Im amazed at how expensive they are. Like you said, on this forum they are asking far too much for them in my opinion. End of the day its a 5 door diesel skoda but with a blue paint job, realistically the average car buyer would rather spend £7k on a Golf. 

Is the cost of the paint job + leather and other extras worth the extra difference in price?

 

From what ive seen it would appear you could get any Fabia VRS fit it with new leather seats and spray it for the same price as SE models on the market.

i'm in the process of paying £5000 for number 892, full years MOT and new brakes all round and service, only got 56k on it, then again i'm buying from my girlfriends granda, so much cheapness (y)

I think it partially the prices of non SE vrs'. Some people asking £4,000+ for a bog standard vrs, no optional extra's and 100k + on the clock.

 

So when selling an SE privately, people just add a couple of grand on top because it is assumed the colour and leathers warrant it!

 

It is a lovely colour though......

Traders are hyper-inflating the prices of all of the diesel Fabias is all I can think. The majority I see on eBay and autotrader sit at ridiculous prices for 6 months+ before selling. Private sellers try to repeat it and then seem surprised when they don't sell!

There are a lot of VRS' at very silly prices in general from what I can gather!

So what would you be looking at for a 53 Plate MK1 VRS with 56k, Cruise Control and Xenons?

 

No service history as all done by the owner, Cambelt and Water Pump just changed.

 

Pretty good condition all round.

While the car drove fine, it had some cosmetic issues such as severe paint flake on the rear spoiler and the alloys could have done with a refurb. The gear knob also needed replacing. What put me off the most though was that some boy racer had it before as there was a receipt for koni yellows in the history which confirmed my suspicion that the car was lowered despite the dealer saying it wasn't. 

 

It was the first one I had driven and it also felt slower than I thought it would, ran out of puff very quickly, had to keep changing gear. I guess a remap remedies this. It has put me off these cars a bit though as you can get a lot for £4500 these days and the Fabia just seems to expensive for what is. I have started looking at the BMW 3 series and Honda Accord as alternatives. I could do with the extra space anyway.

I dont really see the problem if you have one then its holding its value well, so why complain, end of the day it is an attractive car, there reliable, cheap to run, make great projects, if people looking to buy one don't like the price then buy something else instead and quit wining that the VRS was overpriced.

They will never be a classic, the price of the fabia vRS are silly. There nothing that special in my opinion. As standard there quite slow and the handle pretty terrible.

They are cheap to run and are reliable though.

Reread, it's a discussion not a complaint or whine.

I understand that if someone is selling their car then they can choose whatever price they like; if it sells then great, if it doesn't then that's their own prerogative and they can continue at their wish or lower the price. It's their car so they can do what they want.

 

It's just that when it gets to about £5k to £6k, there seems to be better options out there.

 

But as I say, if you own it, you can obviously ask however much you like :)

Wouldn't pay more than £4,000 for any mk1 vrs, any colour, year, mileage or spec.

Old school now and people know it. People buying them are people that owned one years ago and want that cheap reliable side back. I can't see a first time buyer paying 6 grand for one if they look about and see an older one sell for £1,500 on eBay, all be it... The exact same car.

I dropped the price of mine, was never going to get nearly what I paid for it a year ago.

Yours seems the most sensibly priced SE at the moment

The thing is about the Fabia VRS is in my opinion it fills a gap in the market. I paid more than I wanted for mine, but what other car has this going for it?

- percieved reliability of PD130 engine

- Diesel engine for decent mpg on long trips

- relitavely good performance given the mpg

- size. Its really small and can fit in small parking spaces. really important for some.

- as for the 1k premium for the SE - well its a nice shade of blue!

 

also strikes me, a lot of 8+ year old cars are just holding value well at the moment, not just the fabia, though the fabia vrs seems to fare better than most.

Any cheap to run sporty diesel hatchback is going to hold it's value in the current climate. Have a look at the Ibiza FR/Cupra with the same engine, The Golf GT TDis or the Audi A3s.

 

The value of some petrol hot hatches of a similar age have fallen through the floor as a lot of folk can't be bothered with the running costs any more. That was exactly the reason I swapped to a vRS after owning a Type R and VXR previoulsy. On the running cost front it does pretty much double the MPG, consumables such as tyres and brakes are noticably cheaper, less tax etc etc. While it's still reasonbly perky to drive, ok the handling in standard form leaves a LOT to be desired but I guess thats a compromise as no car is perfect at everything!

There are roughly 800 left on the road and if well looked after I don't see why they can't hold value.

I bought my SE as I wanted a cheap and economical car for commuting whilst still nice to look at with some sporty hints.

Had a vRS before and loved it, just hated the standard colour seats.

If something decent comes out to replace it then I will consider it! needs to be small, economical, sporty, nice to look at :)

Ibiza fr tdi springs to mind but the interior is woeful.

They are overpriced in my eyes. Paid 3300 for my ibiza with a far superior factory spec with 74k miles. 3300 would get a ropey vrs never mind an se, i dont get it though!

You say that though but I had to take our Fabia to football last week and came back with a massive grin on my face.

Even in standard form I think it's actually more enjoyable to drive than the Ibiza.

The CR engine is lovely and the extra ~10mpg are welcomed but it feels a bit lethargic after the eagerness of the PD.

That said it's a much more refined place to spend any amount of time and is a much more grown up proposition.

That much so that it genuinely feels wrong to drive it flat out.

Not long

 

there are a couple on eBay at the moment for £4500

one with 130k and one with 99k

 

Fabia VRSs in general seem to be in 3 camps at the moment

 

"low" mileage ones (think less than 70k) which are way overpriced

normal mileage ones (think 100k) which are overpriced

high mileage (200k) or ones with blown turbos which are being scrapped or sold for peanuts

 

as rover says a mk4 Seat Ibiza gives you much more for less money

I mean there was a top of the line 180bhp 1.8T Cupra with 60k on the clock on ebay last week for under £3000

I quite like the new Diesel engines but a lot have said they lack the enjoyment the pd engines give until remapped.

I may look at an audi a1 or seat Ibiza if the new fabia is a disappointment. 1.6crdi engine with a remap should be fun :)

And there was me hoping to get £9k for mine  :notme:

How the hell is a 1.6 diesel remapped going to be fun, they probably already have it mapped as good as it can get for both efficiency and performance (as they are around the 130hp mark, but somewhat lower on the torque)

Half the diesel fun is the torque, 1.6 sounds like a thoroughly unfun proposition to me, remapped or not.

 

Oh and generally in agreement to Bossfox and others just going back on topic about the car prices.

Its a bit more like a Corsa/Nova cult style car, not a classic, maybe perceivably a classic to some, but I don't think so. Despite that its an affordable and great package car that in most cases is cheap to obtain (was cheap from new also) that will just run and run.....so just run it /mod it if you like !

 

Those that treat it like some kind of investment = deluded. That doesn't mean its wrong to keep the car looking really nice, to me thats all that matters.
