0-62mph is 4.2 seconds (not 3.2 or 2.8 now) but that's enough for a 2,100kg in a big family car.

 

To go a second quicker to 62mph is an extra £15k, then an extra 0.4 seconds on top is another £8k (23k) on top of that.  And you lose 10% range.

As a company car purchase it makes a lot of sense, will cost me the same as a new Octavia over 3 years once you factor in tax savings, fuel savings and Telsa's guarantee buy back at 50% of the purchase price.

I was waiting for the Model III, but it's 2 or 3 years away so will run the 90D first.

Being American (big) that'll probably be more like a 5 series BMW size anyway...

If your firm is small and has profits below £300,000, it pays 20% corporation tax. If you choose an electric car, it can immediately deduct 100% of the cost from its profits, thus avoiding 20% of the price of the car in tax, effectively reducing the EV’s sticker price by 20%.

If your firm is large and has profits above £1.5 million, it pays 26% corporation tax. If you choose an electric car, it can immediately deduct 100% of the cost from its profits, thus avoiding 26% of the price of the car in tax, effectively reducing the EV’s sticker price by 26%. The bigger firm, which can better afford to buy things, thus gets a bigger bonus from going electric. Which hardly seems fair but then we are talking about tax. Fair rarely comes into it.

Finally, if your firm is in the middle, with profits above £300,000 but below £1.5m, it pays a transitional rate of tax on a sliding scale between 20% and 26%, depending on the exact level of profit. Here’s where it gets interesting because Capital Allowances have a double effect. By cutting the level of profit, the allowance reduces not just the tax bill but the tax rate as well. If you choose an electric car, your firm can immediately deduct 100% of the cost from its profits, and when you plug in the values into a suitably primed spreadsheet you’ll find that the firm avoids 27.5% of the cost of the vehicle in tax, thus equivalent to a 27.5% discount. So again, it’s hardly fair, but mid-sized firms find themselves in a sweet spot. The tax man will help them buy EVs as company cars with a particularly generous contribution.

Also the 1 series can't have adaptive cruise, so not sure about the 2.

Wanted something a bit more sensible as I have a quick weekend/track/race car anyway.

The Tesla looks like a really good car with Consumer Report rating its highest score and not just because it is a one trick pony with its blistering acceleration but as an excellent car.

Re the 2015 RS3 and the wider front tyres that Audi have fitted.

 

There are recent posts in the Hot hatch thread that discuss the BMW m135i, and there is the incident of Jeremy Clarkson loosing the car off a very wet horizontal (flat) track (runway) while at around 120 mph.

 

It just had me wondering about them in the real world with the RS3 being AWD but just as prone to Aquaplaning as other not very heavy cars are when on wide tyres, or actually being a vehicle more prone to aquaplane as a similar A3 / S3 on not so wide front tyres.

 

The obvious answer is drive to the conditions and the vehicles, but then we all know that many with vehicles designed for performance think that because car testers can drive them very fast in all conditions, that cars straight out the showroom will behave safely on very wet roads etc.
