How much do you pay for Sky and broadband?

Featured Replies

SWMBO pays just over £100 a month. I say that's too much and want her to cut it back lots! We seem to have everything sky can supply including supplying exta rooms.

I do want BT sport so I can watch moto gp this year and that another £5 a month.

What package do you have and how much ?

My broadband is also with sky.

Any advise welcome.

How Much ?!?!?!

Good grief.

I thought paying £14.99p per month for SKY TV to be constantly blasted with adverts every three minutes was a rip off, so I bought a freeview box and the broadband/phone is about £25-£30.

Bloody hell. We pay £33 for the tv. £15 phone line. £7 broadband. £5 anytime calls

Bloody hell, £100/month :o did you missus sign up for every reality show channel on earth?

That seems a tad excessive.

We have Sky+HD with Movies, costs about £45 a month I think. Well worth it personally because we can view all the movies, get on demand and Sky Player etc. plus I can set to record things from my iPhone.

TalkTalk broadband and phone like for something silly like a fiver a month plus 12,50 line rental. cheap as chips and still super fast!

Phone + broadband with UK and international calls anytime is about around £26 a month with talktalk. Fibre optic should be available in about 4 months and that will be another £5 a month, then I will change one of the freeview PVR's to youview catch up tv box.

Freeview and freesat for the TV as I object to giving any cash to Murdoch.

I have the SKY +HD and movies package, plus a few extra bits and bobs like documentary's etc, so I guess I pay about the same as you.

Separately I have my phone and interweb (unlimited) with SKY -16+mbs download speed, but that doesn't count as phone and interweb are unavoidable these days, so I would have to pay for it no matter who I went with. I have just received a free new SKY HUB router which was nice and previously received a free WiFi bridge device so I can link my SKY box to the interweb for full catch up services. So overall I think SKY is reasonable value and they have in my experience, good customer service (Call centres are in the UK too :) )

I should add that I also pay an extra £5 a month for the entertainment extra plus thingy, which gives me 3D, F1 and I can view and download to 4 separate devices anything on SKY GO. there really isn't anything as comprehensive as SKY Go in my experience, even if the quality isn't as good as BBC's fabulous iplayer.

Thanks for replys ! Will ring Sky up and see if we can reduce this silly price a touch. Best thing is I don't care how many channels we have ( happy with BBC and itv) and she only watches Corry, emerdale,Downton abbey, midwife,j Kyle ect lol !

Edit my only luxury will be to watch Chanel 413 for moto gp.

£33 for sky +hd including F1. £2.50/month broadband - promo deal with EE but line rental of £11/month had to paid up front and for 12 months. Think you need to rein in your spending.... :)

I dumped Sky for everything nearly a year ago, and to be honest I don't miss it one bit. I switched my broadband to BT Infinity2, and my TV to Freesat and Freeview.

Paid the BT line rental in advance, but pay £25 for my internet which runs at its advised speed of 76meg down and 18meg up from my location. Also BT Sport is provided for free, Previously with Sky for £6.50 I was getting 4meg down and 0.5meg up.

Might be cheaper to get rid of the wife  :giggle:

If she spends £100 per month on something she doesn't watch, I dread to think what she might spend on clothes and shoes she doesn't wear!

Nail on head!

I do sit her down now and again for a full audit of her spending habits. I go through her bank account checking direct debits ect plus unusual spending . Will do another check soon lol!

Maybe Jason Tdi furby could help as he's a professional accountant!

Try the old "I am leaving line" to get a deal.

I ended up getting a friends and family deal with Virgin, £55 all TV other than sports(though I do get BT sports "free") and movies, 120 meg broadband(soon to be 150 meg) and phone.

Tell the money grabbing sky folk,  you aint got a job now,, and you cant afford it anymore,  they are loosing a lot of customers already, they will cut your rip off bill by around 25% for approx. 6months,   then do it again.     But I have b.t sports free with their phone line, more footy next year (from sky making sky sports left whit nought.)      I threatened to leave last year due to not updating my box, and got a free skyxhd box with Bluetooth free of charge and half price bill till around sept this year.

I pay £65/month. Tv (basic) broadband (fibre) phone calls and line rental.

No movies or sports tho.

£23 Orange (EE)BB inc anytime calls and line rental. Can't see the point of Sky, I dislike the idea of paying a subscription and then still having to watch adverts every 20 seconds.    TV =   Freeview HD +  Freesat HD + Netflix at £5.99

The trouble with BT and Sport is, BT doesn't care about sport. They use it purely as a way to get customers on their Broadband. SKY started out as a Broadcaster (Without going into all that BSB stuff etc) and even though they too are now chasing the Broadband market, they do care about Sport coverage and how it is done. I have worked for both companies on their Outside Broadcasts and there is a world of difference. In the long run, after BT has bought out most of the major sport (Football being the main one) SKY will suffer terribly and BT will relax it's coverage and quality even further. This will ultimately lead to the viewer being left with a poorer product and a BT broadband :(

SKY are constantly pushing technical and coverage standards (something BT will never do once they have crushed SKY). SKY has recently done the first 4K broadcast trails from a major Football stadium and are very serious about sport being done in 4K (3D looks to be finally becoming a dead duck)

I work for all the major broadcasters and can say that SKY are the hardest to work for, but that is mostly because they demand the best product for broadcast.

Have to say I have been quietly pleased with the football on BT Sport, has a fair few matches and the "quality" has been fine. Saying that I only watch the football. :)

3D appears to have flopped, 4k is a long way off in your average home. (Though its good that the technology it is being trailed)

BT is using as many ex-SKY people as it can get at the moment to Produce the shows. But the technical quality is sometimes not as good imho (I have to be careful what I say obviously)

I'm working on 4K trials at the CWG this year for the Beeb. Sounds an interesting job so far. I don't think 4K is as far off as many people think

I'm giving Now TV a go for £9 a month, and other than that I have BT infinity which I can claim on my expenses for work. Wouldn't pay for all the Sky channels.

About £45 with sky+HD (only entertainment packs and F1), unlimited broadband, phone and unlimited calls.

Oh yeah! Forgot I had HD too, so my previous £65 includes that ;) not that it matters to you but thought I'd clarify.

On this subject has anyone experience of Primus for telephone and broadband?

I'm currently with Virgin for basic TV, phone and BB at about £42/month but will be moving house in a month or so to a non-cable area.  The famiily in the house already seems to have BT Infinity but the experience of other members of my family with BT has not been good (throttling and excessive costs).

I'm therefore intending to fo freeview for TV but have been recommended Primus for phone and BB (I was told they were cheap and cheerful unlimited with good customer service and no issues but potentially still part of BT?).

So - any thoughts?

I have Freeview and Freesat.

The phone is BT and the lowest level as we don't use it much.

BB is with Plusnet at £10 a month for unlimited.

I don't watch any sport so that's not a problem.

I am looking at getting a ROKU box as you can stream pretty much everything through it so loads of films and if you want it sports as well.

They cost around £50.
