Columbus Map / Firmware Updates

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Our 2013 Yeti L&K (registered May 2013) has just come out of service this morning and one of the things I wanted doing was updating the Columbus maps and firmware to the latest version.

When we picked it up this afternoon, the dealer tells me that there isn't a further map update at the moment and that they'll notify us when there is one? I did check the software versions recently and this is what ours says:

H/W Version - H09

Firmware - 5238

Map Version - 7918

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the map version on our unit is from 2012 and if this is correct then I can't believe that Skoda haven't released updated maps since then?

Could someone shed any light on this and if I should pursue it further? On the basis that my dealer initially tried to tell me that the Columbus can't be updated at all, you can understand why I'm having a hard time believing what they're now telling me about there being no updates available.

Thanks for any responses.

There are newer maps, 7918 is V9 which is actually very old. The latest is V12 I believe, but its a chargeable upgrade since the maps are licensed software.

Part number I believe is 1T0 051 859 AH

Yeah map version 8195, V12 are the latest maps, your dealer is talking rubbish.

I suspected this might be the case, thanks guys. I'll get kicking some bums then as paid upgrade or not, I was promised this would be done!

My dealer is still insisting that only V9 maps are showing up on their system although they are now looking into where they might obtain the V12 maps from if they do supposedly exist.

I think the problem here is that whilst V12 maps obviously do exist, they might not necessarily have been released by Skoda. The only V12 maps I can find available are listed for the VW branded units, not Skoda. From this perspective, my dealer could technically be right in that V9 maps are the latest ones available from Skoda.

Unless someone can give me a Skoda specific part number that I can give to my dealer, I'm not sure I have much of an argument against them. I just can't believe that Skoda haven't officially released newer maps than V9?

Skoda part number is 3T0 051 859 AF for V12 Western Europe maps.

My disk will be up for sale this weekend...

Thanks, I'll give this to my dealer if they still swear there's no map updates available beyond V9. I have a voicemail from their automated system to ring them so we'll see how the conversation goes.

I'll be back with an update!

Still no update on your update?

Still no update on your update?

Sorry for the delay but I've been away for a few days.

Well it's good news, sort of. In the latest game of telephone tennis, my dealer has left me a message to acknowledge that there is indeed an updated disc available... but not from Skoda. They've said that they're ordering it in and will give me a call when they have it so that our car can be updated.

Having researched myself using both part codes supplied so far on this thread, the updated maps that are available do appear to be labelled VW and not specifically Skoda. This would appear to match what the dealer is telling me and that Skoda themselves haven't issued an update, therefore it isn't appearing on their parts system. Obviously a little bit of digging here goes a long way and that's what the parts manager has done.

I've no doubt I'll need to keep chasing this one but at least there's some progress being made.

Updated my 2010 superb to fw4120.... With Australia 90:5/5..

I cannot load navigation DVD (v1) I received with the vehicle.

I tried a v7 version however it also doesn't work.

I have a VW and tried discs so they work.

Just keeps saying to insert Maps dvd

Any tips/direction would be great.

If your firmware is partitioning 90/5/5 that equates to 90% for music, 5% for POI's and another 5% for map data.

You simy don't have room in either the 30 or 40 GB HDD in the Columbus.

Which VW discs work? Maps?

Which don't work? Skoda?

Aren't the aus/nz maps much smaller in size?

Is dpicc in Australia?

I dont know but assumed so because of the firmware choice, disk version numbers and time of posting.

AUS maps are less than 1Gb on the ISO image so the maps partition could be okay (not certain though), but it sounds more like another failed firmware update.

Further update folks.

The long and short of it is my dealer is now refusing to spend £200 on a navigation disc, end of. I'm not a happy bunny as my salesman did promise that the maps would be updated at service time but unfortunately for me I didn't get this down in writing at the time of sale. It does complicate things a little that I bought our car from a different branch to where it gets serviced, however, both branches are part of the same well-known dealership in Yorkshire.

I've suggested that the service manager, who I know reasonably well from dealing with him for over 10 years contacts my salesman to get clarification on what was promised but I can take a good guess at how that conversation is going to go, if the phone call is even made. I see no point in even contacting the salesman myself as the conversation will only go the same way and to be perfectly honest, I haven't got the time to be taking them to task over a verbal promise that I can't prove.

I have in the meantime had a very kind offer from a fellow Briskodian which may mean I can update the maps. I'm not sure if the firmware is updated at the same time or if this is a separate process?

This isn't Sytner by any chance is it?

This isn't Sytner by any chance is it?

Who? If you mean the dealer name then no, it's not Sytner.

That's good to know. My mate's the service manager at Leeds VW.

Oh, and the firmware is fine at 5238, nothing to be gained by trying to update that (other than possibly causing problems which would not be covered under warranty).

And they wonder why people resort to the likes of eBay for FW disks and map update disks!

People only "resort" to stealing copies of map updates becasue they are too cheap to actually pay for them.

There is nothing to say you will be entitled to free updates when you buy a Columbus and it's not difficult to actually buy the latest version of the maps.

It's just plenty of people feel the world owes them a living and they don't want to spend cash.

Now if these same people instead of going for the Columbus went for a Tom Tom with lifetime updates then everything would be well - bit alas no, they want the best of all worlds and if they can do that without paying then that is the option they take.

Certainly not VW/Skoda's fault that people are stealing stuff - they provide the legitimate ways to get these items.
