Actual MPG 2.0tdi VRS

Featured Replies

I am about to order an Octavia Estate 2.0tdi manual and wondered what others who have the car seem to be averaging mpg wise. Would be interested to know if it's gets better with time as well.

I was very close to ordering an Octavia 2.0tdi Elegance but think the VRS looks much better and there didn't seem to be much in the official mpg figures. Appreciate that these are not real world figures so would be interested to hear from those of you who have one.

On another note I am looking at using a car broker (carfile) for placing the order as they seem to be the cheapest getting 14% off. Anyone had any experiences with them or any other brokers?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about Carfile but a friend of mine got a Passat through Orange Wheels and got the spec he wanted for £5000 less. A guy at work used them was offered a car with good discount but it was Scotland, he lives in Hampshire.

I have a vRS but the auto (DSG) and the claimed figures are a way off the real world experience.

I'm not a toe to the floor guy but I'm no slouch either and on average, I'm seeing more than 10mpg LESS than Skoda claimed figures. Having covered about 4k now, it does appear that the mpg does improve from brand new but I'm not expecting it to get any better than it is now.

I have the hatch (manual) and have 2500 miles on the clock.

If I drive around 70-80mph on motorways with a bit of town driving thrown in then to a tank I get 50-55 mpg currently.

Just motorway driving I achieved just over 60mpg - 65 is my record.

If I drive like I've stolen it then the least I've got so far is 41mpg.

My last two tanks have been 51mpg, and that's actual worked out with fuelly, average over the last 10 tanks is 49mpg, but the readings from the car itself are usually +\- 1mpg from actual, my record for a journey is 62mpg.

4169 miles and I'm getting 51.51 mpg on average, real figures not the cars. Usually get to 800kms easy  before the light comes on.

Mines a manual and I drive mixture of longer drives in weekend and daily run is 30kms to work in CBD and back just in rush hour traffic but not on motorway one way. I don't use auto stop/start either.

I tend to get about 45mpg per tank and that's a mix between town and A road driving. Came to Cardiff from Telford yesterday with 4 people in the car and a boot full and got 61mpg. My car has done 9k now and it's certainly getting better with age.

Jonathan at Carfile is very helpful and will talk you through whatever option you're looking for, incl. straight deal, finance, part-ex., etc.

I'm on 7k and am averaging 51mpg generally, going up to 54 on a 200-mile run on A-roads (both figures with 2 in + bit of luggage, driving quick-ish, but not flat out).

vRS driving fun is worth it over the non-vRS !, if you can wait for delivery.

Check out the Fuelly.com website as there are many vRS TDIs from this forum registered on there.

My average fuel economy is around 53mpg (90% highway driving with around 600m up in altitude one way & then descending on my way home).

On flat highway I get closer to 60mpg but driving in Switzerland is very different to the UK, much less traffic & more constant speed.

Not sure how this compares to the 150ps 2.0l diesel.

However, having gone through the same decision recently, I can thoroughly recommend the vRS.

I'm very happy with my choice despite paying a few thousand more :)

Hi

I get about 51mpg normal driving

42 driving fast

My mpg is woefull car is showing 40.1mpg long term. Probably because I'm in Germany and the slowest I drive is the two minutes of 30 kph I do in getting off the estate, everywhere else it's 60,70 or 100, don't ask about what speed I do on the autobahns (max). I've seen 50 odd mpg twice and even 60.4mpg once I was pleasantly shocked.

As SWMBO says no point having a VRS if you drive it like a 85 hp city car!!!. Thanks to those cheeky coupons we get over here fuels cheap bonus.

Average according to a fuelly type app is 52mpg. Mixed driving. Used to do more motorway miles. Now doing more A roads and no motorway on my daily commute so mpg has decreased.

I average about 42 round Edinburgh (driving back roads and then onto the bypass) and the occasional longer run.  Longer journeys I get better economy but have never managed 50mpg.

vRS TDI, Manual Estate with ~8500 miles on the clock from november.

Pretty poor in my manual tdi vrs really. Low 40s mainly. In city traffic, journeys can be as low as 35. Motorways are about 50. I drive about 300 miles a week, 60% motorway and the rest a mixture of roads. Average over 6500 miles is 45.6 which is far less than my old C5 despite the Octavia having much higher official figures.

my 1st tankful was 44.5 mpg brim to brim car has only got 500 odd miles on it tho...light came on at 427 miles

Having covered just over 1000 miles my average from new is showing 47-48. I do enjoy the car when traffic permits and have been driving mainly a mix of A roads and short town journeys.

From past experiences, cars usually need ~10k miles to start showing their best fuel figures.

TBH knowing I am not the most economical driver, and that the car has a reasonable bit of oomph when I can enjoy it, I am more than happy with the fuel consumption.

If MPG is of prime concern to you the Elegance would be more suited IMO.

Last week I decided to take it easy and drive around 60. It was for about 90 miles each way and a quiet late night motorway . I clocked up 67 as an average.

The fuel consumption is improving with the added miles. Then I spoil it and put my foot down!

I like the eco mode when it  drops into coasting mode and you are travelling at 60 - 70mpg with the revs at 900.

Just had it serviced at the garage it an engine and DSG software update. (the eco mode would not kick out of coasting mode but it seems fine now)

I used Carfile to purchase my VRS TDi.  Jonathan at Carfile is a lovely chap.  Very helpful.  Coventry Skoda on the other hand were not very helpful at-all and I will avoid at all costs in the future.

A steady 50 mpg for me,

Driving is a mixture of town motorway and short distance stuff. The car has only done 1500 miles so I am expecting a little more in a few months time.

48mpg if im driving slowly and conservatively.. 35.8 is my lowest , havn't managed to touch the brochure figures though

54mpg long term according to trip computer after nearly 5k miles. Normally get 60+mpg on way to work (A roads and M25) but drops on a weekend......

Had an Alfa MiTo before which struggled to get 40mpg. Savings for me (20k /yr) have been enormous!

I think I must've been sold a pup.

I had the perfect drive today, straight flat motorway, 40 miles with cruise set at 68 (which is much more economical than 70 according to the display) and my mpg was 54.

Now with only 3000 miles on the clock I am getting 43 mpg on a tank

I am off to Cornwall at the end of the month, I will see what it does on a long run...

Hi

2.0L Elegance estate DSG full of plumbing tools, getting average 45 mpg. On a long  run have seen 50 mpg. I am happy with these results. ( 18K miles on the clock )

Manufacturers claims are always out. It is a game they play with each other and the paying public get sucked in along the way.
