Lollipop is coming (Android 5.0)

Featured Replies

Been using lollipop fine the past week, but tonight when I put my pin in, I see the homescreen for about 2 seconds, then its crashing back to ask me for my pin again.  Just keeps doing it over and over.  Tried restarting phone - the same.  Not sure if software or hardware fault.  Apps still running, notifications still popping up and still charging.  Just for some reason it won't stay unlocked and let me use the phone.  :(

  • Motorola have confirmed v1/2 Moto G and X will get the update in time for Christmas. Samsung have surprisingly said that the S3 will get it, but not until early next year. S4 & 5 should have it

I got 5.1 for my 2012 Nexus 7, it goes faster but crashes more than ever. Not sure what Google are playing at.

Well, my phone is currently a brick really.  I can take phone calls despite it being locked.

Just been to EE shop in town - he suggested trying to connect to the computer whilst in safe mode and see if Sony Companion sees it.

Have it on my Sony S2, no issues since updating to Lollipop, just having to get used to the changes

Currently going through update / repair process on sony PC companion.  [fingers crossed]

No update available for my Z1 Compact yet.

How are you guys getting yours?

Mine updated at work, and just done factory reset getting update through Sony PC Companion program. :)

OK, I'll take a look on PC companion when the opportunity arises. Ta.

Wifi from Sony

Got my update yesterday via PC companion.

Unlikely to ever get lollipop 5.0 in any variety as it is over 2 years old (which is the limit for google distributing new versions IIRC)

Thats a crying shame because my S3 is virtually unuable as it is.

5.1.1 rolling out to nexus devices in the next 10-14 days

Numerous bug fixes addressed

Battery life was shocking on the wifes phone after Lollipop update. However, a backup, reset, and restore seems to have improved it slightly, but still not as good as before the update.

Hopefully the various wakelock issues killing battery life

Not had wake lock issues

my nexus 6 usually runs 24-36 hours no problem with plenty left over and moderate use

Possibly a rouge app as I thought project Volta which what lollipops rnd title was called was designed to prevent this

It's meant to but if you look at your battery stats, you should see lots of awake bits when the screen is off.

Mine sort of tally up with each other

A dash in awake a dash in screen on

I'll post a PIC after 12 hours of on time

Non rooted nexus 6

Vodafone. S4 mini. No update as of yet.

Ok folks, sorry to sound like a rookie, but I've now inherited my daughters HTC Salsa, as my old phone went west last night. It is on Gingerbread at the moment, can I update to the later OS's, or can I only update if HTC send it to me?. I update checked it last night and it says it is up to date.

Never dealt with Android before so this is all new to me so please be gentle with the scathing comments. :giggle:

I know the phone is not current, but my tech needs are not vast, and this seems to more than do the job.

Many thanks in advance,

Phil.

Usually you need to wait until your phone manufacturer issues an update.

You can force updates by rooting the phones and following instructions you might find on XDA.

I would probably just do a factory reset and stick with what is on it. Updates don't always improve old phones. It'll be missing some features and security patches but as long as you are careful about what apps you download it should be fine.

I'd recommend you avoid mobile banking and shopping if you can't run the most up to date versions. Everything else should be fine.

I still have issues with it on my S4, regularly starts up and has no screen, no widgets, apps etc, just a blank screen, so have to restart at least once to get it to work properly, and restarts are very protracted.

I'm getting the urge to dump android & go to "THE DARK SIDE" and get an iPhone....

Had it on my S4 since it came out. I had one issue with during normal calls mic not being picked up, but working in other voice applications like viber etc. Did a hard reset and it's been 110% since didn't expect it to be faster and smoother than kitkat, but it was from the moment the update finished. My S4 has a another year or 2 in it yet as a result.
