  • Surely the sound generator adds a couple of extra sly HP? [emoji1]

  • Surely if there is extra load on the alternator with the additional swivel on the lights and the sound generator the effective bhp will actually be reduced in sports mode?   Only kidding

Same for both, just in Sport mode the throttle map is more aggressive and the gearbox (if DSG) shifts higher into the rev band.

Also the steering is sharpened and bi-xenon headlights steer into corners.

Would have been nice if Sport gave some extra torque/bhp and Eco dropped the power to save fuel. I tend to keep mine in Normal mode 99% of the time because the sound generator sounds to loud/false within Sport.

Also the power steering assistance is reduced ........

Corrected.

Is this for real?

The change in the throttle response does everything you want a change in torque/bhp to do, and it's a lot easier to achieve than remapping the engine every time you change modes.

As for the sound generator, I'm beginning to rather like it - yes, it sounds false, but it sounds good false... it gives the car a real nice growl when you give the accelerator a poke.

Only kidding :)

:-)

I have deliberately ordered my VRS tsi without the Performance Mode Selection option since I would rather hear the engine and exhaust than the fake rattle sent up through the windscreen. However I would have liked the ability to make the steering firmer as it is in sports mode. Perhaps it can be coded using VCDS. Also if I wanted ECO mode I would have ordered another vehicle :-) So no VRS mode button for me.

No, order it with the driving mode selection and then disable the sound generator with VCDS!

The option cost £385 in Denmark.

Worth it for the enhanced throttle response and increased steering weight, as well as the extra swivel on the AFS.

I have to disagree with this. 100% throttle within all 3 modes provides exactly the same shove. All Sport mode seems to do is reduce how far you have to press the accelerator pedal to achieve the same performance. Eco mode feels a bit limp unless you push it most of the way, normal mode feels normal and sport feels too jittery for my liking. The most progressive mode is normal, which alos feels most similar to using a traditional throttle cable.

The light steer into corners works if the light switch is turned to Auto in any driving mode you select. Put the light switch manually to Dipped beam and they wont steer into corners.

Not in Eco :)

And you get either a wider swivel range or increased sensitivity in Sport mode than normal - makes passengers feel travel sick .........

Ok, I'll mark my self 8/10 for effort    :notme:

Still in normal the fly by wires throttle has a little lag that is very unlike a traditional throttle cable nothing, a Pedalbox won't sort though.

'Jittery' is a good description IMHO. I have to pull away from rest in 2nd in sport because I can't summon up the accelerator finesse to do it in 1st without the thing jumping forward like someone on their first driving lesson.

I keep it in normal most of the time. Never had it in eco.

I found my 1.8 mk2 slipping around if I tried quick pull away in all but very dry roads. Could have been tyres. But as more power with mk3 vrs tsi. Went for dsg. No problems.

Due to me rarely driving the car it spends most of its time in ECO under command of the long haired General. When I do drive it, if it's around town then ECO it is and 1st gear is dispatched within 7m distance. 1st gear is virtually pointless due to its shortness however the owners manual does say to shift out of 1st after travelling the length of the car / 1 car length!! It works and aids smoother 1st to 2nd changes.

ECO doesn't make any diff to my MPG, I am pretty sure it gives me exactly what normal would 90% of the time. Sport, due to rarely being in the car on my own (& therefore being able to hoon it) I have no use for it. 1st gear is hard to use when gunning it as you have to wait an eternity to shift into 2nd when the revs eventually match road speed /gearbox rotation. This is where the DSG has it nailed, however if I wanted a quick revving engine I wouldn't have specced an oil burner!!

As mentioned above, after initially being disappointed with its MPG it is slowly improving if not quite there yet.

Mines a CR150, not vRS but have tried all modes for extended periods and conclusion is that I leave it in Sport as best throttle and steering response. Mpg is actually worse in Eco for me which I put down to extended acceleration times, especially on motorways, long term mpg still rising since started using Sport mode all the time so getting best performance out of engine response at all times with no compromise on economy. I've covered 30,000 miles now and reckon its still loosening up.

Sport mode is lacking something. Initial throttle response is more urgent for sure but mid range acceleration seems a bit strained, also I don't personally like how the last half of the accelerator pedal feels dead when in that mode.

Normal provides the best response in my mind as you get a bit of lag with the torque swell reminiscent of a PD then a nice strong power band up to 4k...and nicer modulation throughout the pedal travel. I use individual mode, steering sport, throttle normal, ac profile eco. Whenever I change to sport to give it a chance I'm always disappointed so change straight back.

150 TDI manual Elegance estate by the way.

Being able to turn the stupid boy racer noise off was worth the money for VCDS all on its own, let alone all the other tweaks. Personally I think the *real* engine noise in sport mode when you hoof it is far nicer anyway, and now when cruising in sport mode the car dooesn't sound like someone is shaking a tin of bolts under the bonnet. Refined *and* fast - much nicer :D

Yup, agreed. I got the sound generator set to 0% volume at the dealers the day I picked it up. I shake my head at that addition to the car, but even more at not being able to turn it down or off via the infotainment.

I LIKE THE SOUND GENERATOR IN MY VRS AND DONT THINK IT IS OVER THE TOP AT ALL  :)
