Dan's 20v 1.8T Fabia Estate

Featured Replies

Weitecs are nice too, worth a consideration anyway.

No longer made I think.

Your car had the last set.

That's what I was told when I ordred anyway, they had to check there was a box of them left.

AP's cheaper.

  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

But would you?

But would you?

Having had APs I think they are fantastic for the money.  Fit and forget, no fancy settings to mess up.

If you want to go better you are going to have to spend noticably more.

For road and the odd track day I don't think you can go wrong IMO.

Both Taylor's and Gee Man's VRSs run APs and were fine at Brands Hatch.

As was Taylor's at Combe last September, his car drives very well.

Yours will have less front end ballast too.

On a track toy I'd fit KWv3s, but for general use I'd fit APs which are a third of the cost.

My aps are fantastic..  cant fault them.    Easy to adjust too..   went to the coast this weekend with the wife and kids, car loaded with xmas stuff and i could hear the arb hitting drive shaft...  took me less than 10 mins to raise it a bit and i didnt even have to take the wheels off. :)

great progress on your car as well :)

I'll 3rd AP's been on a few 1000 miles now and im still impressed!

Very good value for money. Very good bit of kit

In the same situation as Dan , I want to change mine and have looked at the PB items but like everyone has said the AP's are good value for money. I have the AP's dampers and springs on mine atm and are good for what they are but require something a little firmer for track days

My kw shocks and springs are pretty firm, but not uncomfortable on the road :)

This site is working in reverse... you're supposed to be encouraging the poster to buy the more expensive kit  B)

Still fancy the B14s as they are stainless

Oh and you're all too polite to point out the cooler is wonky? I know and plan to correct it later  :giggle:

Its alive! Bwhahah...

Even after fitting the loom it still wouldn't fire. So I did the usual tests... hmm no fuel.

Well turns out the monkeys that knacked up the fuel lines connecting to the pump (connectors broke... need new ones for it to be 100%) had also connected the lines on to the filter back to front, so when I swapped the pump housing, aligned it correctly, and connected up the hoses the right way around it stopped the fuel getting to the engine.

Only fired it up for a second as there is no coolant in it, the fuel return is currently the charcoal canister (that's going in the bin and I'll nick the line for the return to the tank and ditch the filter with regulator built in) and there is no air filter.

One step closer. Sadly doesn't leave me with much to do tomorrow, need to order more parts to fix the fuel system and intake then I'll be able to run it properly :)

Electric boot release?

Electric boot release?

Thought so. The Ibiza had one too, but it was in the rear door rather than on the body... looks like I've got some wiring to do.

Convert it to a manual one? Less to go wrong

Its already got a manual override connected to lever near the drivers seat, so yeah, if lazyness takes over that's an option :) My key has a boot open button though and it would annoy me if it didn't do anything.

Anyone know what speakers I'd need to put in the rear? They are fairly small and oval shaped to fit in to the plastics near the boot side windows. May as well have some as I have the wires for it.

Electric boot's are always nice to have.

There are some genuine skoda blaupunkt rear speakers you can get for the rear of the Fabia

Mine wasn't, washer fluid leaked over connector corroding it and causing intermittent failure

Also means that you can open the tailgate without going in the car. My vRS doesnt have a boot release cable leaver near the fuel filler leaver. so either you press the electronic release on the remote, the electronic button on the tailgate, or get inside and press the orange release leaver :D

Jacks Fabia may have been a classic without Electric C/L so it may have been missing, Also found it on the FGF's when we swapped a good tailgate from a classic without ECL (practically no wiring in the tailgate) with a dented tailgate from a comfort spec with ECL

None the less, good work Dan, Im looking forward to getting in and wiring up the FGF (albeit from scratch)

Nope mine had an option of electric tail gate, electric windows, electric sunroof, electric CD player so it's all there on mine still

I must say if I ever needed a pure work horse of a car and didn't care for looks or performance I would be going for a mk1 fabia estate.

So much space for extra activities! lol

I can't remember was there a reason why you chose an estate over the hatchback?

Different and it popped up cheap in his area iirc

I was 80% set on an estate if it were to be a Fabia as its something different, adds to the stealth and is practical without its size making it impractical like say, an Octavia would be for me.

Not meaning to cause offense to anyone but Fabia's ain't much to look at in any guise... but I've always been function over form (except for the odd relapse which generally ended up costing me in one way or another).

tbh I like the look of the Fabia hatch, not so much the Estate, but as you said, Function over Form.

Likewise my Alfa 156 which IMO looked great, cost me alot of money hahah

The main question is : Was it a good outdoor sofa?
