eBay woes...

Featured Replies

Just a little rant....

This week I've put in my watching list, all items local and within 10 minutes of me and up for auction.

- vrs leather interior, item ended early with 2 days to go.

- Seat sport intercooler and pipe work, ended early with about a day to go, my bid was canceld and item taken off. Anoyyingly my bid was higher!!!!! *#%^ing higher!! Than the price he ended it for. The added bonus would of been me collecting it an paying cash, saving him posting it and paying ebay and paypal fee's.

- asz full engine, everything included(turbo, injectors, alternator... You get the idea) came with clocks to prove mileage of 90,000 miles, take it as proof if you like. I wanted to bid £250 for it thinking I might get lucky. Missed the item ending being my own fault but sold for £150.

- fabia vrs 6 speed gearbox. Sold for £99, bargin I thought...

I always find that most people (myself included) are willing to end an auction early to save on fees etc.

Anything I really, really want these days I make the seller an offer via message before bidding as the seller only sees that the item is bid on and not what your actual bid is.

That said, the last two items do seem rather cheap.....

My eBay rant it paying for an item after a "make an offer" option for a double din unit, getting accepted on that offer, promptly paying.

Waited 3 days, nothing about sending it off, so I sent a message. I receive no message but a day later it's "posted" that was the 18th and it's supposed to be express delivery. Waited till friday, asked again. Still no answer.

Case is now open to get my money back (ffs), but am I missing something? Like if they didn't want to sell it for that price surely they'd say no.
Sorry for the hijack.

There is times on eBay where I see something at a decent price and miss out too. :/

EBay used to be good... Now its all about gumtree...

My rating on eBay is nearly 2000. Been a member. Since it started... Its not so good these days! Scams everywhere.

I never end an auction early out of principle.

The VRS was a prime example.

Got £2,001 for it, less fees.

Even though I had three people offer me £2,000 cash.

That's why it's an auction... Once it's on there it's not coming off!

principle

A lot of people on ebay would need this word explaining to them.

What headunit out of curisotity? Ive just noticed a cheap double din on ebay but its using a pic from an other active advert and the seller sold it previously for like £11 and never posted out to buyer, not suprised considering its probably worth about £200 plus!

To many arseholes on eBay now. I had a guy bid up my item then not pay! Checked his recent feedback and he's done it to 4 other people for the same items and got away with it!

Also had a guy give me bad feedback because he'd paid for the item that evening and didn't receive it the following morning lol! What an idiot

Shocking Dan can't believe you didn't assume he'd win and hadn't already posted it that night, bit off buddy you need to try harder ;)

Bid on some boost pipes last night, £55. Sold for £56.

I won a set of spare injectors yesterday for £12, that I don't even remember bidding on. :D

Once won some BBS alloys with pirelli tyres for £100 to collect just down the road. I was chuffed, till the seller cancelled it!

I get annoyed with some sellers being awkward about shipping to NI. I know that for some things (large/heavy stuff especially), Royal Mail isn't ideal and some couriers charge a fortune, but there's normally a way of sending at a reasonable rate. It's the ones that refuse flat out and don't even reply to messages that get me - especially when they're sending via Royal Mail anyway!

There's a seller in particular I was wanting to buy some clips from - shipping method RM24 (the same service I get stuff sent from a business supplier of mine every week for £1.20) - £20!

If I can get something sent from anywhere in the EU or China to NI at a reasonable cost, there's no excuse from mainland UK. Really grinds my gears!

Not the same buyer, is a Kenwood that was never actually taken out of the box. Was going to get it £40 quid cheaper than retail, wish I never bothered now. Clearly out to fob people off.

No chance.

This isnt rocket science but to win you must be the highest bidder.

I once one a set of OZ super turismo wheels for £50. 17" good condition. Seller wouldn't reply to my messages when I tried to pick them up!

Give a sht about ebay ? It doesn't deserve a decent reputation, so not worried if it fails to meet my expectations as i never a high expectation of it to start with.

Its not even really the same atmosphere or as fun as a proper auction anyway, which can lead to overbidding, people changing their mind etc. In short, it sucks

Plus I've lost so many opportunities at "bargains" on there the favour is gladly always waiting to be repaid if necessary, most recently the double din kenwood I "won" and "paid for" at £130 odd and got refunded as it was "broken". Just no point wearing your heart on your sleeve with ebay auctions, its not yours til its yours, end of the matter.

The moral of this story is regarding "cash on collection" type sales register your interest and BEST offer asap by contacting the seller DIRECTLY. The way paypal and ebay is going with fees anyway, bypassing them may stand to work in their interests too.

Otherwise you may stand to lose as there is never any guarantee its going to be yours (although doesn't hurt if they don't respond to you outside of the ebay auction to bid anyway, who knows you might win and they respect it anyway!)

I too have been made aware of the unscrupulous ebayers.  I have an interest in North British Locomotive class 21/29 diesels (and before anyone asks I don't own an anorak!) anyhow I have collected a few Hornby class 29's.  they are acceptable but the detailing is poor and the wrong livery was applied to early models, plus the 3 pole electric motors are crude.

Now here's my point these usually don't attract frantic hoards of early bidders when a private individual lists one for sale, accordingly when the auction is on its last day you might see a few bids.  However, there's a model shop that sell this model on ebay now and again and somewhat surprisingly lots of bids are made early on in proceedings with the price being more than other listings for the exact same locomotive it begs the question.who is bidding?

if there were 5 VRS gearboxes listed all very similar in condition / miles etc at say £50  £70 £95 £100 and one at £165  you would'nt expect a run of bids on the one at £165 would you.

I also worked with a guy sometime ago who sold his sons quad bike and he knew a bidder was seriously interested,  So he tells me he got his mate to put a spoof bid on of + £50 near the end and the other bidder rebid and won but paid £50 more because of the spoof bid. I am pleased too say I now don't have anything to do with this individual.

Fake bids are always a shame, that's what eBay reserves are for.

I have had very few problems with ebay in the 12 years I've been using it. In all honesty I've been messed about more selling stuff on here when people are really keen to strike a deal and then just go quiet when the time comes to pay money. The majority are good people though :D
