Superb II MY12 Bolero Bluetooth satnav to "Phone" rather than BT-Audio

Featured Replies

Hi all

googling and searching haven't help me find out if this is possible (maybe it's how I am searching for it...)

Anyhow my question is, can I get the Bolero stereo to broadcast iphone satnav audio through the handsfree "Phone" system, rather than having to select BT-Audio from the "Media" area?

I would like to listen to the radio, or CD or SD card while getting satnav directions from my phone (so it interrupts the music), rather than being restricted using BT-Audio to hear the navigation, and only playing music from my phone.

So can I hear my navigation alerts, more like a phone call, and not like streamed music?

Thanks!

I don't have this system, but I think you're asking a lot of a comparatively simple system. I'm sure an expert will give the complete answer soon.

It's nothing to do with the bolero, it's up to the phone to send the audio over the hands-free-profile (HFP) instead of the A2DP profile.

With Apple's closed ecosystem, I'd expect that you'd need to be jail-broken and have some non-apple approved apps to enable this (e.g. from Cydia).  I'm not very familiar with Apple phones as I live in the Android ecosystem.  Android has apps such as "Super BT Mono" that can achieve this, but it's much easier on Android as the (rooted) user is able to gain access much deeper into the phone operating system.

I'd also point out that the HFP has much lower sound quality (8kbps mono) compared to A2DP.

I stream GPS instructions over A2DP from my phone and cannot listen to radio at the same time, however I work around this by streaming radio or using music stored on my phone.

Had a similar problem conundrum with my Yeti Elegance (but have also had a Superb SE and the Bolero was the same, so hopefully this will work for you), this was the solution  for iPhone 5 anyway.....

For me the difference was about *when* I switched Bluetooth on - if I had it turned on when I started the car it would allocate and use the BT-Audio channel which meant constantly changing back to radio after google maps had given me directions.

If I switched the ignition on, did all the setting up the route in the car and THEN switched bluetooth on and 'Connect Phone' using the MFSW then all the directions came on as a phone call rather than BT-Audio.

So I could listen to the radio/SD card, directions would be treated as a call so would mute the radio, the directions came out of the speakers, the 'call' (directions) ends and the radio would be unmuted.

I've just exchanged the Yeti for an Octavia Elegance so can't go and replicate this - while the new car has sat nav, the phone handling is much slower than the set up in the Superb or Yeti...will take a little getting used to I think.

Thanks for the information wokwon, that was the information I needed to know - two different audio profiles (I had no idea what they were called)

Great suggestion Chucker

Mine is an iPhone 5 also, I will give it a try

Thanks to wokwon and Chucker's comments I have a solution.

For the benefit of others here is what I now do:

  1. Let Skoda bluetooth connect to phone as usual when starting the car
  2. From the dash maxidot display select "Phone" and go to "Bluetooth", "Media Player"
  3. Then there should be an option like paired devices and Disconnect.

This disconnects the bluetooth media player, but not the phone pairing.

Phone calls and Phone Sat Nav instructions will now come through the stereo when Radio or other in car media is playing.

Note, this works on my MY12 Superb Ambition with Bolero Stereo and iPhone 5.  It may not work this way with other models...
