scratch on the car

Featured Replies

hI, Guys,

Recently, i noticed there are some light scratches on my fabia car body. not deep but it feels bad when i see them. I wonder if i can use the polisher to remove those scratches? Is there any polishing fluid i should use also when i am polishing it?

the color of the body is silver.

BTW, i saw on ebay that there some scratch remove pen for selling, do you guys think those pens will help?

Thanks a lot.

take it to a painter and got the whole thing mopped down my way they charge £40-£60 but the finish is lovely if they are light scratches and u want to have a go get some T-cut

Noo not T-Cut, rotary polished rather than TCut which damages the paint

I use a DAS6 with Menzerna compounds and hex logic pads which works very well, whereabouts are you? The scratch pens do work to a point but depends on scratch depth, get some photos up in styling and car care section.

thanks lot guys, i will firstly try using the scratch pen. if it doesn't work then i will try out the das6 polisher.

If you can feel the scratch with your nail then generally it won't polish out without removing a lot of paint and a respray/tough up may be your best bet bet. If not then in order of abrasiveness, you might try something like Meguiars Scratch-x by hand, then an orbital polisher or lastly a rotary polisher (best left to someone who know's what they're doing, potential to burn through the paint).

You need to cut, so forget the pen. :)

Thanks man, I watched some videos on youtube, seems this T-cut thing works amazingly.

I will try some out then.

It's ultra aggressive though. Really be better using a better polish and taking more time. :)

Is it a metallic silver paint? I was always told to avoid T Cut on Metallic paints as it can 'dull' the area you treat.

As someone above mentioned, can you feel the scratch with your fingernail as you pass over it? If so, then it more than likely will not polish completely out, but a good polish may improve it and make it less noticeable.

As Devonutopia says..Dont use T-Cut...Its not suitable and you could end up with a worse problem

If it's a good enough part and the right price n all that, it's worth it. I

3M finesse it (correction its now called Perfect It TM) polish, and/or micron finishing pads, expensive but what they use in the car plants

(strangely good enough for the car manufacturers, as thats what they use to polish out marks before you get your new car funnily enough !)

Ahem......T-Cut is a laymans (non commercial) polish, akin to what chip shop curry sauce is to the tandoori quarter ! I wouldn't let that crap anywhere near my car. Might use it to polish brass or something perhaps. In fact I've smelt that stuff and it sure seems like Brasso to me.

Scratches can be removed by wet sanding but having not seen these, I cannot really comment how bad they are.  Recent ones I did came out well though.  Wet sand, compound, refine, seal.  Job done.

thanks guys, unfortunately, i can feel those scratches with my finger  . i will go for polishing with 3M perfect it wool pad first. BTW, i really hate those idiots who scratches my car. Don't know why they do this  . So stupid and childish.

To be blunt (and as others have said) if you can feel them with your finger nails then polishing them out is unlikely.... remember the scratch has cut through the laquer that covers the paint itself, to get out the scratch you have to go below its lowest point.... this could be down to the paint itself, which means you will burn through the Laquer. I would not bother and leave it to those who know what they are doing, you could make the problem worse.

I could feel the scratches on my pics above, but luckily had not broken through the whole clearcoat

Hi guys, first post here. My wife is a happy owner of a 2008 fabia estate but we bought it with many small superficial scratches arround door handles, so following Which magazine I bought T-CUT but I'm worry since I have read few people advising not to use it. my questions are: will T-cut damage or blur the paint? will oxidise? will I have to wax reguraly to keep away the haze or oxidation?(as mentioned on ChipsAway website) also is it better to mixed with polish http://forums.hexus.net/automotive/183873-would-i-use-t-cut-my-car-remove-area-light-scratches.html

or grease elbow? which adviced to use grease elbow before washing the car.

will  appreciate any comment.
