2015 F1 General Discussion Thread

After yesterdays first lap crash, I'm guessing Kimi's contract isn't going to get extended beyond this year! Pity, as F1 is short of characters.

Also, Maldonado showed some pretty impressive car control on a couple of occasions during the race.

Other than that, another so-so F1 race.

  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

Watched Rush (again) over the weekend, there is a line in it something to do with characters.

Didn't even watch the race, haven't even watched the highlights despite Kimi & Fernando tangle. Couldn't even be bothered to make my prediction league picks.

F1 doesn't have any characters, they are all controlled by their PR people, told what to say, when to say it, don't be controversial, everything recorded in case it's taken out of context. Too controlled, much like the cars - they aren't "driven", merely piloted.

Sorry guys, think my time with F1 is about done. The WEC is much more appealing, F1 is dull by comparison, and I'll also watch MotoGP more.

Lewis Hamilton has turned into a complete #### since moving to Merc, more a celebrity than a sportsman. McLaren have totally lost their way. Red Bull & Renault too. Ferrari and Williams have definitely improved. But until they do something about the silly regulations, tyres and Bernie nothing will improve.

That is all, rant over.

Rush is on again tonight, 9pm 4Seven

I watched about the first 10 minutes of Rush, then turned over because I wanted to punch Chris Hemsworth, and keep punching him until he stopped smiling.

With all these posts relating to historical drives, I am left wondering if anyone will remember anything about F1 at the moment in years to come other than it was a complete snooze fest.

Well so far we've only come up with half a dozen highlights from 66 seasons of F1, and one of those was last year, so on average, the current formula must be quite good?

Sienna / Mansell, Monaco 1992

Start another thread camel, F1 highlights of yesteryear

Was he not in character then? Surely James must have been pretty happy - getting paid to race F1 - and getting unlimited attention from the ladeez. Whats not to smile about? ;)

It's not famous, but Bergers Monaco qually laps in a V12 Ferrari 412 are pant-wettingly good - and on youtube.

Dont give up after the first one - the second lap is sublime.

Four wheel drifts through Casino etc.

Jeeze that Austrian race was dull. I kid yer not, watching the honda mower today was more motivating. It must be a daunting mchonda office mood.

Some interesting movement in the mid field for the odd lap or two.

Yes, Senna's lap at Donington was indeed very special. Yes, GV's lap was in practice but he was 11 seconds faster than they guy in 2nd place who happened to be his team mate. The rest of the field were even further behind.

We should be having this discussion over beer!

Yes why not. I'll be back in the county permanently soon.

At this point he was still in F3, and "being in character" =/= "being likeable as a person".

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the result of the GPDA survey is in:  http://gpda.motorsport.com/  and pretty much what I thought apart from a couple of things.  (I'm not too bothered about the sound )

Wow I bet Mclaren are kicking themselves; more than they already are,  a lot given 2nd team #popular and two of the top 3 drivers #popular on the books.

I know open wheel racing is dangerous, but so is crossing the road. I'd feel safer in a F1 car than my road car :) I'd throw a rolling start in, hardly ever any 1st corner crashes on the restarts. QED safety stats boost and cost saving and 45seconds less fuel :)

OTOH also virtually no turn 1 place changes unless someone is out of "position".

On the whole the survey is pretty damning about the current state of F1 and not surprisingly.

We have cars that are technically brilliant, drivers that are arguably the best in the world but regulations which force them to drive slowly (hardly ever driving a race anywhere near 100% effort) and in a very controlled fashion.

How come Max Verstappen was quick this morning, soft tyres, surely the Renault engine has suddenly become more competitive?

Why were cars slower pm?

Guessing fuel loads or humidity. It's gotten a lot hotter here in Sheffield, a good few hours away I know, but prevailing weather. Also chance of rain tomorrow, so maybe running for a wet setup...

So will Rosberg beat Hamilton off the line again of will Hamilton get it right and scamper away? Can Williams beat Ferrari?

Teams have rejected refuelling, one of the things the survey said would improve the sport?

Slowly slowly people are walking away from F1, they really don't help themselves.

Red Bull & Christian Horner.

The biggest surprise to me from Silverstone TV coverage is to learn he is married to Geri Haliwell. (Geraldine Horner)

Any easy win (so as not to give the game away). Crashdanaldo has more questions to answer. Rather not be in his shoes tonight.

Crikey....has the race finished?

Just woke up........

Quite an interesting race today.

I usually find the British GP at Silverstone boring as one team usually scampers away to a 10 second lead after 5 laps and it all gets a bit dull.

The flying start by the 2 Williams cars made the race better and the rain certainly lived it up. I genuinely thought Hamilton had pitted for intermediates too soon, but it turned out to be spot on. The Williams aero package is great on a fast circuit, but lacked down force in the wet, which was a shame as Vettel snatched the podium spot.

Looks like Williams has found a bit more pace although it's unlikely to have any bearing on the championship. Hopefully will make the next races more interesting. :sun:
