Featured Replies

dont use many apps as tend to prefer fb etc in Chrome Browser.  Anyhow, busy doing a factory reset to see if that helps.

  • Motorola have confirmed v1/2 Moto G and X will get the update in time for Christmas. Samsung have surprisingly said that the S3 will get it, but not until early next year. S4 & 5 should have it

Have lollipop on my S4 and can't hear people on calls and they cannot hear me..... Hardware wise it's all working as I can make calls with viber etc fine. Tried everything I can find online and nothing is working for it at all. Phone has been perfect until now and eerything else works perfectly after the update.

Then you must have an app causing it. Facebook is the usual candidate, along with other social media apps constantly checking for updates every nanosecond.

If I have Facebook running it struggles. Without it I have zero lag.

I've also removed FB and its messenger app. But did this at the same time as the 5.1 patch so not sure which has made the improvement.

If anyone is looking at Wintabs MCS have a 10% deal on their Dell Venue 11 PRos.

Well tonight is a different story.

I can boot it, and it hangs doing something. It's chewing battery whatever it is.

Can you not see stats of battery usage to find out what's doing it?

Battery stats were missing for the period.

It seems to have a Google play services update whilst it was updating some apps as saw play services errors and loads of update finished messages.

Took about 30 mins, but back to normal again.

Just downloaded 5.1 on my Nexus 7, and it now flies along. All the lag has completely gone!

If you lost faith in your nexus 7, I recommend checking for the update and installing it.

I found this as well, I wouldn't say it's completely gone, but it's A LOT more usable than 5.0, or probably even 4.4.

Just downloaded 5.1 on the Nexus today so I shall see if the bugs have gone.

Regards Chris

Still waiting on EE to release it for locked phones - always the last to do it (probably to give them time to develop the crapware to go on it)

still no sign of it for my unlocked LG G2

Crashed hard last night. Thought I was going to have to pop the battery at one point.

Came back up and was quite laggy.

Lots of updates  since 5.1 went on I guess some of them are FUBAR.

Notice I still have FB on it, so the performance increase is just from the update. I've not cleared the cache yet to see if that helps things even more.

Boot time after the crash was much faster than with 5.0 but still embarrassingly slow compared to the cheap Wintab I had for a bit.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have been using android lollipop 5.0.2 on my Xperia Z3 for around three weeks now and it has been flawless so far. Even the facebook app works great.

Sony just released Lollipop for the wifes Experia Z3 compact, and loaded it last night. She seems fairly pleased with it.

Still sitting waiting for EE to release it - they have released a build for the S4 but not for my particular handset. Probably going to upgrade the phone(upgrade available at start of June) before they release it at this rate.

I got it on my S4.... killed my messages so have to use hangouts, but its quite nice, if a bit simple looking. its a bit 'my first android phone' in appearance if you know what i mean.

My Xperia Z3 updated to wowippop today. Seems OK on initial testing.

I can finally move things to sd card now so easing pressure on the internal memory by putting copilot map on the card.

I still have issues with it on my S4, regularly starts up and has no screen, no widgets, apps etc, just a blank screen, so have to restart at least once to get it to work properly, and restarts are very protracted.

I'm getting the urge to dump android & go to "THE DARK SIDE" and get an iPhone....

Nooooooooooooo!

Personally I havent been impressed with the S4 since the day I had it. I dont blamd Android, I blame Galaxy. The S2 was the best phone I have ever had. The OH's S4 Mini is a nice phone, though it needs an indicator light.

Might go LG next time.....

I'm going to try and persevere until the new LG G4 & Xperia Z4 appears.

If neither satisfy then it's a case of paying £600+ for a 128Gb iPhone.

Sounds like a dodgy install or handset. I would try reinstalling the firmware or returning the phone if it under contract. (the 4.4.2 update broke mine but was replaced by EE with no issues)

Think the main issue I have had with the S4 is the amount of samsung stuff loaded on it - once those have been disabled (as far as possible) the phone gets better and quicker.

Not tempted by the S6 as opposed to the Iphone? I am.

No. The S6 is a poor choice of mobile.

It's well known that the battery life is significantly worse than the S5 and the lack of memory expansion slot is also seen by many potential purchasers as another retrograde step.

Then add those two to the astronomical price of a sim free handset and the S6 starts looking like an expensive and poor proposition. I never have a phone on a contract, the railway & its operators aren't good employers, they'll have you out for the simplest of things if they can.

So a rolling 30 day contract and the purchase of the handset outright is the way to go and that's been confirmed by MSE Martin Lewis. Who's worked it out that by having a handset on a 18-24 month contract is actually the equivalent of having it on a loan with an APR of over 40%!

Has Samsung released the update for the unbranded S3's yet?

Unlikely to ever get lollipop 5.0 in any variety as it is over 2 years old (which is the limit for google distributing new versions IIRC)

Older devices from other brands are getting it.

It's down to each manufacturer

Samsung have in the past limited it to 2 years
