Hit and Run - guess the make/model/reg.

Featured Replies

it hasn't captured the vital details needed.

OTOH, it will enable OP to provide his insurance company with irrefutable evidence of the event.

Right :) guess the lower frame rate was to increase memory capacity.

Not wanting to highjack this thread but I've been thinking about getting an in-car cam, and whilst the general quality of the footage in the clip posted here is good, it hasn't captured the vital details needed.

I appreciate there are a number of factors that were working against the OP here, low light, speed of object & low frame rate, but was just wondering if that could of been captured on a different camera?

The the OP, I hope you manage to track down the little scrote :)

As someone said, shouting the reg number on an incident would have it recorded. Blackvue are pretty top spec drive recorders from what I've seen so would expect serious outlay for any kind of improvement.

Yeah but someone else will have been driving. Someone unknown.

Then the registered keeper will be prosecuted for failing to provide details.

I've never had a problem with these cameras before, but a combination of the low light and speed difference are what have made it tricky.

There are several things the driver could have done and we'd have the reg clearly.

But after the incident it's a bit late to tell them. :)

It's just a scratch on the wing and the bumper corner was folded around.

So £800-£1000 of damage.

No matter how good the camera is you'll always get some instances like that, my RH2 even on full hd can't catch a plate on a car at high speed in dusk

It's definitely worth reporting to the police. They may have it on some cameras in the area and be able to assist more.

They certainly committed several offences there so I think it needs reporting anyway.

Phil

That's a no brainer for sure to include the police

It's low light conditions so the camera is taking a little longer to take each frame that increases the blur, a bit like slowing the shutter speed on a film camera.

That's made worse by the speed of the other car plus the camera is probably doing some compression on the fly.

Plod don't have any secret technology to improve crappy pictures that's pure Hollywood.

If it is a Grand C-Max I doubt there are too many of them registered, plod could probably check them out for damage (but they won't). If found and they refuse to say who was driving they'll still cop a fine and possibly get sued by their insurer since an unknown driver that hasn't stolen the car wouldn't be covered.

Its worth reporting because they may have smashed it further along (highly likely given how it was driven) and could link it up.

anyone been arrested for drink driving in the area?

Didn't happen that way for me - "anyone in the yard can use it"...

The RK has to keep a log of who uses it and when. Even our crappy shuttles and pool cars have to be booked in and out so if a ticket arrives they have the right person for the incident. The police should prosecute if this hasnt happened. That said, they didnt do the bloke who smashed into my bus and drove off years back, they told us "he's lost his job so we thought that was penalty enough" I was fairly pee'd off at that tbh, the incident was pretty similar to this one so wasnt a little scuff that he didnt notice.

Finally got to watch the video, as has been said, what a complete bell end of a driver.

Small nugget of good fortune- though - at least the gap wasnt a bit smaller - regardless of what happened that thing wasnt pulling up for the red light,

could have bee a far more serious smash, involving alot more people and damage if the Leaf was closer up on the Caddy when they shot through the gap.

And tbh, the impact shake to the car is probably one of the main reasons for the level of blur - along with the speed the ***** was going...

Surely it's gotta be nicked. Can't imagine the **** taking such a big risk just to beat the lights :-(. Terrible. Hope he gets nailed.

Where about's was it? Report it, looks like make model and colour guessed and poss part index. If its a busy junction/area a little bit of anpr work by local bobby may give you a result.

I thought all damage accidents had to be reported to the police

Injury accidents> if you had the reg your within your rights to report it as a hit and run otherwise might as well **** against the wind.

would be good if in car cameras had ANPR that locks on reg if its triggered by a shunt or bump

Download 'traffic eye' for iPhone, or I guess it's probably on android as well. It'll show you where all local cameras are. Then contact the Highways Agency and they'll provide footage from the camera, although may have to be at the request of your insurance company

Try reading Sec 170 Road Traffic Act

It doesn't just cover injury, it covers damage accidents where details are not exchanged

Nephew had a similar incident.  He was continuing along the M42, when a car swerved across in front, taking the exit far too late, hitting his OSF.

The nephew's car was pushed out of the way and into another car who also managed to witness the initial shunt.

Happened at an exit on the M42 so bound to be cameras - there are all the variable limits and camera boxes at least.

Two partial numbers.  There could not have been many options left from the vehicle description and the reg marks taken.

Local constabulary NOT interested.  As in rude.

It may be a legal obligation to report it, but getting "the authorities" to take any notice, or do anything, is another matter.

Yup.

I know a girl that lost her licence because she hit a wingmirror, drove off.

Somebody caught the reg. She got her licence taken off her for failing to stop
