Did Your Car Come With Free Swirling

Featured Replies

After two weeks of ownership decided to give the VRS a wash; foamed and two bucket method. I had my suspicions there was some swirling but oh boy the level is incredible; when the light catches it right OMG.

I cant be believe that I am looking at getting the DA out on the car already to get rid of the swirls and start from fresh; what are they playing at when they wash it at the dealers?

Unfortunately standard on most cars - dealers won't pay any attention to that level of detail.

They are instructed to PDI the cars to a standard which includes cleaning off transport wax etc - this is what they have done.

Removing swirls is not in the PDI and to 95% of buyers is irrelevant.

Not my actual Octy.

My last 320d came badly and almost completely marked from swirls, although it's not a secret that latest BMW painting is soft

I can honestly say I don't know as I shipped mine off for a full Gtechniq new car detail.

Looks fabulous when it came back and even now, over eight months later, still looks good after a wash.

Mine didn't because I told the dealers not to touch it.

Im doing a new car detail on a brand new Mk3 vRS soon because the owner doesnt trust the dealers!!

I'm not sure what you are expecting a dealer to do?

They are just going to take off the plastic protector & stick the car through the automated carwash.

For 99% of the customers this will be absolutely fine.

As the other suggested, if you are especially interested in detailing its best to do it yourself or get the professionals to do it.

A grit free wash would be nice :)

If I bought a brand new car I would be telling them not to touch it when it comes in... I've seen the eastern europeans they employ at my dealers with their sponges!!!

What do you think an automated car wash does to car Gabbo?

What do you think an automated car wash does to car Gabbo?

Yeah it's not the automated wash I would be worried about... it's the mucky sponge/wash mit full of grit being rubbed all over the car that I'd be more concerned with!!!

Makes me cringe! My mother in law inherited a Yaris Hybrid top spec in a lovely maroon colour and mint condition. A few weeks later I saw it again and I said "I'm guessing you use a sponge to wash the car?" "yeah, how do you know?!". It was FULL of swirls and hazing. Awful!

The my colleauge who said her husband had started doing some car cleaning on the side when I mentioned I'd polished and waxed my car. "Oh right. Hope he doesn't use a sponge". "Well yeah, what else would you use?!". So basically people are paynig for him to replace the dirt on the car with scratches!!

Must be bad if it's visible on a steel grey car.  I expected to see you had a black car.  Mine's blue and was cleaned very well by the dealer prior to delivery.  10 months later and there is no swirl visible, but on the blue it shows less anyway.

Also told the dealers not to touch, was Gtechniq'd too !

Mine had the film removed and that was it. It is getting detailed and paint protection in a week or so.

Mine was pretty good although had a few marring marks here and there and the gloss black pillar covers were horrific, still are but that will get attended to shortly by my DA

Looked at a used MkII FL vRS in Race Blue in a main Skoda dealers. Very noticeable swirls all over the bodywork. The bonnet being the worst. When I pointed this out to the dealer the reply was, "They are all like that"!!!

Mine had pretty bad swirls on the hood. Had a professional detailer to polish it and applied ceramic pro coat.

The worst bits on my vrs was the shiny plastic trim on the b posts,i had left clear instructions with the dealer not to remove the protection,or have a certain guy at the dealers that also cleans the cars not to be put within a mile of mine, youv probably guessed, the trim protector was removed and plastic swirled and also this guy had been put to cleaning it, which I found out a day before pick up,took a lot of persuading for me to take it,

Sorry not updated my profile yet, colour is metal grey now; metal grey looks lovely in the dark when light hits it you see all the metallic flecks along with the swirls :(

I've corrected the quote for you

Well, mine has one specific (small) patch that looks like it was cleaned with a pan scourer. I didn't buy it new though! To be honest, I'm one of those "lazy" folk that isn't that bothered. I probably wash it once a year and for the discount available on 1 year old one the odd mark here and there really doesn't bother me one bit. By the time I've finished with it there'll be loads of marks anyway...

My next vRS (ordering in 1 year) will not be getting touched by the dealers! They have no clue nor have the desire to spend the time to wash it properly.

Erm... :peek:  so what *should* you use? I'm asking for a friend....

The hair of 50 virgins.

Blonde for the doors, brunette for the bonnet and grille.

Redheads for the exhaust, if you really want it clean.

A good quality mitt. I use the Microfibre Madness Mitt.

Sponges are the work of the devil and leave the dirt no where to go, so it just sits between the surface of the sponge and the paint. Queue swirls.
