  • Right, this is getting ridiculous now.   I really do feel sorry for Tom, as his thread is being constantly spoilt by off topic arguments.   Can the people involved please no longer post if it is d

  • Ok so here it is, side by side comparison of M-Perf and Stock M135i exhausts. A mate of mine owns the white car, the grey one is mine. :-)

hope you don't mind me posting all this guff in our thread Tom, but I got my car back from the detailers and the result is superb. Super shiny and ultra reflective. The coating has teeny flecks of gr

Its provably full to the brim of Golf R links ;) haha

Hmm or perhaps Golf 1.4 links. Dunno how we ended up so far OT. The chap in the other thread doesn't have an R yet thinks his 1.4 similar? The R is hugely better than the standard car in the entertainment stakes imho

His cars a 1.4? Is a GT a 1,4?

Oh dear. Makes it worse haha.

My dad had a 2010 2.0tdi 140bhp golf estate (company car, needed to be an estate and wanted the biggest diesel they did. Which was the 140bhp DSG at the time. Fully specced, a very nice car though) . It was called a sportline then n i know theyve changed the named abit, so thought he perhaps had something similar.

Could be wrong I think they did do a Golf 1.4 GT TSI 170...but I could be just jumping onto a thread at totally the wrong time and place,

So I will say I have owned one straight six engine in a E39 Sport Tourer and apart from the gearbox throwing a hissy I would gladly have another car with a similar engine (I am guessing the straight six in the 135 is same once you take off all the modern bits?) and I can imagine one in a 1 series body shell makes a fun car and evidenced by this thread it would seem it does!

They put the 1.4 twincharger in the golf didnt they? Dont know about the spec though

They did, it was a GT spec similar to the 170 Diesel spec I believe, did look at them at one point but read to many horror stories about the engine so ended up with the VRS

I dated a guy with a XK6 for a short while. If I'm honest I think I just saw him for his car :D It was a lovely engine and amazingly smooth in those days. Bet it would still impress today

Yeah thats the problem i have with the fabia SE. All the girls keep tryna get with me for the car, they all wanna hear the 3 cylinder 1.2 roar.

keep having to fend them off.

Dreaming again arent i...

Borrowed a xj6 I am guessing similar engine, but that was like driving a really comfortable sofa around.

I do keep looking at straight six cars but as a second car now, would like a e36 m3 or another e39 530 but a manual this time. SWMBO wants a Woodburner for the house so will have to wait.

You obviously don't read my posts do you................

I said my INTERIOR is similar in spec to the R..............................FFS.......................you really don't pay attention do you..........plus you don't know Golfs.............otherwise you would realise that the GT spec interior is very similar to the R spec....plus I stated I had speced up my goodies to R spec & beyond.

Don't slag me off because of your incompetence!..........

Hmmm I re-read your post

"

Had I ride in my mates 2013 M135i...........................just paying for the engine & rear wheel drive.....the rest is not better than my Golf!

In fact I did a long drive last week in my car with said mate & he couldn't believe the gadgets that my car had compared to his.

the list of items he said the BMW doesn't have (& my Golf has) which annoys him:-

1. oil temp display

2. analogue coolant temp display

3. sync for dual zone climate (turn one heating knob the other syncs

4. full MFD colour display which shows sat nav, phone, audio, driving data etc.

5. nice touch screen for infotainment/satnav

6. better shoulder padding in seats

7. more space because of less intrusive central tunnel

As for the spec of my car it's very similar to the interior spec of an "R", same sports seats, same electronic goodies (I have spec'd mine to beyond "R"), same colour inside. I also have the LED DRL's & Bi-xenon's.

The 1series is not a BMW as such...............basically if you think of it as a Golf type hatch but with rear wheel drive & a big engine.......

personally I can't see the point unless you like paying for the badge & the extra insurance & running costs..........................."

You need to read your own posts. Only engine and RWD is better than your Golf, actually you said "the rest is not better", so in fact you might be saying the engine and RWD is only an equal of your Golf (in their own specific way this may be true). But to suggest that the M135 is no better than your Golf in terms of driving appeal is slightly bizarre, considering this is a car enthusiast forum. Actually you didn't suggest this, you said it, as it's a conclusion of the first sentence you wrote.

You post many differences of interior that "annoy" your mate, strong words for a few toys.

"The 1 series is not a proper BMW as such" I don't think I know where to start with this, but to quote you "WTF"

You believe that the only reasons to buy a BMW is if you like paying extra for a badge and extra insurance. Well you bought a Golf NOT a Skoda :dull: and as for the insurance, well that's just the rub of the cloth. The M135 is cheaper to insure than my Merc, so I'm happy with that.

Based on all this, make the point that your mate is dissatisfied by his M135 and make no mention of the fact he prefers the driving experience of the Golf R, something I could have understood, even if it wasn't my choice (Golf was number 2 on my list)

If you want to be pedantic.........well obviously........................

I'll rephrase to make it crystal clear for you as you seem to be misunderstanding the way I have worded the post.................

............M135i you are paying for the straight six engine (turbo-d) & the rearwheel drive. That's the appeal..............(bleeding obvious)..................

..........in my opinion & my mates (having seen the inside of my well speced MK7 Golf)...the interior in the M135i is not vastly superior to my Golf.............in fact I would have expected the M135i interior to be much better than my Golf as it's an "M" BMW!

P.S I did make a post in the other thread that my mate feels disappointed by his M135i...maybe again you forget to read?.............

As for cost......my Golf is cheaper to insure than the equivalent same spec Octavia as it's in a lower group even for the same spec engine output & interior trim!.......................

Back OT comparing M135i to Golf R for running costs.................

Golf R is VED band G for all 3 & 5 doors with or without DSG.........BMW M135i 3 & 5 door VED band H or J (gearbox dependant) so still cost more than Golf R

Golf R insurance group 34E ....................................BMW M135i is group 39................

Golf R cheaper on those costs................. :p

Want to continue..............?????......seriously?........... :dull:

On and on and on............

Depends on your favourite flavour of cake lol!

I wouldn't order x-drive even if it was available :-) The extra weight and loss of RWD dynamics wouldn't be my thing but I can appreciate its appeal to some.

Ah you are a "BMW has to be rwd & straight six" tradition guy....................

You won't like my other mate who has an old 5 series (89 year) four round headlamp (can't remember the designation)...............original with a straight six..............he's striping it down & installing a V8 from a 7 series................ :D

If you want to be pedantic.........well obviously........................

OK, but that is not what you said. Glad you see that the engine and RWD is appealing, you are correct on this at least

I don't expect the interior to be better in the M135, but there again, why not buy the Skoda and stop wasting your money on the VW badge on your car. Imho you are paying for a badge :D Also btw, the M135 is NOT an M car and even if it was, why would they give the car a bespoke interior that was different to the regular. As Tom pointed out, (in your Top Trumps) the BMW infotainment system is at least the equal of the R. but that is not why you buy these cars, well it's not why anyone I know buys these cars

P.S I did make a post in the other thread that my mate feels disappointed by his M135i...maybe again you forget to read?.............

Fine, I don't have a problem with that, he paid his money, bought one and has the right not to like it.

As for cost......my Golf is cheaper to insure than the equivalent same spec Octavia as it's in a lower group even for the same spec engine output & interior trim!.......................

Yes but it is vastly inferior in interior space :D So really you get more for your money in the Octy which offsets your miserly insurance saving (Top Trumps Golf vs Octy edition)

Running costs? That's the reason that your mate is changing? even though he can afford either car,. he will save a little on insurance and he doesn't like the interior and that's what's important to him (and you?) You are obsessed with comparing 3 different cars and only two of them compare directly. You stated that apart from the engine and RWD the BMW is not better than your car! In every way that matters to me, the M135 is a better car. If I wanted a reasonably priced, fun and sensible car, I'd buy the Skoda. I wouldn't waste my money on the VW badge It was you that brought your car into this. As for your friend, is he on one of the BMW forums? Most M135 owners seem to be.

I would recommend that no one should ever buy a car using a pack of Top Trumps, perhaps that's the error your friend made.

I bet you talk about horse power  a lot in pub conversations

I feel I need to clarify to others, I like the R it's a great car and I would be happy with one on my drive.

Yes but it is vastly inferior in interior space :D So really you get more for your money in the Octy which offsets your miserly insurance saving (Top Trumps Golf vs Octy edition)

Not bothered about the extra 4inches that the Octavia is over my Golf...............you might just like "bigger is better" but I prefer handling.............. my Golf has the same multi link rear suspension as the Golf GTI & R (also on standard -15mm sports suspension)....when I looked at the same spec engine in the Octavia it only came with the old beam/trailing arm suspension....................

Seriously I'm out............ this is stupid..................... :dull:
