Low point of the race: Watching Bottas being punted out of a well earned 3rd place.

High point of the race: Rob Smedley explaining he wasn't going to repeat what was said about that on the BBC.

Not a bad race, certainly a mixed result from the usual lot. Well done Merc, even if Kimi did give it to you....

  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

Great race - I really enjoyed it.

Shame for Bottas not to get that podium result.

Yes, who on earth would want to deal with such an arrogant crowd of whiners? They seem to believe that  they have an absolute right to be allowed to win and that the rules should be changed to help them if they can't do it on their own.

Red Bull - despite their whining all season - were second in the constructors championship last year after 4 years at the top.  They then entered into an exclusive deal with Renault for engines, replacing the Torro Rosso Ferrari engines with Renault and forcing the so-called Lotus team to seek an engine elsewhere - Mercedes obliged.  As soon as Horner saw that Red Bull might drop lower he started whining louder and moaning about Renault engines.

Of course, Horner says that they have always had customer engines "which we paid for" without mentioning that they recouped that outlay from the Infiniti sponsorship brought to them by Renault  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault%E2%80%93Nissan_Alliance

I genuinely hope that somebody can come in to replace them  - but I, for one, won't be sorry to see the back of Christian Horner and I think many other F1 fans feel the same.  Perhaps Jos Verstappen  and Carlos Sainz (senior) can lead a deal to take over Torro Rosso which, with the new Ferrari B team, would still leave 20 cars on the grid.

Dieter Master**** claims that not winning is harming his brand.  Nope, the arrogant attitude and whining is what is harming his brand

Yes, a team that should go on to be one of the all time greats looks like it will vanish to become a footnote to racing history instead.

And as I said before, they wont be missed.

All I will miss is the drivers they will leave behind. The whole young drive program I was never happy with. So many good drivers being thrown away like rubbish.

Notice that the FIA are - once again - happy to change the rules to help Red Bull.  Suppliers will not be allowed to offer this year's engines to anycustomers next year - and the rules on the second, wastegate, exhaust allow it to be used for a blown diffuser (although no as powerful as in the past).

This probably guarantees no engine supplier will want to deal with the arrogant pr*cks at Red Bull (fair enough). Unfortunately, it also seems to signal the death knell for Toro Rosso who were prepared to take the 2015 Ferrari engine.  Looks like down to 9 teams next year

Previously the FIA often changed the rules to try and stop the runaway REDBULL train, notably by amending the aero rules whenever there was another rumour started by the competition about flexi wings, illegal holes in bodywork etc.

What technical rule changes have happened this year?  The fuel flow one to stop Ferrari cheating is the only one I recall. I'm guessing that only benefited Mercedes.

KMag to leave McHonda at end of 2015.

Actually, they weren't interested in changing the rules about the wings - although they did test the red Bull wings n told them to comply with the pre-existing rules about flexing.  They did change the rules to allow the blown diffuser, telling the other teams that they could now use it as well (although, of course, since it was a development created by Renault with the car's aero then designed around it, no team could match it without a complete redesign of their whole package).

Red Bull's other problem his year has been with gears.  Teams had to designate a fixed number of gear ratios for the whole season whereas, in the past, Red Bull would choose gear ratio sets for each specific race - often changing between practice and qualifying.

They are one of the teams that benefit from the unfair distribution of money within the sport - to the detriment of the lower teams.  part of their extra money comes from having given a binding commitment to keep the team racing until 2020.  When the major teams wanted to break away a few years ago Ecclestone threatened to tie them up in legal action because thy had similar agreements.  He should enforce the agreement with Red Bull or reclaim the money from he past few years and give it too the lower teams.

Quotes from Lewis Hamilton

"Growing up watching F1, when Ferrari lost the championship after having success, I don't remember hearing them complaining the next year. You have to keep pushing forward and there is no reason for them to give up."

"It seems really odd for me, having witnessed Red Bull's success, and then the moment that they don't have success, it is like they have been upset about it,"

"All those people who have a job, you're saying you are going to get rid of all those people through something that is not the biggest thing? They can still have success. They just have to work hard at it."

I wholeheartedly agree.

Given that there's a Hurricane on the way, and FP2 has been rained off, signs around the circuit are telling people to seek shelter, and 4x4's can hardly get around the track. Does anyone know what happens if the weekend is a complete wash out?

They can't just wait, as they have to get onto the next round, so would it be the times from FP1? Or does everyone get a point for turning up?

maybe they shoukd just wait and not go to Mexico. Austin is a real F1 track whereas the Autodromo is a shadow of it's former self. Theres a baseball stadium where the famous Peraltada curve should be!!

On another tack entirely, does anyone think it was even vaguely right that Kevin Magnuson was informed that his services were no longer required by McHonda by e-mail?

Yeah, but I said "right", not "legal".

Not right, then there are few good ways of doing it. But a huge relief for him too I imagine.

TBH Honda will likely snap their arm off to speed up development and reliability

I'd say Honda could be a good gamble. Yes they are miles behind atm, but it's bound to be a eureka moment. After all rocket propulsion was an accident as was 3m sticky pads. It maybe construed I'm suggesting honda need a rocket made from stickies ;)

I think it was about 12 months ago that I guessed on here that McLaren would do the donkey work and then a bigger team would steal the Honda motors away.

It not as if Honda have repeated form for this (Oh! they do actually)

Previously Spirit F1 did the Honda development before losing the works deal to Williams, who later lost it to McLaren.

Later Jordan were cast out if favour of BAR.

How ironic it will be if McLaren take all the pain and Red Bull do the (anticipated) winning.

Bernie has apparently stated that Ron Dennis has blocked a RBR - Honda tie up

Qualifying now to happen Sunday morning. First time that's happened for a few years. Still no word on what happens if the weekend is a complete washout though.

What could happen is a wet quali but dry race which will be interesting for everyone. Plenty of rookies who have never raced here before. Would be nice if Hamilton gets the Championship here.

Also hoping it's dry so we can see the improvements on the Honda engine. Nando seems to think it's a good step on

Looks like the quali is going to be red flagged unless the rains stops soon......

Q3 scrapped
