Car Regens Daily

Mine was built early October, so is only a month older than yours (but mine is a 2015MY and yours is a 2015.5MY)

I think it's just that you are special Andy :-)

Mine is regening quite often at the moe so have had to take her for a plus 125MPH blast on the local autobahn to help her clear her nose.

A complete pain in the arse but dealers over here don't offer much warranty with short journey diesels so I can't afford the small fortune of it going into 'Oh dear' mode. The wife has had the light on a few times recently so think a radiator cover might be in order as I rarely had an issue in the summer.

Also a 125mph+ blast is fun and I have taken an interest in seeing how Hot I can get the oil with 127°C being my max so far! (I always allow it to cool to a steady 95°C before I park her up)!!

That sort of 20 min run leaves me regen free for about 2 weeks and is often not always required, I just tell her it is!!!

Thats an interesting point about the radiator cover.
Grill shutters were the next great thing a few years ago reducing drag at high speed, increasing the engine warm-up thus better emissions & better fuel economy.

However, I'm not sure even BMW still have them now.

They would be quite useful in the winter months for improved warm-up & cabin heat.

Plus I'm a man than would never say no to a couple more MPG on the highway. ;)

Think I've got to the bottom of it Andy - I'm an idiot!

I do get the same message as you if the front windscreen heater is on.  It's if the rear windscreen is on at the same time as the heated seats I get the "engine must be running" message. Presumably the front screen by itself causes enough current draw to need the engine running so gets its own message, whereas neither the seats nor rear screen by themselves require enough power to need the engine running - it's only when all are on together that the power requirements increase, probably combined with the stereo and headlights, and so the more generic message.

This would tie in with the same message occurring if the engine is stopped for too long - a more generic total power requirement rather than one being caused by an single identifiable item?

Sorry for the confusion - I've recently had a birthday and now find my train of thought leaving the station without me onboard :)
