Was thinking about buying a yeti but......

The Kia is a nice motor but I personally would rather have a yeti. Have a strange urge to get a 4x4 TDI 170 and remap it :-)

  • Sorry folks i've been really busy at work and family matters so haven't had much time to do much, anyway after owning the sporty for a couple of week i must say i love it, really good mpg for a wagon

  • Yep the Yeti folks don't like the slightest bit of criticism  aimed at the Yet no matter how well founded.

  • Fine, but if you post on a one make forum of one of the competitors don't expect everyone to faun at your feet.   There might be some fine reviews on YouTube, but there are also lots of complaints o

Do it properly and make a 340bhp Diesel Yeti

Quite like the glass back on the up :)

Pretty much any diamond cut wheels seem to suffer from white worm, regardless of the manufacturer.

Yes I'm very aware of this..... My point was specific to the car in question that if was the only problem he had with it.

Ah, but still heavier & slower (9.4s vs 8.4s 0-60) than the 170 ;)

They do say that about Yeti Owners.

'They get there too soon'

but then that is really only if they get there..

But we really would need to time them, and see if it is all of 1 second.

I quite like the KIA and with the new looks of the FL Yeti  I'm not sure which I'd choose.

If they were still making the pre-FL I'd go for that as I'm one of the odd balls that really likes it.

I suspect if that was my only car I'd be swayed by the fact that KIA have offered us a massive discount and free metalic paint on top, making it noticably cheaper than the Yeti.

I'm not so fussed on the Kia SUVs but I like the Santa Fe, but part of the reason for getting the Yeti was to get something smaller and more manoeuvrable than my old Octy I. Getting the big Hyundai would be hard to justify on that basis! Plus I don't suppose it would have the fun factor of the Yeti.

It doesn't, but it still drives quite well.

I've not read every post on here, but Kia's are ok. Good value and 7 year warranty for added piece of mind, claim making a claim with any car it's down to the dealer, some are great some are bad.

My neighbour has a new Kia, she didn't like the Yeti despite her father having one and thinking it was very good. I've sat in in and it's not a bad place to be in, not driven it, but I'm sure it's improved since I last test drove a Kia.

I'd also guess that it suffers from what a lot of everyday motor's from Asia suffer from which is the PlayStation driving experience, Honda, Toyota, Kia etc all have the same feel, but that's just my personal experience.

Reliability, well from my neighbour  it's so far ok apart from the screen cracking over night for no reason, now I'm not suggesting it's a common problem but the dealer argued this is not a warranty job even though there was no stone chip anywhere on the screen, and she had to wait for the screen on back order due to a sudden drop in stock levels.

Anyway I'm sure you will enjoy the Kia and have many safe and reliable miles in it!

I had been thinking of suggesting Mitsubishi ASX? but it seems they are 2wd only??

8yr warranty... and look pretty alright, if maybe a tad under powered on both engines listed.

Shame, as i think its one of the better looking soft roaders..

ASX is available in 2wd and 4th. 1.6 petrol is 2wd only. 1.8 diesel is available in both 2wd and 4wd.

That should read 2wd AND 4wd.

hmm.. have to do some more googleing then, as the ASX spec sheet from the irish site only had them both as 2wd.

I quite liked the  look of the ASX too. Gets reasonable reviews and fuel economy is ok too.

For the diesel service intervals is 1yr or 9000 miles which means 2 services a year for me which is a downside. Although there is a long standing Mitsubishi dealer nearby.

and to be fair, Mitsu's are fairly well bolted together....

bit of general maintenance and they seem to go and go...

We had an L200 at work and and it put up with being driven by Tony very well.  The replacement Hilux is just in for it's 3rd clutch by comparison.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just stumbled on this thread Mark - i hadn't realised you had changed car.

Very interesting cars and one that i looked at for SWMBO.

Bay alas - she just wasnt swayed on the moved to this type of 4x4.

I hope the Kia does you proud mate. Keep us posted on how it performs

PS: Hope you hang around the forum too mate - we are missing your sense of humour  ;)

Thanks for that reminder.

An update is much overdue.
