MFSW upgrade on Superb II 3T 2011

Featured Replies

Hi, first of all I must say that this forum is so good with info and technical help, thanks guys.

This topic is about upgrading from standard 4 spoke steering wheel --> 4 spoke MFSW without paddles.

Info :  I have a Superb II 3T 2011 model that has standard 4 spoke steering wheel without multifunction switches.

I have white maxidot display and cruisecontrol installed.

I have also read through the forum on upgrading to MFSW, but I have a few questions....

* PARTS REQUIRED :

1.  Steering wheel, PN 3T0 419 091K-E74.  This is a 4 spoke wheel without the paddles.

2.  Clock spring/ electronics module for a highline version.

?  I have PN 5K0 953 569   but this is told to be a lowline version, dealer says this is the right one to use even it has wrong end letter.

Right module should be 5K0 953 569H ( This is changed to 5K0 953 569 AL), BUT from the other topics it is told to use 5K0 953 549 B.

?? What is correct one to use ??

3.  Airbag harness PN 5K0 971 584 C

     ? There are also other PN mentioned; 1K0 971 584 C,  5K0 971 584 A. What is the right one to use ?

4.  Multifunction Control unit.

? I can't find this at my collumn, is this needed for the Superb II ?

4. Programming with VAG or VCDS

I hope some of You can help me out, dealers and service dept around in Norway doesen't have the knowledge to help me. I trust You guys'

Look up your 5K0 953 569 version, for MFSW support they either say "YES" or "TBD" (To be Determined) I'd wager you can just swap over the steering wheel and it will work. Especially with Maxidot and Cruise Control. You don't need a new airbag, just the steering wheel and VCDS coding.

However, why not do like me and install the new Facelift Steering Wheel (much nicer ;-);

-3-spoke MFSW, leather, telephone = 3T0 419 091 G
-3-spoke MFSW, leather, telephone, DSG = 3T0 419 091 AJ
-Airbag = 3T0 880 201 G IZY
-Airbag cable (You need to have this, the facelift wheel has a different connector) = 5JA 971 584

The new one is from a DSG car, I have a manual, but you can either ignore the paddles which don't work obviously, or you can easely remove them from the steering wheel (like I did)

All buttons, functions and lights work. Install took about 5 minutes, no need for new coding in my case.

Price?

205€ for the wheel using allegro.pl (got lucky)
392,77€ for the airbag using the local dealer (unlucky, airbags are hard to find and very expensive :'( )

Hey,

Was your swap a direct plug and play or did you need to recode something (eg. the airbag)?

I currently have a 2010 Yeti with buttons and I would like to swap it for the newer model. I am currently investigating if there are any particular steps, if I need to do any recoding, replace the steering wheel loom (maybe different connections etc) or replace some other module.

Can you tell me if there is any difference between the 1K0971584 / 3T0971584 and the 5JA971584?

Thanks.

Cheers, care to share the link please I’m after one for the MKIII

That's great! I guess your airbag fits right in?! :)

Yes as it will be going into the MKIII Superb

That's great! Was it not an option at the time of order then?

Depends which configurator you look at (there have been several mistakes in the brochures and configurator)

At one point there was a £350 option for a (supersport IIRC) wheel but there was no description to what it included: flat bottom, perforated etc, this option soon disappeared though.

So this was the next best solution.

FWIW my 'std' 3 spoke MFSW c/w flappy paddles and vRS badge (but no airbag) will be in the classifieds before the end of the year (estimate around 13 weeks from today)
