fabia Vrs no boost?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, im quite new to this but I cant think of anyone else to ask :-) anyway what happened, last night I let a friend of mine drive my Vrs. He's not used to diesels so was revving the * out of it, mainly in first and second, then he suddenly said, whats happened thereS no boost? Then I.got out and drove it. No unusual noises, no black smoke, no eml, just no boost and wouldn't rev over 3k. My first thought was obviously the boost pipe on the intercooler thatt could have come off. To cut a long story short, I left it sat for a few hours and when I got back into it, it was perfectly fine? Should I get this checked out further? Any ideas what it could have been?

I guess heat soak could have caused it to go into limp mode

Is it normal for them to go into limp mode under that kind of pressure?

Can't say I've seen it before. What you can do to help air flow is do the pikey arch mod

Ivr had someone drive my car once and done that same thing... must be the car taking a disliking to other drivers ;) lol

Hahaa I said that as well ;-)

Once you turn the car off and then back on after a few minutes it will boost correctly again. I did when i first got the vRS. I'm pretty sure its an incorporated safety feature to stop you blowing the turbo/engine. Your friend will have been ragging the tits off the car.

haha that's okay then. I'll just have to make sure he doesn't drive my car again >.<

Ive seen this in my mates passat estate, last week funny enough.  We were coming back from Newport and on the by-pass he was giving it the absolute gun.  He kept it 4 with his foot to the floor for about 3 miles.  We were round a bend and he started slowing down.  Lost the turbo.  Knocked it off for about 3 mins and drove home as normal.  Plugged the car in and the code said something along the lines of boost pressure static (it was static, he has a gauge and it didn't budge off 2 or 3 bar).  The car just went in to limp home mode.  Hasn't done it since but saying that, he hasn't driver like a t**t since.

well he was driving mine like he drove his audi tt, believe me it wont be happening again! haha i'm glad no one thinks its anything serious :)

Unless it stayed after you shut off and back on again I wouldnt worry... boost hoses are common and although you have the intake one as an obvious one, the less obvious is behind the drivers side wheel arch where the intercooler is.. (although im guessing looking at your pics you have a FMIC? so ignore me if thats the case)

Bottom line, Dont let your mate drive it again, those that are in the know realise you dont take it to the red line as all the boost is low down!!

Nice car though, wish I still had mine... may buy another to keep the Octy company!!

Oh, as a side note, go on ebay and get yourself an ELM327 scanner and hook it up with android torque pro app... will give you a good indication if you ever did have problems, mines saved me loads so far!

ISTR something about VAG cars logging when full throttle is used for an extended period. There was certainly some discussion about warranties on the powertrain on the 1.8Ts. In short, if you'd max'd it out and broken it, "they" would probably have a very good idea and seek clarification.

Mine went into limp mode after a thrashing round a track for 20 minutes on a really warm day and was fine after I left it a bit. He must have been seriously killing in to have sent it into limp mode.

Moral of the story - Don't let idiot's drive your car

everything still seems okay today with mine, however the mpg seems to have dropped quite considerably ? :S

Mine did this the other day but I'd not been thrashing it, was sat at 70-80 on the a1 for 40 mins then pulled off to a roundabout and as I was waiting to pull out noticed it sounded different like when the map sensor went and it had no boost. Sure enough set off and no boost. Switched it off then on and been fine since

hmmm how strange, that's basically what mine did however it didn't sound any different ! has yours been okay since?

I've got a huge cone filter and straight pipe from the turbo as my exhaust so that's probably why I noticed it sounding different lol. Yeah it's been fine apart from my clutch started slipping yesterday but that's nothing to do with it. If it starts to do it again could be your map sensor playing up as mine did this last year then it totally died, bought a new one for £30 and had to repair the wiring and it was sound then

haha quite possibly ;) yeah quite a few people have said the map sensor so that's always something to consider if it does it again :)

Cheapest place for a map sensor is ebay and when you fit it check the wiring to it as it rubs on the inner wing where it passes through and can cause problems. Mine had been repaired badly before and the wires had corroded so redid it and extended the wiring to stop it happening again. Easy job to do so hopefully if there is a fault there it will be that.

We have the same birthday too I noticed :)

Alot of things effect MPG.

Have you checked the turbo impeller visually? Take off the TIP and take a flash photo of it.
