Settling you agreement doesn't affect you, it affects the dealer. he loses his 'bung' and as he may be relying on that as he has given up all the discount available to get your business, he is then stuffed. Dealers don't go out of business all the time just because they are money grabbing cut throat barstweards.

I have to say that while there are many salespeople as described by jlwah, I was a car saleswoman once and I certainly don't believe I fitted into that category. Therefore it's safe to assume that are plenty of good salespeople out there. It's a bit hit and miss I grant you, but if you go in with the attitude that the salesperson you are dealing with is scum, you will no doubt be treated as one of those demented scummer customers in return.

  • Ok so here it is, side by side comparison of M-Perf and Stock M135i exhausts. A mate of mine owns the white car, the grey one is mine. :-)

hope you don't mind me posting all this guff in our thread Tom, but I got my car back from the detailers and the result is superb. Super shiny and ultra reflective. The coating has teeny flecks of gr

Spot on :) Having worked in the motor trade many years ago, I found out to my surprise that many new car deals don't make much money at all. Iirc the Nissan Micra was targeted at around £600 profit per car. Not a lot when you think of the infrastructure needed to support the deal

I thought there would be alot more in it than that, even on a Micra.

Hardly worth bothering with! Haha.

Yes, it surprised me at the time. it worked out at less than 10% on the retail price. Mind you, it doesn't stop a dealer trying to make more.

My dads always gone new car purchasing in his scruffy clothes. Reckons you can tell alot about a dealership/sales person by doing this.

Its surprising how many completely ignore you and go and offer the better dressed customers a coffee, even though hes got cash and usually knows exactly what he wants.

He reckons a good salesperson shouldnt judge a book by its cover and should treat everybody the same.

It happened again just the other weekend whilst looking to buy a mini. We left again without saying a word.

Edit: likewise, iv learnt from this that if i want to blagg a test drive, i must go dressed nicely. And that seems to work too! Aswel as the *******s i talk to get myself behind the wheel for 15 mins lol.

Yeah I noticed it when I was at Audi, the people with the RS6 and R8 models were in scruffy clothes and had cash but were ignored unlike the suits who were in finance agreements!

Its amazing really isnt it.

Its all abit of a game. He could buy whichever model he wanted really, he just doesnt like being treated differently be ause of the way hes dressed.

Hes an ex salesman (not cars though) so likes to do these things haha.

My ex who was 2 years older walked into an Audi dealers in London dressed scruffily with cash for an A1 they turned around and said no you're not having a test drive you obviously can't afford one! She did get out of an 01 Fiesta

Ahaha.

It works the opposite way around too though.

My mates got a fake rolex, nice suit and nice shoes just to go test driving in.

Hes driven all sorts.

I could learn alot off him really! Haha.

I might have to try that to test drive a. M135I

I was working at Bauer Millets in Manchester (American importers and used Rolls, BMW, Aston, Porche etc etc) when a tramp walked up to the window. I had seen him wandering all over Manchester for many years and had a sign conversation with him through the showroom window (It was a big walk to get round to the front of the building). He had quite a sense of humour :D I looked round to find the Owner standing behind me and waited for my *******ing. Except it didn't happen, instead the boss praised me for communicating with the chap outside and said that you can't judge a book etc. In a way that dealership proved the mantra more than most, as people in various states of 'neatness' turned up and could waste your time or pull out a £10K deposit in he blink of an eye.

Haha!

Sounds like your boss was a decent bloke.

I do tend to enter a dealers with the expectation to be told a load of rubbish anyway, if they do speak to me (i test drove a monte carlo fabia and was told its got a supercharger and a turbo once he'd told me id bought the wrong car by buying an SE. I hadnt, i just wanted something to do whilst i was waiting for it to be serviced haha).

Its nice when you get a nice, down to earth normal person though. Makes me feel more at ease and probably more likely to spend a few quid.

Deal with a lot of dealers around here as us "workers" have to swap the execs cars over and take them back to dealers when they get new ones

Had a mini-meet last night with some other M135i owners who live near me. We turned quite a few heads haha! The sight and sound of six M135i hooning along in convoy at full chat must have been quite something I'd imagine :-)

We need video with sound!!!!

I know, we missed a trick there! Would have loved to record all six starting up at once and done a driveby audio clip. Luckily we are all meeting again in November and audio will definitely be on the agenda then :-).

Bet these pics aren't doing anything to help stop your urge to buy one lol!

Stop it! :p

I'm tempted by one but still can't get my head around the looks. What's rear passenger space like?

I was out in town at around midnight the other day when an M135i did a few laps around a carpark. The guy was driving like a fool but it did sound very nice 8)

It's not amazing for space in the back but certainly better than the previous gen car. No need to cut your legs off tho! Lol

If they made the bonnet shorter so it looked like a normal car they could liberate some space in the back :p

Might have some difficulty fitting in a big, turbo' six then though!

Is that why the smaller BMWs have the weird out-of-proportion extra long bonnets? Am I right in thinking they have the engines the "wrong" way around too?

I think the long bonnet looks absolutely fantastic but then I would say that haha. Now ice got used to it the short bonnet on the Fabia looks daft to me ;-)

Doesn't it make pulling out of blind junctions really difficult though?

I actually don't mind these cars rearwards of the b-pillar, it's just the bonnet makes everything else look out of proportion.

Anyway, I guess it doesn't matter when you're sat in the drivers seat.

Not had any issues in mine with junctions but I know a mate of mine with a Z4 who finds it can be abit of a nightmare on that car.
