  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

I know he has plenty of haters but no one can take much away from him this year, he's barely put a foot wrong all season. Well deserved IMO.

The best man won the Championship, Rosberg showing how petulant he really is and why he'll always be a number 2 driver.

Verstappen was impressive as were both McLarens who were genuinely racing. This race had it all.

It was exciting, but necessarily for the right reasons. Too many incidents influencing the final outcome for my liking. Mind you, he would have won it before the end of the season imho.

I wondered about that moment too. Did he do it in jest or was he rubbing it in, with the hat being for the 2nd place finisher? Couldn't quite figure what was going through his mind. A little insensitive to say the least

He was just handing the hats out and he was further away. He passed Vettel's hat to him too. Shows Nico is broken though. Bouncing back will be almost impossible

He certainly looked as crushed as any sportsman I've seen before. Perhaps it was the apparent relish with the haste he chucked it. Sort of a "come on, stop sitting around, we have a world champion to go and worship"

Rosberg's problem is that he does not like to hear God save the Queen. :D

So sprinklers on all circuits for 2017... good highlights, didn't feel like too many missed laps.

Is LH buying DK a drink tonight?

I was a mazed NR didn't clip a bit of grass again on last lap... could you imagine the debrief :D

IF Hamilton didn't make that great decision to go to Mercedes could Rosberg now be 3x champion or if Hamilton had gone to RB and then Mercedes could he now be 7x champion it is something we will never know but it shows having the right driver and car together now like with shuey in the past having a winning combination in car and driver leaves no place to be for the the no 2 driver however good they are.

At least Mercedes let them race each other

Schuey chose Irvine, Barrichello and Massa to be his (very well paid) wingmen who had no contractual chance to win at all, and boy was it embarrassing at times.

Reubens moving over with yards to go in Austria, the messed up dead-heat in Indianapolis - it was farcical.

Rosberg is allowed to race and beat Hamilton fair and square - and sometimes he manages it too.

I'd like to see one race a year where there is a reverse car/driver grid. It would work something like this. At the halfway point in the season, the top driver will compete in one race in the worst car etc so the poorest driver can get to crash/drive the best car. bit boring for the guys in the middle of the ranking as they may not get a chance to play though. It would mean the teams wouldn't have to worry too much about loss of sponsorship and we would get to see how good the drivers in the best cars really were.

I suspect this will never fly :D

Well, it's unfair to whichever team is going to get stuck with Pastor Maldonado crashing one of their cars! ;)

That's why I chose the 'crash/drive' wording carefully

  Pastor's sort of become a meme though.  :bearhug:

not known as Crashtor Maldonado for nothing

Or what you could do is give drivers the incentive of qualifying on pole by giving points for it. Seeing first hand at Suzuka this year F1 cars in a quali setup was amazing to watch which could be even better if you gave even more of an incentive and also gave them Quali only tyres. Super sticky rubber, only good for 2 laps to get a really fast time.

You could do reverse grids but would have to be completely random 3 races a year and the teams could only find out after qualifying.

Doesn't Indy car give a point for fastest Qually and a point for fastest lap in the race?

I think so; certainly it's far from uncommon to give a point for one and/or the other in non-FIA championships.

With the current Pirelli compounds, chasing the fastest lap is likely to cost an extra pitstop - they're only good for 3 or 4 really quick laps before thermal degradation ruins them.  Hence drivers running round seconds off the pace to make them last and achieve the fastest total race time instead.
