Changed my gearbox oil today.

Great thanks. I'll give that a go when time allows.  Just need to find out 100% which of the two oils I need as every where I go gives different info on the two part numbers :/

  • Part number & price for my car is on post 4,you will need to quote your reg no. of your car at your local dealer to get the correct oil.

  • Sadly its not my personal garage, its the workshop i work in for the MOD.

  • Part number was G052171A2 & it cost me £49.31 for 3 litres from my local dealer. i took out & put in approx 2.3 litres, hope this may be of use to anybody else wanting to do this job.

From the two part numbers you put up earlier the only difference is the date of your cars manufacturer, what year is your car? id maybe ask another skoda dealer as i had no issues getting mine from one.

Mines a 58 plate & i was given G052171A2,i dont know if the gearbox is different for the TFSI & TSI. Im surprised your having such a problem getting the correct oil from a dealer,i had no issues.

you won't they're always so damned sure they're right   :p

Right, had enough. Just going to order new oil.  £60 is a lot to waste but it's that or potential damage to my gearbox.  Can the oil be changed without raising the car? I only have two axle stands is all.

I'm really struggling to find out which is the correct oil. Is this correct?

according to my earlier post and even earlier research  the Fuchs stuff covers both grades    it's what I put in my nearly new (16K) (09 six speed)  box it now has 30?K on it   if it's hard to do take the oil to someone with a lift and ask-- a decent garage won't refuse and it's low cost for just the labour

Did this work recently. The old oil (has done ~165k km) looked like a porter beer :)

After everything I don't feel any changes in gear shifting but at least I hope it's better than before :)

As ive said before, just buy the correct genuine stuff from your local dealer.

Bumping an oldish thread.  Ordering new box oil as I've not been able to change it.  £21 per L at Skoda, or £14.49 per L at GAP.  Cheapest I've seen it thus far is ~£11 per L on eBay, here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-AUDI-VW-SEAT-SKODA-VOLVO-MANUAL-GEAR-BOX-OIL-SAE75-G052171A2-0019892603-/371027776092

Is this genuine, correct stuff? Or will it be a generic oil spec that claims to meet VW specs?

Good stuff. This is what I filled my box with last week.Paid 8 euro a bottle. The ebay seller is way too expensive.

Cheers, I thought I'd best check.  I'll just order the OE stuff, G052171A2. Cheers!

Hi all, me again.

Can I just triple check the right part number for the gear oil please? I asked for 3x G052171A2, but they received G052512A2. Their parts supplier is adamant the latter is simply a newer part number, but have sent the former to keepe happy. Which should I be putting in my 2009/10 2.0Tsi?

That part number on a google search comes up as mineral oil,i was told by my dealer that the vrs 6 speed box requires synthetic oil not mineral oil. I was told that the mineral oil is for the 5 speed box.

Which one? Sorry mate, I know I'm being pathetic, just want to make sure it's the right stuff...

G052171A2 is the synthetic oil which my dealer supplied & G052512A2 comes up on a search as mineral oil,im amazed you are having such a drama to get the oil,i just went to my dealer & they supplied the correct oil within 5 minutes & i went & did the oil change. I did mine 2 years ago now.  :D

Me too. Thankfully now I have a mate who has his own business now so I can just go "here, fit this please". Trouble is, he asked for G052171A2, but they said G052512A2 is the newer, better oil, and sent that instead.  My box is an early facelift so it needs the older spec.  Got it rectified and the oil's being delivered and installed tomorrow.  Thankfully I was only dropping the car off tonight so it's not going to be in any longer than planned hopefully.

glad you got it sorted as G052512A2 is for DSG gearbox and would of been incorrect

This is twice now my car's registration has caused problems. For some reason, if I punch my car's reg or VIN into any checker, be it the likes of ETKA, Skoda, MOT, HPI/History checks, parts shops... it ALWAYS comes up as a Octavia VRS DSG.  It's not. I can assure you it's a standard 6 speed manual...
