Lidl Screen Wash Lack of....

Featured Replies

I have the wipers on my car fron last time they were in. Do the job fine, but on the octy the little spoiler puts too much much down force on the blade above 65mph causing a lot of dragging. Take it off throw it away and theyre spot on. Still good after about 8months..

Bulbs are alrighht as spares, light output is crap compared to osrams though..

  • there was a fresh pallet load in Eastleigh Lidl when I went in on Sunday. If I'd have known I'd have bought the lot and started a topic in the Car Parts for Sale section

  • You might well get that in Lidl as well.   "All seasons" usually doesn't mean any lower than -5C. Round here in winter that's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.   Seeing -10c on the

  • Anything wrong with Halfords Screenwash? Ive used it for years..The pink stuff They have BOGOF offers as well

I work for Lidl in maintenance. I will keep my eye out for the concentrate stuff.

Does their screenwash really smell that bad though.

Always try to buy 'Bluecol - Sub Zero'.

The screen wash stinks of (to my nose) methylated lemons :D and it seems to seep through the glass going by how fast it gets into my car!

Yes it really does smell odd, like someone has manufactured 'lemon smell' from the leftovers of crude oil.

Haven't seen that stuff for years now. ECP do a  -70C bottle but it's never in stock and much more expensive than the Aldi stuff

I luckily still have 1.5 bottles of the super concentrate left over from when I stocked up in Dec 2014.

I've not seen it in our local Lidl since then at all.

Just picked up 2 5l bottles of the concentrated stuff in lidl.. good to -60c.. should see me a while :)

In the newly rebuilt store in Swadlincote we are opening this Thursday, they have the 'all season' screenwash ready for sale but I cannot see any concentrate.

I cannot see a temperature recommendation on the 'all season' stuff either, so not really much use putting that in your water bottle this time of year, is there?

That's Lidl for you.

Anyway I would sooner have some less smelly stuff. I will stick with Bluecol if I can find some, usually in Asda. I think most on the net would likely be fake.

If it gets to -10 on Wednesday night in parts of the UK most will be OK with All Season Screen Wash and All Season tyres and

those in Newcastle will be fine without a jacket on.

Unless you have heated nozzles you are likely to be getting no washer fluid out anyway even when it is liquid in the bottle.

The lidl stuff today is -60 neat, -30 @1:1 and -10@2:1.

I figure 1.5:1 should alright for most we get hit with over here tbh.

Picked up another 3 bottles this morning on way to work.. 5 will surely be enough for a while!!

ECP has their -70 stuff on offer at the moment.

It's £2.99 online for 1l. Nothing like as good a deal as the Lidl stuff but not bad.

Their cheaper stuff says "Up to -8C", not sure what'll happen above that. Could be nasty.

Mate of mine did a ski season in austria and came back with 5 bottles of -80C screenwash.....

well it says screenwash but im pretty sure it is just ethanol(glycol)

After a week, Lidl Customer Service have got back to me to confirm that the freezing point of the 'all seasons' screenwash they have just been selling is -5C.  Not a lot of use at this time of year then.  Mind you the 'concentrate' I saw in Morrisons the other day is good to -4C if used neat!  Think I'll pass on that too.

I've gone back to Lidl asking why it appears that Eire get the good stuff whilst we get cheap rubbish?

It will be interesting to see what the reply might be.

Lol, maybe ours was unused back stock? We never got the good stuff before now!

I'll wager that they still get the good stuff in Germany, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, etc.......

I wonder whether the decision to palm us off with an inferior product was taken in Germany or this country?

They are the Discounters, they buy cheap and in bulk and sell at good prices, so if they get what they get and the UK is a market top sell it in then where is the harm.

If you do not want what is on sale, it is simple, look into Aldi, Home Bargain, B&M or some other Discount Retailer.

As a concentrate (if sold as 1 litre) I would put money on the -4c being a mistake, ie -40c. It wouldn't however give me enough confidence in it, to buy and use it.

You usually get some idea by the colour strength.

I use either the Asda stuff or halfords. Both do the job well. Lowest temperature we've had so far is -2 so I just dilute the readyixed stuff as it never gets that cold anymore.

WINDCHILL factor helps to get screen down below that .. That said, locally I but Asda standard, and in winter use it  neat, with a dollop of cheapest washing up liquid I can find( cheap washing up liquid does not foam as much as  dearer). I've only had front washers freeze up once or twice, and possibly due to routing, they thaw out fast. Biggest danger is windchill on windscreen before heater takes effect, and washer fluid freeze  smears on screen.

Is that Wind Chill?

Wind Chill is a temperature that living flesh might feel, or it feels like, human or animal flesh.
