Come on - be fair  on the guy.

He is a Grand Prix winner - making him more successful than 737 of the 843 F1 drivers in history.

And he clearly won his race on merit and on pace, unlike say those who backed into wins when the big guns crashed or made stupid mistakes.

  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

Be fair?  I think if anything we've been pretty lenient on him...

"Here's a thought lads, shall we put those engine and aero upgrades on ready for Spain?"

"Nah sod it, let's repaint it instead !"

Only fitting... the colour of mourning after a seson lost ;)

Thing is I love that colour scheme, all black with red accents was always my fav livery!

Brilliant!!!

Must have been  pretty low speed crash, with such a mass and hitting at orbital descent speeds half of the planet would be gone - gotta love StarWars astrophysics ;)

You're forgetting the rule of cool which JJ Abrams uses to the degree that all other rules are completely ignored rather than just stretched...I was thinking exactly the same as your comment, it seems to be irritatingly common at the moment to have deep space starships operating in an atmosphere despite no visible modifications to do so and I think it just looks stupid.

I'm not sure on the McLaren F1 colours but then it doesn't really matter as it's not like they're going to be featuring in the races for a while.

Good job by Nico today, looking forward to a good race tomorrow! Few people have said Nico had gone for a qualifying trim but I dont think there's a huge amount that can be done is there? Few wing adjustments maybe but they all run on minimal fuel whatever so we'll see how it goes. Nice to see steady progress by Macca too, force india seem to really be struggling.

Agreed Nico did the better job today. Will be an interesting charge down to turn 1 especially as lewis has been getting very quick starts this year. It does look like Mercedes have built a bit more of a gap to Ferrari. Good to see both Toro Rossos in q3 too.

Half empty stands in Barcelona........no German GP.........discounted ticket sale for Silverstone of all places..........Formula One losing its appeal?

I went out for a walk half way through once I saw it would be a Nico win. Caught up later on iPlayer instead. Going to Japan in September to see the GP live. Can't wait!

Corporate sponsors are much fewer than in previous years.

Needs spicing up and less politics

Yes. With you on that. It has lost its fundamental raison d'être, namely the best drivers, in the fastest cars, going as quick as they can.

What politics?

Its not exactly FOCA v's FISA is it? No drivers on strike. No GP taking place with points removed subsequently. No sudden rules changes making all the non works cars uncompetitve overnight.

This is one of the least political eras ever in F1 IMHO.

Which series has the best drivers then?

And which series has faster cars? - other than 2004 F1 when there was a tyre war, horrendous costs and we were in the middle of the unbelievably dull Ferrari domination years.

Do you think Fernando driving a s**tbox at the back of the grid might be a factor in Barcelona??

Back to the race,

Does anybody else think Verstappen weaves too much in the braking areas?

I though he was going to launch Kyvatt into outer space with one move (see the Webber flying Red Bull above)

It is possible to some extent. However, a friend was there and said this was the poorest attendance she had ever seen at Barca. In addition, if you recall, one of the reasons that Hockenheim declined to take this years race was the poor attendance in 2014. (I was there for DTM and it was stacked out).

It is interesting to check out attendances. Some of the races so far this season have had particularly poor support. Check out TV images over the whole weekend. Some Fridays have been almost fan free!

Pleased to see that Nico has found winning ways again, since IMO that's the only thing that might prevent a complete "Lewiswash" (love him or loathe him surely if you love the sport you'd like Lewis to have someone at least close in the points for most of the season?)

Last years attendances certainly weren't helped by Bernie, Vettel, Di Montezemolo and others denigrating the product early on in the season.

Vettel getting burned by his team-mate probably took numbers off at Hockenheim too.

But what do the owners of the sport do? - nothing. They let teams go out of business, they diss their own show, they hoover up the revenue.  It's not looking good for the future.

Red Bull say they will quit F1 unless Audi join forces with them

Whatever...

F1 might make some money out of that if RB want to buy themselves out of 2 team contracts with Bernie that last until 2020.

Yet they haven't even had talks with VW yet , the whole RB thing is nonsense and smacks of sour grapes . Marko is sounding like a petulant child who threatens to take his ball back if he isn't allowed go win

Quite an interesting and thoughtful article by DC on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/32699924

Yes, I agree. I am sure, however, that he would have wanted to say a lot more but felt constrained by his own position within the sport.
