What a difference! - suspension upgrade

Featured Replies

Thanks to Unit18, a H&R kit, and a Whiteline RARB, I now have a vRS which goes round corners like a 200BHP car should!

Before the upgrade it was wallowing like a boat.  Now, body roll is massively reduced, and it doesn't do a Tigger impression over bumps.

I'm very pleased:)

What sort of price did you pay for the H&R kit before fitting?

And what kit did you go for? 50mm drop all round?

I got them slightly used from a fellow Briskodian, so less than full price ;)

Originally, I was just going to replace just the springs, but then the offer of the full kit came up so I went for it.

35mm all round - see above post for the reason why (I got them used).

I was thinking of going 50mm, but wasn't sure about the practicality for a family car (we on occasion go 5 up + dog + massive roofbox!)

Sounds good! So you've got approx 15-20mm drop?

Visually, I would estimate around that - it looks noticeably lower that before.

I measured the 'before' height of the arches- will measure the 'after' tomorrow.

Cool. Ok deciding between h and r or a b12 kit atm

good move... I haven't regretted getting the suspension mods done on mine which I had done it earlier!

Springs & rear Swaybar - tis the best suspension combo!!

Really transforms the car!!

Some pics please when you get chance :)

Glad you like them! I'm onto my 4th suspension set up now!! H&R 50mm springs and Bilstein Dampers hopefully being put on today. Let's see some pics then!!

Great choice! That's what I am currently running. Next to the stage 1 map; this is the best mod you can do to the vRS.

I'll get some pics up when the rain stops :)

I measured the drop this morning:

Before - Front 675mm, Rear 675mm

After - Front 655mm, Rear 660mm

So, I got a 15 to 20mm drop.  On paper it is not much, but somehow looks more!  My overall impression is that the car now looks like how a vRS should look.  It does not look dropped, or non-standard, just how it should be out of the factory!

If you are aiming for the 'dropped' look, then you will probably need to go for the 50mm version (at least).

But, in terms of ride quality and handling, it is a world of difference.  Having had both the suspension and rarb replaced at the same time, I can't objectively say which helped the most, but together they work great!

4th !!  I hope the latest one will work well for you - should be a good set up.

Get a RARB as well :)

Hmmm, stage 1.  Sounds tempting.  Once I get over the shock paying for suspension, rarb, 4 tyres, mot and road tax then I may go for it.

Do you have TSi?  Where did you get it done, and how much of a difference did it make?

dont forget to get it all properly aligned after a couple of weeks too!

I have the TFSI vRS. Stage 1 took me to 243 bhp; although it doesn't sound like a huge headline figure it totally transformed the car from a warm hatchback to a hot-hatch! On a trial run with a data box the car recorded 6.3 seconds 0-60 (standard is 7.1 seconds). With the increased boost you can't help but enjoy it! It made the car much easier to drive with 271 lb/ft of torque on tap!

My map was done by Angel Tuning.

Only a dodgy mobile picture, but this should give an idea of the drop.  As i said, it is not much lower, but to me looks like it should have been if Skoda had designed the suspension properly!

Feels brilliant. Nice ride and less roll! :)

Lovely colour that mate. I went for the 30mm pi springs ( 50mm h+r equivelent) on my estate and never have issues when fully loaded

Grey was my second choice.I really wanted black but couldn't find a good one with all the options.  So, I sacrificed colour to get loads of extras :)  And now I'm quite glad I did!

I was thinking of the 50mm Pi, but then the offer of the H&R kit came up, so thought I would go for the whole kit, even if the drop is not so noticeable.

I've had the kit on for a couple of weeks now, and I am still very impressed with it.  The handling is very good, I would say on par with, or maybe even better than my Alfa 156 was (and that was a car which really inspired confidence on the bends).
