Air filter

Featured Replies

nuqy6uje.jpg I decided to go on a quest for the location of the air filter (planning on swapping oem for a k&n filter) however I've got stuck because there's too screws that are pretty hard to get to.. I haven't seen any posts on where the filter is located so to hopefully help others I've attached a photo to give a rough idea where its located

  • Sorry but nothing sounds better than the lil 3 cylinder unit in the citigo. Lol

  • Go faster strikes add at least 10bhp!

  • exactly and i still reckon that the inlet port is the limiting factor.   You could spend  10 grand and put a new inlet manifold on, a new head with bigger valves and a new cam and map and get yourse

Update time.. after visiting halfords and buying a tool which couldn't fit into the gap when I tried, I've sort of come to the conclusion that removing the cover won't be straight forward, seems like a whole array of stuff will have to be removed first (including the long plastic piece along the front) I did see if removing the rubber seal that runs just above the engine cover would make it easier but no luck  :wall:

8utepyve.jpg So I've somewhat figured out what will have to go to get to the air filter, the windscreen wipers will need to say goodbye to get the plastic bit off then the rubber will need to go bye bye and after all that there's some metal frame work that needs to go byebye (in the photo) and there's what looks like to be wires attached to this item which I'm not likely to play with, why must skoda make things so complicated

I have changed these air filters a few times you are quite right in saying that to achieve this the plastic trim across the windscreen has to be removed ,but fitting a K&N will make absolutely no difference believe me anything that K&N produce is designed to take money out of your pocket and have absolutely no increase in performance.

Well if that's the case I'll leave it stock, thanks for the heads up! Perhaps I should stick a giant turbo in somewhere instead..?

All that just to change an air filter :(

It's doable with right tools. No need to remove more than filter cover. Not much room there, I know.

Just about managed to squeeze 2 fingers in but as collos says, if it makes no difference it's not worth the fuss, but I am however changing the wheels soon ;) nothing fancy still the standard ones that came with the car but black (cheap to buy and no insurance changes)

I've found k&n replacement element give improved throttle response with less hassle fitting

You think you have better throttle response, having spent a long time investigating this subject for many large German car manufacturers and tuners of repute I can assure you that firms who make this expensive rubbish sell to peoples minds. In the UK you have a firm named Halfords it has a shelf called the dream shelf where they sell expensive additives that do absolutely nothing but as long as certain members of the public are believers they will keep on selling and making massive profits its no different in Germany .People who really want performance improvements go to companies like Geiger and Alpina but as long as you believe that changing a piece of paper you will become a convert after all motor companies spend millions upon millions on research.I suppose they are wasting their money.

The amount of air that an engine requires depends solely on the program in the ECU with about 5% contributed by the MAF sensor if you want to see any improvement in any performance you must firstly alter the temperature the air enters the engine fit something like a Granetelli instead of the MAF and get a genius to rewrite the program in the ECU removing or playing around with the air filter alone will make absolutely no difference, having spent close on 2k you may get an improvement in a Citigo of around 4%.My experience (now retired) with Stroker 5.7 V8s and 5.5 Mercs my son makes a good living specialising in very fast BMWs so between us we have a little experience.

Im with you on this Collos, im not a tuner or a modder of my cars, but i join the formus of the cars i do run to find how to fix them when they break.

Over years, i have heard dozens of guys going on about the extra power from a K&N cone filter....

and then putting their standard air boxes back in after realising they werent getting any better performance,

and instead plumbing in a decent Cold Air Intake to the airbox

its a marketing thing, like in every aspect of life, the new greatest idea is always just being "discovered"..

Cant you just remove the engine cover?

I remember doing pulling the entire engine cover off and the filter was a lot easier to get to without needing any special tools

So routing the engine air intake through the Aircon sounds a good way to go :)

Remember people it is a 1.0 litre city car, not a hot hatch. If you want performance, don't buy a Citigo / Mii / up !

Exactly.

I've read quite a few posts on this, not all on this site and I think the same. They may make it sound better but absolutely no gains whatsoever in power, if anything it reduces mpg.

A bit like go faster stripes, but I better shut up about them. :x

I've never understood how an air filter could improve performance. Surely you'd need to update the entire intake side of the engine to make a difference, which would cost thousands....

Go faster strikes add at least 10bhp!

The only reason I would put one in mine, was for future servicing if I don't let vw do it after it's 3 years old.

But the stripes also add £400 to the price

Maybe in the future they will make a full induction kit for these instead of faffing around with an air filter.

Or perhaps in the future, a vrs citigo will turn up..? I'll probably paint the front callipers red which is likely to add 5bhp for each side

I looked at mine tonight and can't see no problem or obstructions to remove the air filter. Do you mean those 2 screws at the back under the scuttle panel?

I found them easy to get to.

How?! I could see 3, maybe because your's is a sport their more easy going?

May have been 3 it was just getting dark when I looked. I didn't see a problem although it's tight but I have a right angle drive in my toolkit at work for those torx screws. Model of the car makes no difference.
