Skoda Fabia vRS Front Mounted Intercooler HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi

Preferably I need someones help that has had experience with fitting their front mounted intercooler onto their Skoda Fabia vRS themselves :)

Basically my car was remapped 2 owners ago - this person only drove it on weekends as it was a show car. They sold it and the new owner had a new turbo put in after 2 weeks of owning but they didn't map everything in properly and didn't put a front mounted intercooler on after the new turbo change, this has resulted in a messed up car :(

So to sort this all out I need to fit a front mounted intercooler before I get everything else mapped in so that my engine doesn't over heat and blow up - because that wouldn't be very good!

I have a few questions about this;

1. What intercooler would fit my car WITOUT ME HAVING TO MODIFY ANYTHING?

2. How would I go about doing it myself?

I would appreciate the help as I'm not very educated when it comes to this stuff being a girl and what not!

Ive attached photos of my Skoda below.

Thanks!

A lot of people on here run the Seat Sport type FMIC, whether that be an actual Seat Sport one, Darkside or Airtec variants. However, you do have to trim a hell of a lot of the radiator surround to get them in correctly. Plus you often have to sacrifice one of the larger top bumper mounting points.

I ran a Forge FMIC setup, which quite frankly was a doddle to fit! The only modification that I had to do was trim away a small piece of plastic from the bottom of the bumper, and unbolt a small piece of plastic just below the o/s front headlight.

Other people run bespoke intercooler setups. I've seen long narrow intercoolers that are bolted to the bottom of the crash bar. However, whether they require parts of the car modifying is another thing...

If its not a hybrid turbo its doesnt NEED a fmic. . Unless you must have one I wouldn't bother.

if they just swapped the turbo like for like mapping shouldnt be an issue either. .

Just about every fmic will need some bumper trimming to get it to fit well.

Its mikes old car, I told him not long ago to buy it back, but he was unsure of what its condition would be in now. . Look after it ;-)

If I'm reading this correctly the car is mechanically standard other than a remap so it still has the standard side-mount intercooler, I understand the turbo has been replaced but unless it's had a different larger turbo fitted then you don't need to do anything to the car at all other than drive it and get it properly serviced as normal. I'm not clear why you think the car will blow up if it's just a remapped standard engine in a fancy frock and high heels.

Cant believe he sold that...
