Citigo engine noise, and possible mods

Featured Replies

I've had my Citigo since January, its a Citigo SE 60PS in Tornado Red.

It's great little car and runs well. It's done 3000 miles in 4 months.

Firstly, I normally listen to my iPod when I'm driving, but last week it broke, and I can't stand the the rubbish on radio, so I've been driving without the stereo on. Because of this I can now hear some rattling when I'm driving along - particularly in low gears under 2000 RPM. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I think it could be coming from the engine but I'm not an expert so I don't know.

Secondly, I am looking at doing some modifications to my Citigo, does anyone know what are some good mods to do and if they affect the warranty and the finance agreement?

Thanks :)

Several people have had problems with heat shields rattling (which you would have heard if you did not have the music too loud) :giggle:  :giggle:

do a search on 'mods' and 'upgrades' for a list of ideas

Thanks for the quick reply, and yes I do like my music loud! I'm new on this forum so yeah not really sure when and where to post things at the moment

Welcome to the forum :)

I find mine is fairly noisy under 2K but I put it down to the 1960,s gearbox they have fitted to the engine. It's far from quiet. The engine is though. But also as stated the heat shields are well known for rattling loose on these. It's well known on the UP forum.

I think I have the same "rattle" on my  SE, I also remember my girlfriends VW take up having the same sound. Should it be classed as a "feature" of the citigo or do I needs to contact the dealership to get it fixed?

Like Drewett96 says its only really noticeable at low rev's but when you are trying to drive in the optimal gear that tends to be all the time :(

Thanks

So maybe i shouldn't worry about it for now, or should i take it into the dealer to have it checked or something? Just for peace of mind.

It's a feature. Mixture is ignited a bit too early. Solution: lift the pedal slightly, change lower gear, or turn up the volume. ;)

Keep the revs up and enjoy :)

You won't lose any mpg.

Just remember the sound can't be any worse than the time a pot hole managed to rip the heat shield off the bottom of my car
