Canton :: Location of speakers.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

pulling the trigger on a TSI vRS hatch (RS here), and have a question about the Canton system I can't seem to find an answer for neither in the manual/catalogue nor browsing the forums here.

Namely, the brochures say that Canton comes with 10 speakers (out of which, 1 center and 1 subwoofer).

But in all the pictures I could find - I could only see the tweeters mounted in the front door (branded Canton) and the subwoofer in the trunk.

Would anyone here be able to provide photos or more exact information on where the rest of the speakers are? Are they also branded like the tweeters and the sub?

Thanks.

Thanks - I saw that thread - but I am even more confused.

1. The image of the speakers outside of the car actually shows 8 speakers (with the center and sub) and not 10 like the brochure claims.

2. I was hoping for some actual photos of the locations of the speakers inside the car?

I would have thought Skoda would advertise it with more than a photo of a branded tweeter.

There is an image there with 10 speakers , 2 in each door  one centre and one sub = 10

The picture you need is the one in post number 8 of that thread, the picture in the middle is of the canton.

Thanks all, saw the image titled Octavia II and thought it outdated. Much appreciated, especially on a Sunday evening! :)

Anyone perchance has a photo of one of the doors showing the location of the speakers

Thankfully they've moved the speakers to the front of the door as opposed to the MK 2 where they fired at your hip.  I struggled like mad in my MK2 VRS to get  decent sound and upgraded everything to Alpine with time alignment to get somewhere near.

Locations as per the standard setup (so 8 speakers, 4 tweeters, 4 mids) 1 of each on each of the doors. Some suggestion that the actual woofers and tweeters are upgraded over the standard ones but I cant confirm if that is true (disappointing if not).

On top of the standard there is a 1 way small diameter (probably 3.5") centre fill speaker then in the boot you have the Canton sub. I believe the sub itself is passive and powered by a dedicated channel on the canton amp. The driver I believe is a single 6.5" bass driver.

The amp itself powers all the speakers on their own channels, is 570w total output and I believe is connected by fibre to the main infotainment unit. It is I believe under the passenger seat.

This is the picture referred to in the other thread. However, it's marked as Octavia 2 not Octavia 3

When swmbo returns with the car in an hour or so I'll post some pics of the doors to show speaker positions - I have canton so will post pic of sub, centre and amp too if you like?

Does the VBF interfere with the bass from the sub ?

Funny the differences in the Octi & the Golf...............

We don't get the centre dash.............& the amp has a plain non vented cover........................front tweeters in "A" pillar & rear tweeters in middle of door.

However we get a big subwoofer which sits inside the spare wheel............

Do you know how big?  I think I feel a potential upgrade coming on!!

Is the third option, the 'Skoda Sound System' supposed to be even better again? I'd be surprised given that it's not even branded.

No this was the upgrade system offered in the Mk2, though I dont think the UK market ever got offered it in facelift form.

Technically its not as superior as the Canton as it has less wattage, no centre fill or dedicated sub though does still have ten speakers though these are tweeter, mid and bass speakers in each door.

Though in fairness the 8 speaker system in the Mk2 was great, Id envisage the 10 speaker set up was a bit better still.

I have the 18" space saver from a golf in mine!

Just the sub & cabling to the rear then .................also a longer spindle (127mm VW description length) to go through them both.......................

If I fit an after market sub in the boot, where do you pick up the signal from?

Or is it just a matter of using the existing cabling (power and music signal) from the Canton sub to power up a new sub.

I have ordered the Canton upgrade on my options list, but by the sounds of it even with the added sub it's still a little under par.

I have kept the 10" JBL sub and enclosure (1000 watt) that was in my Mk1 VRS, and would like to use it in the new car (not worried about taking up space), I know the factory amp won't let the sub work to it's full potential but it's got to be better than a little 6.5" speaker stuffed in one corner of the boot.

Sorry what am I talking about!! O2 premium system was 12 speaker not 10.

I think the Canton sub is driven by an independant 100w channel on the underseat amp.

Amp under front passenger seat (seat moved back) - apologies for the mess!

Does the amp under the passangers seat mean you loose the storage box under the seat?

Resurrecting this thread to ask a quick question on the centre speaker panel on the dashboard. For those who do not have the Canton system (such as myself), is the centre speaker panel empty?

Yes, only 4 speakers / 4 tweeters with the standard system, all in the doors.

Okay, so the centre panel is left empty in case of an upgrade. I'm a little underwhelmed by the shallow and difficult-to-optimise standard system, just putting up with it until it's been broken in a little more to decide on whether to upgrade or not.
