Blown Away By.... A Golf???

Featured Replies

oh dear :(

Went out for a drive around last night and to put a long story short ended pulling up at some lights* next to a Golf...

Looked quite sorted from the back - nice exhaust, huge tyres, rollcage - numberplate said BIG DUB.

Aha thinks me - this could be a harmless bit of fun...

Quick flick of the traction control to off... lights change... drop clutch.. brief squeel from tyres and we're off! Good start! Well so i thought! Looked up and all I could see was the back of this Golf about 50 yards down the road in front of me!

Next set of lights came - though OK, must have been a bad start, try again. (guy in the Golf is grinning by this point)

...Lights change... oops too much throttle and tyres light up for a sec, back under control and we're off.. oh... Golf is now approx 75 yds in front! What is going on???

Next set of lights I don't even bother but had a brief chat with the guy. What I did manage to glean was it was a 1.8T, with a K4 from a TT + Jabba remap. 'about 300 brake' he reckoned... nice guy.

lights change... me peels sheepishly away with a nod of respect... Can't beleive how fast this Golf was... I thought my 240 brake Octy was quite fast but this thing was unbelievable!

Now where did I put my credit card.....

(* - on a private track of course)

Yep, very fast car. Seen that around a few times at various shows. Very nice car too.

Well just think Dave -- you got 240bhp from a remap -- just think how much that guy has paid to get his 300 ish bhp !

I think the Skoda - yet again - gives much better bang per buck.....

You have my deepest sympathies Dave

But here's a comforting tale for you...

I was up in Newcastle yesterday (saturday) afternoon. Part shopping spree & part excuse to test me new Sat Nav out..

On the way back (A689 from the A1 to Hartlepool) i spotted a new-ish looking black BMW passing the Sedgefield junction at high speed...

Down went the right foot...

Discretion being the better part of valour, i decided to just sit behind rather than try and pass this nutter, but we hit some pretty scary speeds on the way down....

Now the really good part is, this BMW (330D) was blowing clouds of black smoke from its exhaust, whereas my Octavia felt like it had loads left in it...

I believe the 330D tops out at just over 140 mph, so this guy was getting towards this figure (measured by GPS, not the clock ;) )

Cost of my car...

Does the 225 audi tt have a bigger turbo?

Ouch, I bet that hurt, Dave!

Was it a 4motion? If it was 50 yards ahead of you the first time you looked when the smoke from your tyres had cleared, I bet it was.

This was a bit further down the 689, after the A1 Junction where you turned off for Durham services....and we didnt :drive: :D

MonkeyHanger, did the 330 have a personalised plate on it? Just curious as I think I might know the driver :D

Just having the PDA mounted on the windscreen for SatNav purposes tends to scare a lot of people
