New Golf R

Featured Replies

One reason to buy an older Hot Hatch like a Golf GTI, you can park it 'Long Term' at an Airport etc without the same concern.

But knowing you are in with the in crowd that park cars long term at airports.

Some might be badge snobs and some snobs and some just car enthusiasts.

Buying a car for its looks or its lack of attention to thieves is an entirely different and plausible justification. Buying it to impress people (he used the word cool) is utter *******s!

Slightly off topic, but what are your favourite roads in County Durham?

I drive from the M6 - A685 through Kirkby Stephan and up to Middleton in Teesdale (fab roads) then I drive up to Stanhope (great roads) tbh around the Frosterly/Stanhope area there are loads for great stretches of road :)

'Cool!'

Who that knows anything about cool calls things cool now?  Maybe they do, i have no idea i am not cool.

I am looking forward to the cool new Mk7 Golf R thread and any rumour or information on any facelift version

or a R420 version.

Near 101 pages in this thread, there are several Briskoda members with a Golf R,

any with a Golf R Estate yet, or one on order?

That's chaps article reads like he is a Clarkson-lite wannabe.

Without the sarcastic wit

New Golf GTi Clubsport looks interesting. More power than the Leon, probably quicker then than the R.

Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

The Golf Clubsport only has more power than the that of Leon Cupra 265 ps (261hp) because it has 265ps its self,

then more with the Overboost but that is not the actual PS that they give,

so basically push to pass. It does not have the power of a Leon 290 ps

Maybe the Clubsport betters a R round a track since the Leon Cupra 280 pretty much did,

and the 280 Sub 8 Cupra does.

The over boost of 10s to 286 and 280Nm effectively means in most driving situations in real world it has same power / 30Nm more torque. It should be quicker in that it will accelerate faster than the Leon or the much heavier Golf R

Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

So it should.

& it could have been quicker and lighter all the time & if VW made it have 280 or 290 ps at the rev range the same as a Cupra not just with Overboost.

*VW are not giving it as quicker in their official figures are they?*

But VW maybe found the could not get the Co2 that originally they intended making this Euro 6 car,

so had to go with the 'Overboost' and 261 bhp / 286 bhp.

If you look at almost all of the 2.0TSI applications, they all share the same flat max torque curve of 350Nm. The power difference is generated by how far that flat torque is extended up the rev range. AFAIK the golf Clubsport is the only one to exceed 350Nm

Handling identical to the leon

Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Surely handling is where it should be the winner.  It should stop, turn, grip, like all the 'Roadtesters' are saying.

'Aero'.  they sorted it. Front Grip.

Still a fat lump though, but they tuned the handling of a fat lump family passenger car and called it a 'Clubsport'.

Maybe a 'Clubsport Light' or Clubsport Black Edition in White will follow with less in it for more cash money.

Main reason is that they all have the same gearbox which is the MQ350....................

called 350 because that is the max designated NM torque..............

Same reason the 1.8TSi in the L&K is restricted to 250NM as is fitted with the MQ250 gearbox same as my 1.4TSi which is also limited to 250NM.................

Bl00dy VW and Numbers and codes,

all confused again by the DQ200 DSG / S-Tronic that is 250 Nm

DQ200 worst ever.... I can not belive it is still sold.

They function great when they function correctly, surely VW / Skoda now use the correct fluids, clutch packs and software!

Skoda expanded the factory in 2015 to raise production of DQ200 from 1,000 to 1,500 units a day.

No real issues in the VWG using them with 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines as the DSG / S-Tronic.

So Golf R on standard wheels and tyre. GTI Clubsport on Michelin Cup Sport Rubber?

The R and the cupra 280 both use the DQ250. Many owners report no issue up to 500Nm though there is a torque limit in 1st three gears. You can map the box to increase the clamping force as well but from what I've read few do.

So, a 1.8tsi L&K would have a DQ200 7 speed dry plate box. That's one to avoid any major engine torque increases.

So, on the tighter slower corners the club sport gains, which is more real world UK roads.

Being totally stupid...I assume the R is the one in front?

Just zoomed in and saw 4 pipes so answered my own question.

Nice warm track with the Clubsport on much stickier rubber me thinks. Hence not a direct comparison for Real World UK performance imo
