  • After adjusting for spec differences and taking into account discounts, the gap is over £5K and with 4.9% PCP for the Seat and 6.6% PCP for the Golf, the Leon makes a strong case for itself. The Leon

  • I have just read that there is a New Seat Leon ST Cupra coming in 2015.   That will be an interesting addition, a Fast not to big estate with good handling.    Something missing from the Skoda rang

  • The cars are so close on speed that to me it comes down to what you personally want from the vehicle.   They are both capable of being driven so fast that at 80-90% you'll be a liability to other ro

So when are you getting yours George.

Replacement or an addition to the MK2 vRS.

No,

and it's no nay never, no nay never no more..

(#The  Wild Rover.)

Because never going above the National Speed Limits ever is totally doing my head in,

but it is the only way i can be sure of keeping my licence..

So i think a Standard Hillman Imp is the car for me from now on.

& I can have a smoke at the road side while letting the engine cool down while hoping the head does not warp.

Life was so easy back in the day when you went as fast as you wanted and as fast as cars could go.

(giving up 'stopping smoking' so as to save for a Leon Cupra.

We know that speed kills, and smoking might kill, but not immediately, unless you go on fire.)

And with average speed cameras spreading across the motorways like cancer, you won't be able to. Track days though, are another matter. But you won't want to take a £30k plus car on one for fear of writing it off....

Average Speed cameras running near the length of Scotland,

well south of Inverness.

& fixed cameras & Mobile vans anytime any place and its easy ozie & and calm soothe all the time now.

Why? :D

But theres more roads than motorways.

I dont particularly thrive off absolute top speed. More of an acceleration person, and corners.

Motorways are, yawn.

The things I get from the video are he says it feels like a  front wheel drive car, it understeers and it isn't permanent 4wd. It's pointless buying one if it still handles like a front wheel drive car but is worse because it's carrying all the extra weight about. I've driven the Cupra 280 and I'd have one over the Golf.

They have obviously omitted the Leon 280 from their list for whatever reason.

I would go for the Golf, the AWD system makes a huge difference, I would like to see them revisit Blyton in the wet.

Also, as already said in this thread, the XDS electronic trickery cooks the brakes, SharkRider will confirm this from his Fabia.

Finally, the extra couple of grand the Golf commands over the Seat will still be there when you come to sell it unlike the Seat will be a good second hand value rocket.

The AWD is there and an advantage when the drive does go to the rear.

& well worth its weight for safety.

As long as traction remains between the road surface & tyre / tyres.

The Traction Control on the Seat has moved on a bit from just XDS & nipping at the brakes.

Quite advanced, I have to agree but it is no all wheel drive so I imagine the TC light illuminates a lot when driven hard.

But will they be allowed to build a Cupra R,have my doubts.

If VAG allow that, then I'll have a Fabia Estate mk3 with S1 engine, 4WD and or Manual or DSG.Lowered and modified suspension as our 2nd car

It would be nice if Skoda do more than just build & rally the likes of the New Fabia R5.

& Selling some Hot Hatches or Estates using the Engines from the VWG to cash in on the Motorsport Success & Heritage would be nice,

if VW let them.

Something different again.

Could I go down to the shops in this George, avoiding all the Wiltshire potholes of course.

Now that would be fun!

Just had a look at the ring lap times. The seat does it in 7.58.40, and the volksagon does it in 8.14 . So as far as I can see, seat have just delt vw a massive embarrassment.

But it wasn't a standard road car. check the details.

And what road car is std when the manafature does the timing runs. They all use the loopholes, so the times are fare. I don't believe for one minute that vw used a completely std golf R. Golf fans can argue all they want, it was handed its a##e on a plate.

Well not really,

it was the production car Front Wheel Drive fastest time it was going for and got.

Now you can go for the Leon Cupra 280 'Sub 8' options, Brakes, tyres etc.

I have no idea what the AWD times are for the Ring,

and if the Golf R has done any attempts for a record.

DOH,

my bad,  i see there is a time posted there, 8.14.

What was that time from some VW attempt at some record ?

Im assuming the conditions were dry?

Mere mortal road testers even have to take care in the wet.

Ahaha. Love it. Proper twitching.

Like me tryna ride my favourite road when its cold n wet, under the trees.

Goin soo slow but its still squirming around and ****ting me up unexpectantly lol.

Pack was: Brembo brakes, specially designed 19"alloy wheels shod with Very Grippy Michelin Sport Cup2 tyres.

To the best of my Knowledge and Research the Golf R was standard. Unless some one can show me otherwise.

Of  course, as with the Autocar test it would be good to see both dry and wet condition, on the same rubber, standard brakes, wheels and with the same driver.

Quite honestly I don't really care, as I'm happy with my lot, on my roads ,all winds and weathers in UK.
