Hello, long time lurker here - my first post I think!

 

 

 

I wondered if anyone knew if the gearboxes from different 1.2 VW engines were interchangable?

 

Currently got a 55bhp 1.2 which has a very short 5th gear which results in nearly 4000rpm at 70mph.

 

A friends 1.2 65bhp sits below 3500rpm at the same speed. 

 

So would a 65bhp gearbox fit staight onto a 55bhp engine? Obviously, accelaration will be slower but I'm willing to sacrifice this for more refined cruising.

Should be a straight swap, I think.
