central locking, so I suppose it's possible it could happen with the electric windows too...

Hi Nigel, I have exactly the same problem as you.  Did you get it sorted by buying a new driver door motor?  Mike
