Blind Spot Mirrors

Featured Replies

I'm not impressed by the mirrors on the Octavia, can't remember the last time I had a car with flat mirrors, are curved/blind spot mirror glasses available?

Does anyone else have problems when on DC or Mways?

Yes, totally agree, couple of times cars have been hidden in the blind spot, I'm now very, very careful when pulling out to overtake.

Also considering getting stick on mirrors (Last bought stick on mirrors late 1980's - happy days, young free and single :)

The wife's polo has the curved mirrors which are 1000 times better than the Octavia's

I noticed this as well and wondered if curved glass is available.  I think it's good practise to look over your should before pulling out anyway.

I personally can't say I have noticed it as a problem. But my last car (a Fiesta) had flat glass, so I am used to looking over my shoulder whenever overtaking/pulling out :)

No problem but, our fuelly figures suggest a subtle difference in driving styles, that maybe why I see no problems with mirrors.

My Octy 2 had the blind spot section on the mirror & the new car hasn't which did seem a backward step to me. Never did trust the blind spot mirror fully, so always a quick check over the shoulder. Must be Skoda being "simply not clever".

I agree Kalpat - the MkII facelift 'elephant ears' with curved glass might  have done nothing for drag and fuel economy but gave excellent visibility. I noticed this when I got rid of my pre-lift one, which had the mirrors from a Polo.

With the MkIII VRS, spotting people trying to overtake on the motorway shouldn't be an issue. ;-)

Driving styles and reasons, 9 fill ups in 2014 for you, 3 fill ups for me since Friday 9th May, first week with the car and  just over 800miles.

I suppose I could get onto the motorway look over my shoulder until I'm in the outside lane, set the cruise control and ignore the mirrors until I'm ready to leave the motorway.

I have 30+ years of bike riding so "Life Savers" are second nature to me, but to see the blind area in the lane next to me I have to see around the door pillar, so either lean forward and look back, or turn and try to see out of the back window, its not a major issue, but as I do drive a few miles it's something I'll have to repeat many times per day.

I suppose I was really checking to see if maybe an incorrect glass had been fitted to my car, as a LHD car  would have a flat glass on this side.

Will see if I can find a solution and report back.

Never tried a car with these curved mirrors but surely its always better to look over your shoulder and be certain before changing lane on a motorway?

It is, but if I look over my shoulder there is a door post blocking most of the area that any "mystery" car/van/bike will be sat in, as I've already said, I do look over my shoulder when changing lanes, both overtaking and pulling back in after overtaking, but having a curved/blind spot mirror makes the area to be checked a lot smaller.

Calm down. I'm just saying that it's not something I've ever felt to be a problem.

Hmm... I've only done 20 motorway miles in just over 2,200 since 1st March so, I guess we're both right.

I used to drive your sorta milage but found I got too stressed so, I found a better work/life balance before a heart attack found me.

In my opinion the Octavia has considerable blind spots compared to my previous vehicles.  I've always looked in the mirror and then over my shoulder as a force of habit and good job too as I've been surprised to see a car seemingly materialise out of thin air on several occasions.

Replacement blind spot glass would be a day one purchase.

If you find a source for them let me know, as far as I can find out, only replacement glasses are Skoda one's and they are the same as the ones fitted, £55.00 per glass.

At the moment I have a "baby watching" mirror to cover the blind spot, which works well.

Tell us more about t6he baby watch mirror and tell us  can we get one from

Yep agree. I have a section of 2 lane 70mph road where 2 more join from the left, its the left of these that I need to get to. With mk2 it was much better vision. The opposite to this when I leave work. My 2 slip lanes dissapear so need to slot in to main dual carriageway. Not so easy now as at speed you don't really want to look over your shoulder. Think I shall start looking for a solution.

Does sound like the Mk3 wing mirrors are a step back, really like the MK2 ones

Coming from a MKII pre-FL Octy, I find the O3 mirrors are better, once you adjust them to cover the blindspot.

As an ex biker (of far too many years to admit) its now second nature to always look over my shoulder during lane manoeuvres. Dont get me wrong, I love gadgets (probably too much), but I wouldn't rely on a blind spot sensor.

Must agree the mirrors are...........RUBBISH......I also look over my shoulder

Father-in-law had a pre-FL with the old Polo mirrors, the FL and Superb II mirrors seemed to be from the Audi A4 parts bin and were much better than the current Octy III ones which seem to have reverted to the latest Polo parts bin!

Do people not look over their shoulder anyway, I do, no matter how good a cars mirrors are....

I do look over my shoulder, but in the Octy I find that the B pillar is blocking a lot of the blind spot.

So to make the lifesaver just a final check I'd like to have a blind spot mirror.

I guess it's just belt and braces..
