Picked up my M135i today- gentlemen get your Kleenex ready for some car porn...

Yeah that is very interesting indeed. Will be keen to hear some feedback on how that goes! I'm not sure it would make much difference for me when pressing on as I'm always in manual mode on the paddles for that type of driving. Might make for even smoother progress when cruising about in D tho?

one of my favourite roads, Kirkby Stephen, through Middleton in Teesdale and on to County Durham has lots of interconnected bends which currently trip my Merc Auto up if you leave it to it's own devices. And that is a car with 460lb/ft so it doesn't usually get caught in the wrong gear. If the BMW sorts out the auto changes better, then I will be convinced :)

No need to be sorry, you are entitled to your opinion :-)

I'm aware the looks aren't to everyone's taste (even though of course I think it's rather handsome), but it's the driving experience that really defines this car. The brutal acceleration, sweet RWD handling and lovely straight-six howl just put a massive grin on my face everytime I take it out.

Just got back from a blast down some twisty Cornish roads through the sunshine. Couple of windows down listening to that noise and lots of pops and crackles from the exhaust on the overrun..... Brilliant!

So has any other member got an order placed ,other than Amanda.

When are demos and showroom models available?

What are BMW Forum owners saying, many buying /replacing current model??

Collector purchase, as last of the straight 6 in the 1 series ? Or do you get Xdrive or wait for the FWD.

Edited by vrskeith

Quite a lot of orders gone in over on the Babybeemer forum :) The launch date is the 28th so I am guessing we wont see the facelift until then although at least one dealer has a M135 already. I like the new look of the lights, but find the rest of the front overly fussy and aggressive (a bit like the way Audi often goes about things ) and the back end is quite smart, but it's lost that typical rear taillight look that the 1 series has always had :( I don't think many will replace just for the minor enhancements, it wouldn't make financial sense and unfortunately the X drive won't be coming over here, at least in RHD form :(

Funnily enough, one of the magazine reviews more or less suggested it was a 'get em while you can' situation for this model, but at least there is the potentially very silly M2 to look forward too and quite possibly the M140 (based on the next gen shorter stroke engine) before the model is finally killed off because of the silly current 1 series owners, who though the car was front drive anyway :D :( "Vive la dinosaur" I say, at least as long as it's a fast, classic Vroomisaurus type

Don't think demos or showroom cars arriving for another couple of weeks yet. The car has been announced but no actual dealer "launch" yet as far as I'm aware.

Not all that many bmw forum members making the change for the LCI at the moment. Everyone loves the pre-facelift! Might be a few more punters go for it once we start seeing them in the flesh I suspect.

I'd be tempted with one as you say to enjoy one before the RWD straight six goes from the 1er.

Not sure yet if x-drive actually coming to the UK or not this time. I suspect not. Most members on the bmw forums are very anti x-drive.

Would be interesting to hear what PX values will be offered by BMW dealers, for current m135i, against a Face lifted one of similar spec.

I believe Amanda mentioned that 11% discount is possible, not sure what deal parameters enable that.( TRADE-IN,PCP etc.)

Discounts are pretty much in line with R I believe and so the residuals should be broadly similar too (unless you spec the car to high heaven, as I suspect you could build a near £50K car if you really tried very hard). It's hard to say though, as in 3 years time, we will be at the end of an era for the 1er so values might firm up, or fall away. Who knows. Funnily enough my 3.0V6 diesel Merc has just started to firm up in value and has actually gone up a tiny bit in the last couple of months. Possibly because there is no direct replacement in the new C class. No big multi cylinder diesels any more :( Hopefully BMW, Audi and Jaguar will continue to keep making them :)

So it's possible that in a similar way to the previous 1M, the M135 might become a little more sort after, once they finally put it to bed. or people may say, thank goodness those lairy, little, hairy chested cars have gone and we now have wonderful smart Euroboxes? (well that's my take on the 2 series tourer and it's kin).

Btw I think the Brokers are now starting to offer some very serious deals on new 1ers. prices look good

The A45 is a beast and I can't imagine how manic the updated version with more power will be, when it comes out later this year. Cross country blasts in the A45 are simply astonishing (as is the price of one) and I can't think of many cars that could keep up with one. I imagine that the mighty GTR would struggle in many conditions against one.

I believe that the X Drive BMWs would be a way for me to be able to drive fast cars for a little longer, as I approach my dotage. I've driven and owned several different types of 4x4 and found in general, the permanent ones are more predictable, while the switching clutch type are more efficient. My Scoobys were very easy to drive quickly and a lot of fun, but I am prepared to make the sacrifice of the M135 being harder to drive quickly, but I am hoping it will be more rewarding as well as a lot more economical. Scoobys have a terrible thirst for a small engine. Plus it (M135) does sound better and not quite as 'in your face' as the Roobydoo. An RS4/5 would be very nice though, if only I could find a man rich enough to buy me one :D

I do like the look of the new TTS though and it even has a decent sized boot nowadays. Bet the RS will be epic.

Go on Tom you know you want to -it's a natural progression !http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwdrj0cuAwo

I am amazed the x drive runs the A45 so close when you consider it's giving away around 30bhp and is a little heavier I think. Probably something to do with the bigger engine having more 'area under the graph line' than the Merc? I've seen some vids of the RWD M135 really giving the A45 stick and yet there is one where the A3 hammers the BMW as it was done on a dusty track. It's a lottery, but it's one that I want to buy a ticket for (I'm sounding more like Alan Partridge every day :D )

Tom,I know it is a phenomenal car.And I am more than jealous. This is a very honest post.TBH I reckon its the best hot hatch out their by a country mile. Just do not like the body shape (despite being a fan of sleepers! Lol)

Enjoy.Bet its cracking :-)

Not for me then Tom/Amanda ,as I can't fit my sons and daughter in, when we go off to see the Arsenal!

just been reading that one, we must 'scope' out the interweb on all the same sites :D

Luckily size doesn't matter for me

I'm only 5'10" & find the rear seats/space very squashed.................& I thought my MKI Fabia was small!............... :o

What gets me about this is it's basically a rwd car, two person, carp luggage space, for fine weather (some people having other cars for foul weather)... :p ...........why not go the whole hog & get a Z4?????.....at least that's got a legit reason for carp luggage space/seating because it has the added bonus of a folding top for fine weather!!......... :sun: ..........If I had to get a second car with those "restrictions" I'd far rather have a convertible! other than that my car has to be a jack of all trades!......... B) .

First time I've seen a woman put it in writing,... .....& didn't you state a reason against the Golf was "it only has a 4cyl", where as the M135I has a straight 6!...

See, bloody women say one thing then change their minds because they mean something else.................. :p ................ :x ....................

Ah but quality does matter to me :p

Btw I drive my RWD cars in all weathers bar snow. I like powerful RWD cars and not being great in snow is a small price to pay (although winter tyres would make a difference if I wasn't going into such remote areas and find that a small 4x4 with decent ground clearance is useful))

Of all the 1ers, the M135 is the least changed, especially as cars like Toms (At least I think Toms is included) already have the upgraded engine. BMW typically do these incremental changes without announcing much about them. Although strangely one of the Aussie magazines thinks the car has modified suspension?? Don't believe that's true though.

I'm pleased they haven't mucked about with the car, as I wouldn't want a sanitised reinvention. Mind you if it had morphed into an M1 or M2 I wouldn't have complained.

Btw that post Keith, confirms we use the same websites :D

Amanda,

My gut feel tells me, you may have got " much more cheapness"(George's phrase) had you held off for say 6 months -what do you think?

I know you said you had achieved 11% discount but that still makes it approx.£29k- £30k with auto box and some add-ons. Plus PCP interest.

WOW http://mybmw.co.uk/b4d3p0b5 That's £33k with 11% discount.see spec-auto box and 5 dr.

Keith I don't want to fall out over this, but I didn't want a Golf type R. Great car that it is, I wanted the last of the small RWD hyperhatches, I will have to go back to FWD in the future no doubt, as my options become smaller in this area, but I am resisting until I have to.. As it turns out I achieved a little over 11% discount, which, considering was nearly 2 months before the launch of the car, was quite reasonable, and I also have deals in place for GAP and the Service contract which are also worth another nice chunk. Also the GFV on the LCi model isn't too bad (perhaps because it's the facelift) so monthly payments are quite reasonable (got a decent rate too ). I realise that I could have gone for a second-hand M3, but I would not be able to afford to run it. Also the monthly payments on reasonably young second-hand cars are nearly always more than on a new car. Anyone negotiating a deal on the M135 today will quite possibly get a better deal, but this would be the case in all cars (especially the Golf R looking at the deals available)

The only cars I have owned that made decent equity on PCPs are my current Merc and my previous BMW. My Audi A4 3.0 tdi, VW Golf GT Tdi and Skoda Octavia were all a bit rubbish in this respect and my SEAT Toledo was in so much negative equity I used voluntary termination (proof the PCPs can protect you).

I wanted a new car with a full warranty for peace of mind. I wanted decent manageable monthly payments. I wanted a car that gave me fun, but also required a bit more effort to get the best out of it. I wanted a fast car (with RWD if possible) to maximise my fun. I think I pretty much nailed it with the M135i. Only wish the boot was a 100 litre bigger :( I do have a proper full time 4x4 for those days when the BMW will be too compromised to use, but that's something I've had on and off for many years.

Sorry Amanda, think you got the wrong end of the stick.

I was just comparing base price with the affect of spec up (configuration) and comparison against demo / used older model/ spec.

Not interested in wasting time trying to convince you about the R .

Long past that.

Enjoy your M135i when it arrives.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!
