First post - hello! Free service intervals?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just found this site, it's awesome

Here's my story; I took delivery of my vRS 2.0Tdi in December on a 7000 miles per annum PCP with three years free servicing.  The dealer at the time mentioned something about my car being on a variable service plan because of my low mileage but I wasn't really paying attention (I just wanted to get into my new car and off the forecourt!)

However, my job has changed which results in a longer daily commute.  Consequently, I'm already at 8,200 miles and racking up 400 miles a week.

I have no paperwork relating to servicing apart from one piece of paper telling me I'm entitled to an oil change at 10,000 miles (service records are stored online I was told) - if I use the infotainment system it tells me I'm due an oil change in 11,800 miles or 495 days.

Should I be making arrangements for something at 10,000 miles or regard the infotainment numbers as correct?

I don't want to give SUK the opportunity to wriggle out of the free servicing.

Thanks for any advice!

The free servicing deal is 3 free services, one every 10k miles or 12 months and a brake fluid change at 3 years.  It cannot be used with variable serving so you need to get it in at 10k miles.  Your car has been incorrectly set for variable servicing which at the time of you doing 7k miles a year is wrong, with low mileage you should have been put on fixed anyway......

Neily, the 3 free services can be used in conjunction with variable servicing. I have mine on variable. I was also told by another dealer, that as this may mean i dont get 3 services in within 3yrs, that I should bring the car in early if im able to.

Mine was put on variable specifically to make sure SUK couldnt try and claim by warranty was void if i wasnt around when a service was due.

All perfectly valid. Just remember the 3 free services only last for 3yrs, so get a service in early if you can.

I asked my dealer and the Free serving is 3 services, one every 10k miles or 12 months, it cannot be used with variable servicing despite me doing 15k miles a year.  SUK's website says the same and so does the paperwork I received for my car from SUK and it's very specific;

They only last for 30,000 miles, so you will only get one service on variable.

You beat me to it!

Variable and free servicing offer are mutually exclusive.

They only last for 30,000 miles, so you will only get one service on variable.

Well i shall be going in early when i can. As suggested to me

Well i apologise then, but out of 2 different dealers, this has never been mentioned. None have said my services wont be carried out, and one suggested coming in early if possible to ensure i get all 3 services.

Needless to say, nobody will be trying to pull out of it. I shall take my services due to me

and one suggested coming in early if possible to ensure i get all 3 services.

Did he mean 8.5k miles early? :D

Just checked my letter and it is pretty much the same, 36 months or 30k miles, whichever comes first. The brake fluid change is specified as at 36 months, and it explicitly states that if you do more than 10k pa you may not get all of the above, which implies you won't get the brake fluid change.

id have to check what mileage is on the variable system, but if its 18000, then yes, it could be 8k early i go in, or even more. I will be looking more at timeframe, not mileage.

I dont know what mileage the dealer had in mind, but considering he said come in early to ensure you get your 3 services, how else could it be meant? Only one meaning to what was said

Just take it in at 10k and 30k, it is only an oil and filter change then anyway.

Rumour has it that air, fuel and pollen filters don't get changed until stupidly high mileages on the O3 anyway.

The 20k service. Is that really just an inspection? I can do that myself i expect.

Certainly i'll be checking things like brake pads before any service anyway, to make sure they dont try and pull a fast one

20k is inspection and oil and filter change

20k is inspection and oil and filter change

ah well, it can have that one as well!
