Didn't the guy with the diesel rally fab say its not worth it because of the restrictor for the turbo? Just build it for fast road and track

I think so after reading through! What my issue is though that it might get used 9 times a year if it's lucky! Due to my age I've not got a hope in hell of insurance for a good few years yet!

How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

17! It costs enough on a 1.2 Clio let alone a highly modified 1.8T Fabia! The original plan was to trailer it everywhere

99% sure Greenlight won't touch anyone under 21 on a modified policy. I'm 26 and mines dirt cheap to insure all mods declared etc. You would need something fairly big to toe it legally

Works van :) it would have to be! No one touches an under 21 on modified so it's got me thinking where it would just be sat in a drive way most of the year

What's the towing weight of the van? Because the vehicle towing has to be heavier than the load (i think) but not sure you would get the weight under 1100kg's with a cage in plus the trailer

The combos are 2000kg :)

My mistake no they aren't

Exactly, it's probably trailer test time.

It's not going to be under 900kg IMO plus around 400 for a trailer.

My Brian James trailer is exactly mk1 Fabia size and it's 500kg.

So you need a vehicle with a kerbweight of 1400kg (ish) or a trailer test to tow it.

Damn! Got my weights on the Combo mixed up! I can't tow it legally with anything by the looks of it

My mates 2.5tdi Superb was on the limit and we never risked it with my fab because the trailer was heavy and because i don't know the weight of mine wasn't worth the risk of because pulled over

Just checked the weights on all the vehicles in the driveway and none will be of any good! Nor will any up at the yard as they are all to heavy so looks like it will be trailer test time at some stage

Agree 100%.

I got caught out about 6 years ago towing a Defender with another Defender.

As the one on the trailer was loaded with expedition kit it turned out to be 50kg over the 3,500kg towing limit.

Fine, costs and 3 points. :(

Silly mistake.  Thought it was fine.

I can't get another 3 points either so I wouldn't even try

Are you not on a pre '97 licence Richard?

Are you not on a pre '97 licence Richard?

Yes.

But it was a vehicle and trailer weight of 3,550kg against the rated braked towing weight on the Defender of 3,500kg.

The Defender itself was a 90, so only weighed around 1,800kg.

Caught at one of these road side vehicle filtering lots?

No, caught sideways across the road after the trailer corner dug in and flipped the other Defender (still on trailer) into the road, blocking it. :peek:

Slightly less subtle you could say...

I learned a lot about how being a little over the weight limit makes trailers behave differently.

Not my finest moment.

Wow! I suppose they were relatively top heavy and sway a bit

I agree it's not worth losing my licence our just trying to tow a Skoda with incorrect weights as knowing my luck I would get caught so I'll just have to do the test eventually etc

Is an 'A' frame an option? Not sure on the rules for them myself

I'd be absolutely sh**ing myself if it was me
