  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

Not quite.

When I took the battery out of its temporary home in the engine bay and moved the fuse box, I didn't reconnect the alternator wire. The wire had fallen down and was fortunately dangling bellow the engine and wasn't touching any metal! I suspect fire could have been involved if it were touching the gearbox :(

Well it turns out the dam thing isn't long enough anyway to reach the fuse box now its mounted on the strut, replacement wire & crimps ordered. Took the opportunity to remove the aircon plugs that were wrapped up with it too.

Finally things are taking shape inside... got the loom all tidied away, wrapped and secured ready for the dash to go back in. Contemplating having the dash flocked, though to be fair its not the dash its self but all the lower plastics that would benefit the most from flocking. Mine are all a horrible light grey colour.

The Ibiza had one of these:

Mounted in the centre of the dash. I believe its a sun sensor, but whats it for? Climate? Auto lights?

Climate I think same as the Jag one

Good, I'll ditch that one then :)

Just the headlining to butcher for the volumetric alarm sensors, volumetric disable switch, and somewhere for the TCS.

A few more pieces of the puzzle arrived:

And a cable for the alternator but no crimps yet.

Should be a productive weekend, hope to get the suspension on, lights in and bumper on so I can figure out what I can do to hide the boost pipes.

Suspension on.

HEL brake lines on.

Drop links on.

ARB bushes on.

Rear discs on.

Happy with the decision to go for coilovers, with the rears all the way up and the fronts a few cm down it sits about how I'd like it, with a slight forward rake.

Whoever at VAG designed the placement for the hardpipe > flex on the drivers side rear (sandwiched between the fuel tank, rear beam and the chassis) needs to spend the rest of their lives on a dirty garage floor, changing the flexies on 13year old cars.... what a stupid place to put it. Very little wiggle room, very very awkward to get to even with small hands. I just hope its on right as I did it by feel only.

So I now have working suspension, a working engine and some working electrics. I think I'll test the rest of the latter tomorrow if I have time, Celica needs a new wheel bearing to replace the 4month old one :(

They were cheapies :(

At least this time the brake guard won't be rusted solid to the hub so it shouldn't take long.

May have an interesting development on the Celica front... just waiting to confirm :)

Going back to this... I'm about to order some audio kit (nothing exciting, mechless head unit that can play FLACs and some components for the front), but my speaker holes in the rear look like they need these:

Anyone know the size? Are they a special size or are there aftermarket ones available? Adapters to standard sizes?

Looks like the stag ones, I'll have a check in my book

Aren't they 6x4?

Looks about right. I threw all the boot plastics in the spare office at work so can't measure up.

Updated cost spreadsheet. Cried. Ordered more parts to make myself feel better.

Not much particularly exciting... spent quite a lot of time swapping plugs from the Fabia loom to the Ibiza loom. Random stuff is plug'n'play (e.g. headlight+fog switch) while other bits are not (e.g. headlights). Dashboard mostly in now and most things are working :)

Edit... list of things to do (more for me than you guys :p Need to not forget some of these!):

Breather/catch can clamps
DV clamps
Bumper
Intake brackets
Starter/alternator wire
Alternator signal wire
Mount temp sensor
Intake clamps
Rough alignment
Clutch bleed
Brakes - EVERYTHING
Brake light test
Airbag resistors
Seatbelt resistors
Mount breaker
Reversing light switch
Reversing light test
Passenger door wires
Stereo/speakers
Washer pump
Rear washer pipe
Check subframe bolts
Strut bolts
Front wipers
Evap resistor (the one you dropped in the engine bay!)
Waxyol underbody
Arch liners
Blowing(?) exhaust
Gear shift test
Alarm sensors
Courtesy light mount
Cig lighters/dashcam/satnav power
Test CL/door locking/remote
Siren mount
Coolant Leak?
Dual Fogs

Just get on with it man

Just get on with it man

That's the plan!

I find myself staring thinking which bit shall I do next... this way I can just pick them from the list and not have to think about it :P

Lots of time off this month/next month as I have half a years worth of holidays to use before April, plan to get it on the road for Easter weekend :)

And hopefully to Combe!? :D

I'll be there unless it dies trying :) Now where did I put that AA card...

Have you booked into Combe yet?

Last time I looked there were only two spots left for track time...
