Gadge at work has an Ibiza cupra sport and its mental fast it keeps up with my mates R32 to well over a ton i'd love to do that in a fabia

I think the main reason why Skoda haven't yet released a 1.8T or 2.0T Fabia is because of VAG's commercial strategy. Seat are the chosen ones for "Sports" cars, and Skoda doesn't get any of it. It may all change with the Octy 2 vRS and there was talk about a limited WRC Fabia which sounds mental, but nothing confirmed in writing I think.

Also, a lot of people buy Fabia diesel vRS without thinking that it's a tyre-shredding beast (although it probably is more because of the torque!). It's a very good sportyish car where comfort and refinement hasn't been overlooked. If Skoda made an out-and-out rallye car, not sure a lot of vRS drivers would switch - they like the torque and comfort too much :P

If you wanted to have a project car and stick a 1.8T in it, it's a hard one because whilst the vRS has the hubs up front for bigger discs, etc, it has the diesel tank which needs swapping. If you start with a 1.x petrol, there'll be possibly less engin-related mechanical work, but more work on the body to beef it up.

Either way, it's not a cheap project :(

I'd personally like to see a Fabia with the new 1.4 SuperTurbo engine in. At the right price and with vRS type styling it should be excellent. A good amount of power and torque and light engine up front that would have a big positive effect on handling.

If skoda made a 3 door 1.8 (or 2l) turbo I would seriously consider it.

If I didn't do the mileage I did then yes with out a doubt I'd be interested in one, I've been bitten by the skoda bug now!

But, even though my car is tuned to xxxbhp it still will do 50+mpg where as a petrol would many get 40 on a good run.

My PD130 conversion was bad enough - not sure how you'd go about a decent 1.8T conversion with a Fabia? Maybe take a written off Cupra Ibiza and transplant 100% of the internals? It was bad enough with another diesel, with me having to 100% rewire and still not got it all sorted yet.

They do make one but they're mega bucks second hand and have a silly wing on the back.

I bought my Vrs because of what it was, a nicely put together sporty diesel hatch. Tuned to xxxbhp, still returns 50+ mpg on a run, and driven hard on the twisties, 25mpg +.

If my car was due for replacement, and a petrol turbo fabia was avaliable in the showroom, then I would seriously consider it. but it would have to impress me to make me buy it. a full wrc kit/decals and 250bhp would sway me

IIRC there's not actually that many people on here producing 210 BHP

But half a grand will see 170-180ish and that will still see a decent return in MPG

Apart from anything else, you'd need a bigger fuel tank. The little 45 litre thing needs filling too often even in my 1.4 16v.

Who says a 200bhp fabia vRS isnt so economical? if anything its MORE economical..

ive got circa 180-190bhp and reguarly get 70mpg on the trip to work, and usually average 55 over a tank.... and not to mention itll show remapped 1.8T cars a very hard time

What you get is a car that is real world quick & economy is still good. Remember that on TDis the turbo is only pumping air. How much fuel you use is still down to your right foot.

Insurance? Something tells me a lot are still officially 130bhp!

i would definately like to see the 1.4 TwinCharger engine in a new fabia vRS when it comes out. I think small diesel cars suffer from too much torque sometimes especially with a good remap. Look at the Ibiza PD160. Way too much engine for the chassis. A nice, light, powerful petrol would be great. Don`t get me wrong, i love my vRS but i may well have a petrol again for my next car.

The PD130 lump is heavy - that's one of the main problems with the Furby vRS. If the engine was less heavy the handling would be better, for sure.

150 isn't that much different, and 160 is due to FMIC - and as I have got the turbo and FMIC at the same time, I essentially do have a 150 at the moment. Will find out tomorrow.

I dont like seat`s. Sorry to all you seat owners on here. Shoe-horning stupidly powerful engines into a chassis that can`t cope doesn`t make a good car. Any power upgrade of a fabia should only be considered with suspension/brake mods. Seat should calm down and make a nice car first, and a fast one second.

I'd have definitely considered a petrol turbo Fabia instead of the diesel version, but both would have definitely got a fair crack of the whip. The TDI 130 is a nice engine, but a real enthusiast would undoubtedly, IMO, prefer a 1.8T. It makes more noise, the engine is lighter so better balanced, and the higher revviness makes for not only better handling too, but more excitement when really pressing on.

I'd have definitely bought a 3dr 1.8T over a 5dr 1.9 TDI... as I think apart from anything else, a 3 door car could have looked *lush*.

The diesels are best when driven in a relatively relaxed manner, which changes the whole dynamics of the car. Petrols, despite not quite having the same get up and go, are overall more fun to drive, and for me, the economy argument is overstated a bit too. I could only ever achieve 50+ when driving like a granny, in the Golf I can get 40, sometimes more on a run driving like a granny. It does 30 when thrashed, the Fabia did 36. Not that much difference in reality.

I kinda like the idea of being able to use the car in a relaxed manner, all the way to trashing it - but yeah, it's a diesel & it just ain't gonna have the rev range.

The Fabia vRS is a warm family hatch, that can be tuned up a fair bit. Must admit I do firmly agree with the idea that if you're gonna make it go faster, you also want it to slow down faster, and improve on the general handling first.

Based on the target market it kinda makes sense for Skoda NOT to offer a 3 door 1.8T, it wouldn't be a bad car to make in itself, but the branding kinda prevents it I suppose.
