hi i have a skoda fabia classic and just recently the engine seems to have got loud only as the car goes faster, idling its still quiet but when i get to about 40 its loud and seems to vibrate but not through the steering wheel, it doesnt happen when i rev just when im moving

May I suggest you locate an independent specialist near you because your problem could be caused by any number of things, there's no easy diagnosis without getting the car up in the air and having a poke about so to speak.

Im guessing its exhaust related sounds like its blowing. worth checking the oil, friend of mine came round the other day

complaining of noisy engine and when I checked he had none in it. I had to put 2 litres in before it registered half way up the dipstick it was

quiet as a mouse after that.

Definitely sounds like a wheel bearing to me however diagnosing faults on an opinion can be tricky lol

Back to the car....

 

When driving, try dipping the clutch, allowing engine revs to die back. Does it still vibrate and make the noise? If so it's something other than the engine.

 

Problem could be virtually anything unfortunately. Would be safer to do some basic checks like checking the tyre pressures and having a look around the tyres to see if there's obviously a problem.

 

If I had to guess, I'd say rear tyre or wheel bearing.... Utter guess though. Ah, or brakes....

sounds to me like a wheel bearing. yes it would be noticeable if it was jacked up and spun by hand. the wheel should spin smoothly with no rough grinding noises or feel. if you grab hold of the spring with one hand and spin the wheel with the other you will feel if rough through your finger tips.

if your not good with jacks. just think not to put yourself under where you can get crushed if cars slips (bottom of wheel with fingers or with legs crossed sitting down )

I doubt anyone took that comment in anything other than the context it was intended. Remove any life from the posts and your gonna create

When you rev the engine in neutral its not under any load, it could still be engine related if it happens at speed.

No problems here, Although I would say perhaps the title of the post could have been worded differently if it wanted to avoid humorous responses given that gender has nothing to do with the problem. Or does it? :peek: (awaits removal).

 

Also I have just noticed Briskoda membership has expired this month. I have made way more controversial borderline comments in the past and never had them removed or moderated. Do I need to pay for the privilege?

You get people spamming everyone on there with the "hello and welcome" message and they clearly didn't actually read the original post in the first place and offer no help/advice where requested.

Its just an easy way of bumping up post counts, for those that care about such things.

I'd say either wheel bearing or binding brake perhaps. 

Sometimes a stone can get between brake pad and brake disc and make a surprising 

racket. After a run are any of the wheels much hotter than the others?
