New Golf R

Featured Replies

Seems I have the dreaded mk7 rear suspension rattle... VW know all about it and bought out modified shock absorbers but now on second set and still rattling over rumble strips and cobbles etc.

So annoying but it only seems to effect the non adaptive chasis control (DCC) cars, which I have :(

This guy here has had a right run around

Just praying they get mine sorted, it was really bad the other night on an uneven road with 5 adults onboard..embarrassing

They replaced all the radio system after a couple of months waiting for a software fix but not had it back long enough to know if it is OK..BTW the Golf thing I have started today with no volume on the radio, so seems common.

My car also creaks like an old wooden galleon from the doors on any sort of uneven ground too. They replaced the seals but still no good and one of my xenon's jitters quite a bit on rumbling roads but not chasing that till the suspension is sorted.

There was another thread on the same forum where the bloke sorted it with a set of Bilstein B4 OEM versions.................take the dampers off & tap, no rattle on the B4............ on the VAG stuff, rattle, the piston rod is too loose.................

Cheers Fabdavrav for the info on the Bilsteins - emailed the links for that info to my dealer as they seem to be happy to accept info I have sent them from other mk7 suspension issues.

Seems VWUK do not seem to tell them much on other reported faults?

No problems, ...good of the dealers to accept your info & YES VWUK are playing "if I don't see/hear I cannot know about the faults"................

Last night had an emailed offer on a R Estate similar to the spec shown below but not from this dealership.

36 months /10kmiles/ £9.2 k deposit @ £241per month. Optional final payment £16500

Ready for the end of December.

(Not sure if pre-reg with delivery mileage only.)

Confirmation  that the car is Brand new and not Pre-Reg.

If I wanted to go ahead the PX deal is not unreasonable for age and mileage on mine& Price that I paid.

Do I really want / need an Estate with DSG??

Just received a print out of some 25 new R Estates for UK dealers to draw from VW stock. Std or a fraction above that spec I would estimate. Range of colours

Deals to be had?

If you like the DSG why not? I would suggest IMHO the estate handles better than the hatch as the rear is more planted...............

Disclaimer:- I have not driven R hatch & estate back to back, but have driven r hatch & other various hatch & estate mk7 golfs..............

There's always deals to be had :)

Plus... it's December. That famously busy dealership month :P

Keith

That isn't too bad a deal mine on a hatch was close.

Think I put £8k down 36x£250 with £14k final all irrelevant if they sort my faults, as I plan to pay it all off and save some interest early in the new year but only if the faults are sorted.

What spec was it, any details?

SWMBO actually really likes this big Golf I have on loan ATM :( likes the fact you just slide into it rather than bending down and it is huge, was 5 adults last night plus boot full of presents and loads of room and 65 plus mpg

Edited by Defenderben

Maybe look at keeping it and get VW UK to negotiate with the Dealer what they are to pay you as a difference for your inconvenience.

VW UK really need to get their HQ Technical Department on the casee of the faulty cars being imported from the factories to the UK.

Quality control seems to be a joke with them.

16000 miles, never missed a beat. No rattles or suspension clatter,or light issues with mine

Perhaps I'm the lucky one George!

Bloody good fuel consumption and not a drop of oil between services!

Chuffed as nuts with mine but you know I'm biased.

Oh! and goes like Stink and sticks to the road like glue.

Happy days.

You are not the lucky one, you got what you were supposed to get, a quality product and if there are snagging faults they resolve them.

(with some Trim Tape in your case.)

But Volkswagen Germany and VW UK need to get the after sales care sorted out when it comes to component failures from Fundamental Design, manufacturing / sourcing and Quality Control at the Supplier or at the Production Line.

Every fault can not be the first time UK Dealership Technicians have come across something,

and if it is, they need to communicate with the Factory and Engineers and get things resolved and then TPI's to all other

Dealerships and Technicians, Workshop Managers and Reception Desk staff.

If they want to keep a reputation for reliability they need to pay the same attention to every vehicles sold from the least expensive to the Halo Model surely.

You defo slide in with the SV & bend down in the golf, well I have the same sports suspension as the R estate.........however have you tried the GT version of the SV? Again lower with multlink rear...........tried one when looking to buy, good in that spec.

However it is more expensive than the estate to buy, costs more on the insurance & has worse fuel consumption (looking at same spec engines etc).................so I went for the estate!.......also lower C of G & more fun around the bends..............

Today the sales manager from the Northern dealership, out of the blue offered me 14% discount their maximum.

My Partner likes the idea of PX'g her Fabia vRS mk2

Almost like it's December! ;)

PCH via Fleet prices seem to be quite competitive on the 'R' at the moment:-

http://www.fleetprices.co.uk/personal-lease-cars/volkswagen/golf-hatchback

Looking specifically at the £1600 ish down and £281 pcm?

Anyone else found anywhere better at the moment?  I see DrivetheDeal is offering standard 5 Dr at just over £27k.

Chubbs

Crazy, got provisionaly offered £26500 for my 7 month old R with 5300 miles, today by a Honda dealer!

Surprised they are still offering such strong PX prices.

Problem was the Type R was too chavvy looking and not looking to change yet, just wanted to see the Honda in the flesh, after reading the main Type R thread.

Wonder what CAP book is on that, by comparison. Could have just been a December dealer trick by the Honda dealer?

CAP + some discount off the Honda rolled into one, to try and flatter and tempt :)

One trouble I found was that there are a few books that dealers use and they don't always agree with each other. I watched Sales Controllers and Business Managers make their own judgments based on what the auctions are doing, which book they liked the look of most and a spot of intuition. They do get it wrong sometimes too. I guess we all hope to get one of those days were the Dealer offers too much (not just the price to change discount). Mind you, one Dealer (Peugeot) I worked at would shift cars to the Block after 2 months on the forecourt, whereas Bauer Millet (Specialist and imports) would hold cars for 2 years and more!

It's whatever version of the story suits them, at any given time usually :D

It's whatever version of the story suits them, at any given time usually :D

I doubt any 2 dealers would ever agree on exactly the same figures :D

Edit: actually that's a daft thing to say. We have all been to more than one dealer hawking our part ex, even to a second dealer that deals with the same manufacturer as a previously visited one and got wildly different figures to change (like for like)

He showed me the CAP screen, apparently the Glasses page had no prices whatsoever?

It was £24750 - £26500 based on my actual car registration plus mileage.

Wanted full book for Honda said Honda are not doing any discounts on the Type R not for the foreseeable. There was no trickery unlike VW yesterday offers me £25 against a £38k Golf R fully loaded 5 door DSG no pano roof (cancelled order). He dropped the R to £34k with £25k for mine to swap.

Edited by Defenderben

He might be discouraged to be seen to discount the Honda, but still has the same basic margins in it, therefore chose to show your trade in as a higher priced car. I would have loved to have seen the SIV of your car (actual true value as they see it) when he wrote the paperwork up, as there is the dreaded VAT thing, so the less he shows your trade in at, the more he saves on the VAT ultimately.

Dealers...they sometimes get my sympathy :)
