Scratch advice

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I seem to have acquired a few minor scratches on the paintwork at various points on my car and feel that the paint is quite easily scratched, any opinions on this?  Also, more importantly, how should I try to remove them?  I suppose T-Cut is the usually remedy but on brand-new (ish) paintwork I'm a little hesitant...   Any advice greatly received.  The pictures aren't the best, as the car had just been cleaned it's quite shiny so lots of reflections in the pics  :notme:  it's petrol blue in case you're not sure!

Cheers,

No no to Tcut!!!

I've used Sonax polish to good effect on my black S2 works wonders especially with a DA

I find turtle wax colour magic works wonders on scratches, I don't use the pen that it comes with but saying that, I have one of the original turtle wax colour magic (Light Blue Bottle) that they don't seem to sell that shade of blue-colour anymore!

I feel your pain thou fella, :( as when I got home yesterday from work, I found a scratch above the drivers side rear light & because of the angle it's on! You always get to see it but turtle wax colour magic blends/musks the scratch in well.

I managed to scuff the bumper of mine on a white painted barrier while trying to squeeze into a very tight space on a building site the other day - had been thinking about taking the white paint that's transferred onto my red car with T-Cut, but reading above is this a no no?  If so, what's the best way in taking the paint off?

Use Farecla G3 with their waffle pads, much more work than using a machine polisher but for not much cost you will get a good result, T cut is more abrasive than VIM,  (now called Ciff) it was OK on Lead paints many moons ago but on today's modern paints you would cut through the clear coat in no time both from Halfords, the waffle pads are good for applying wax too, but wash in washing machine if you have used polish on it   Colour magic only masks the scratch as would Poorboys Black Hole , so only a temporary fix till you wash it again

Thanks for the advice, will try one of the more subtle polish products as the scratches are quite fine and not deep at all, I think they have scored the clear coat only.

Another member has advised me to try https://www.chipsaway.co.uk

Have a look at the video on their website.  I'm waiting for a call back to arrange for an estimate.  I don't know how to link you to the other thread, but if you search for chipsaway, you'll find it.
