My self I did use prestone and found it to be gd but we sell polygard stuff and I use it ma self and get good feedback on that.

The tesco / asda stuff is the same as autocare but that's only does to minus 5 I'm sure

  • You might well get that in Lidl as well.   "All seasons" usually doesn't mean any lower than -5C. Round here in winter that's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.   Seeing -10c on the

Is it that good?

My wife likes it, with Coke and Lemon   :cocktail:

not surprised, it's about 80% ABV :hic: Cheaper per litre than my usual tipple of Tesco Value mouthwash too :D

Is it that good?

It's actually very good stuff for the price, Chris; TuV tested and approved for fan jets, smell can be a little overpowering when used to a low dilution though but a good price as it goes a long way when mixed with water :)

or Coke

5l was £4.99 I think. Certain it was no more.

Haven't seen any deals on the ready mix for over a year, and I've checked weekly.

Have bought some vag stuff, but it's very expensive if you mix to the ratio's on the label. Not sure what everyone else is using.

As for - 30C, PMSL. Why do you need protection that low?

I have been buying 5L pre mixed SW from poundworld  good for down to -10.....

I have always used the Halfords screenwash, though not the ready mixed. I just mix it as I go in spare bottles, or use it straight depending on the weather (freezing etc).

Dad has used it for years and I have used it for the past 12!

Its probably more expensive, though never had a problem with it, certainly not with it freezing in the pipes.

I go to tesco garage

Put £1 in the machine

Top up tyres and fill the screenwash bottle to the brim

Easy and bargain

OK guys, will head out to Halfords via my two local Lidls. I may be some time (to quote captain Oates)

As for cost, I can dilute the Lidl concentrated stuff to be suitable for ~ -6C and thus  get ~20l for £5. Having headlight washers and dirty wet roads I get through a lot of the stuff. That quantity would see me through the winter. And it hits freezing regularly in Derbyshire. The forecourt stuff is a joke regarding price and suitability for my needs . I dismiss the £**** stuff- they often do not mention temperatures at all on the label .

the vag bottle I have is in german with no dilution tables on at all. would you be kind enough to tell me the dilution required for different tempretures  please

They still have snow in Buxton, was there on Monday.

It's only piled up in some sheltered corners though.

How's the snow in Buxton now?

If you peel the label on the front, it has pictures with drops showing how much of each, but mostly it seems to be a 1:1 mix to get to -15C protection which at £4 a bottle is flipping expensive.

ah, now my crystal ball did not tell me about that! thank you gadgetman, I did not see the minute arrow at the bottom of the label , poor labelling in my opinion

Scotland?

It is on the coast so generally doesnt get as cold

Plus i never need my car in the mornings usually only at nights so i guess the warmth through the day keeps it all good

Heated water jets help too

I used Lidl stuff for years and ran out this winter, I was also disappointed that they stopped stocking it. I tried the Halfords one (green?) and then discovered the Costco stuff, which is a similar price to the Lidl stuff, dilutes similarly, has antifreeze stuff in and comes with a pouring spout thing. It is around £5 I think too.

I prefer the Costco one over Halfords and the Lidl one to be honest as is doesn’t stink like the Lidl stuff.

I also like to keep a litre in a spray bottle at a 1:1 ratio in the boot to de-ice when I’m not in the house.

Worked there for 39 years and lived at the top of Harpur Hill for 25 years. Seen some fun winters with snow up to the door handles. Now recently retired to the lowlands of NE Derbyshire.
