Mobius Camera Capacitor Upgrade

Featured Replies

So, my Blackvue just died and upon opening it, I found that the LIPO battery in it had swollen to fill the casing and as you can't get direct replacements (and for other reasons), I have replaced it with a Mobius camera. I found that there is an upgrade kit to replace the battery in the Mobius with a supercapacitor, which eliminates this entire issue and stops it overheating.

So if your Mobius is running hot and shutting down or you are concerned about the LIPO battery exploding, this is for you.

I got a kit from here: http://www.minidvcameras.co.uk/viewitem.php?productid=80 and it cost a fiver, plus shipping.

Installation was really simple.

1. Unscrew the case and pop it apart

2. Unplug battery

3. Carefully scrape the LIPO off the lid

4. Stick supercap pack in its place

5. Connect to main board

6. Refit lid

7. Then you need to make sure the camera is set to stop recording immediately when power is removed or it will just drain the cap meaning it will corrupt the file and you will lose date/time.

Under normal use, its supposed to last a few days without power. I will see how that plays out.

I will start another thread if I can use the same cap pack (since I bought several at once) to resurrect my Blackvue, since both use 3.7v LIPOs.
